Are Nigerians Really This Bad , That Other African Countries Want Us Out?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7462973.stm

This whole issue of other countries wanting us out is just a shame. I don't know what will happen to us in 10 years if some drastic wind of change does not come along soon.

@ Kobojunkie i don't see why you need to attack ifygurl, your attack is so uncalled for, she was only trying to prove that not all Nigerians are drug dealers or fraudulent. If you can list so much problems in Nigeria what solutions have you offered? What have you done to make Nigeria a better place? I am so sick and tired of reading about so many Nigerians that complain that Politicians do this, a yahoo boy did that but they actually sit, watch and do nothing. Some of them keep saying 'God help us' God will not come down and help us.

So Kobojunkie, don't be a bully on the forum rather try and offer solutions, try and also paint a better image of Nigeria instead of posting trash on the internet, do you know how many foreigners get to read posts like this on Nairaland?

Naija forever!

After reading your last post I have to say that You are a complete fool without reservations. You insulted justcool and just for the sake of peace he apologised(eventhough he did noting wrong), and you have the guts to reply and talk complete nonsense. It is people like you that give Nigeria a bad name. You cant even behave responsibly even in a forum. I am sure that you exhibit the same behaviour wherever you are and that why you don't have problem with people calling Nigerians scammers. You are a scammer.

You call yourself a junkie and still open your mouth about people being bad.

You are a complete liar, and a junky.

You are very silly. I doubt your level of education. Look at the English you write!

You call somebody, "another dishonest Nigerian." What has Nigeria got to do with me being dishonest. Read my posts and yours and lets see who is dishonest.

the thing with Nigerians living abroad is that they are so eager for quick money that they result to doing anything to make it so - in my travels abroad - I have seen loads of Nigerians in the UK/America riding the kind of cars that even oyinbos will bow say meen this one get pay - but look for their records - they dont have correct papers to live there - they make the loudest noise, they attend the loudest parties, the throw money around - so - why wont the peaceful countries want them out?

The other day I went to ghana, and a ghanian told me - there are no thieves here o - except Nigerians - oh men - can u beat that? The same in south Africa - they say - Nigerians are the thieves here - same in the Uk and in America - check the prisoners in London alone - you will see that Naija men/women na im full there pass - I don tire.

Why we no go just relax and take things easy whenever we travel abroad? This one get nothing to do with bad leadership or bad country - na our long throat dey kill us.

Please read my post very well before you reply. I was not criticising the government. I said "ask what you can do for the government and not what the government can do for you"

Don't you understand this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said, "IF the government is bad" I did not say that the government is bad.

I never said that the problem is the government alone. I inferred that the problem is lack of patriotism of the people. After all, it is the people that make up the government. The government is not made up of machines or foreigners but the people of Nigerian.

Please re-read my post!!

One thing I have observed from living in America is that:

A rich and educated Nigerian, once he gets to America. He will soon learn to let go of his pride. He might start by doing any job. Even washing plates, he will gladly do it and he will work very hard and soon gets a better and more prestigious job. Even while doing a prestigious job in America, he will be very humble, he will wash his car if he has time rather than paying for it to be washed, He will cut his lawn, he will wash his cloths, he might even go to the kitchen and help his wife in cleaning the kitchen and washing plates. But the moment he arrives at Nigeria, he will become proud again. He might pay big money to lodge in a Hotel even if his fathers house is batter than his house in America. He will tell you that he is too big to live in his fathers house with his relatives who probably starved to send him to America. He will adopt a fake accent and condemn everything Nigerian. He will never wash, and clean, rather he will pay people to wash his cloths. He will rather starve to death than do a lowly job.

If in Nigeria we Nigerians will work as hard as we work in America, then Nigeria will soon become like America. But the problem is that we want people in Nigeria to think that we are in America are living in heaven. Therefore we criticise everything about Nigeria, we act like we are gods when we go back to Nigeria.

Americans are happy because they work hard for their country. No job is a lowly job in America. You can see a professor working security as a second Job rather than sitting down and blaming the government for not paying him enough. Most Americans stop providing for their kids once the kid become 18 years old. The child has to move out, find a job and carter for himself. Even if his job is to sweep the street, his girlfriend will be happy that her man has a job. But in Nigeria nobody will date a man with a lowly job. We all want to become lawyers, doctors, and big men and go to America. But if we all become big, who will clean the streets?

Please lets do our best for our country. God gave us a beautiful country, every problem that Nigeria has was caused by us(including you kobojunkie). Lets be proud of Nigeria and build it up.

We Nigerians abroad have a lot of responsibility. We should encourage Nigerians at home and be honest about abroad. The good things we see abroad, we should try to implement it in Nigeria. We should respect Nigerians at home and not treat them like leapers.

To Nigerians at home. You should be proud of yourselves and don't let anybody intimidate you. There is no heaven on earth. Believe me, Nigeria is a beautiful country.

@Ifygurl ,

To show you that I do not think or reason as you do. I will give you a chance to show me where speaking of Nigeria should automatically turn to comparing Nigeria with America?

Maybe you should now strive to learn how to argue with adults and learn to accept that the world is not just about you and how you and only you choose to percieve things.

I guess this proves I was right about the part of the emotional issues I alluded to earlier. Put sentiments aside ,and you might actually make a point.

You insult me when you Make up stories about other people, all based on your delusions and think you are making some wonderful points. By the way, could you point to where I specifically stated that

a) ALL NIGERIANS ARE INTO 419 OR are criminals??

b) You mean songs like Yahoozee and the likes that glorify crime and criminals are all figments of my imagination??

c) You mean the fact that our people get paid to vote one way and not the other, all made up by moi??

d) Should we continue then to say because america has problems means we ought to be happy in mediocrity?? is this part of what you learnt in school??

The above quote is from a 17-year old on here. Is this what Nigeria is about or should be about?? Do we score points by throwing another country under the bus each time someone asks us about our own country?? Did the @Poster ask about America and what Nigerians thought of them or about Nigerians and what Nigerians thought of the situation with Nigeria?? I mean how did America come into this when this thread is about Nigerians and the way the way they are seen by other africans. Does injecting America into most every other thread help you sleep better or score more ego points of some sort?? I mean what is this anti-west push on most all threads really for?? Don't you think this tells more of your character than it does those you choose to attack for not sharing the same views as you do?

Nigerians go to the market expecting to be cheated. We watch closely as the rice seller measures each cup of rice, or as the butcher cuts up wach portion of meat.

Why?

It's simply because we've heard enough stories about these people and their fraudulent behaviour that we simply do not trust them to default to honesty.

The above example underlines the hypocrisy in us today. Many Nigerians are distrusted around the world because of the activities of some bad eggs. The 419ers, the touts, the hooligans. . .name 'em all. Yet we're here claiming this same distrust stems from 'jealously' and 'envy'.

Stereotypes like these can only be vanquished by a conscious effort at image laundering. But so far we lack the willpower to take this bold step. In every article discussion 419 on Nairaland, more than 50% of the respondents are expressing tacit support for 419 and online fraud. That's a bad sign.

It's not a good tactic to say that 'Nigerians aren't the only ones involved in online fraud'. That may be true, but we've become the poster child of 419, the face behind online crime. We've gotten into this mess and now we've got to dig ourselves out.

Turkey fans and Liverpool fans aren't the only group of football fans that are wont to be violent. Tell that to the police that trot out whenever Turkey plays any match in Europe. You may not be the only ones doing the bad deeds, but once you're the face behind the stereotype. . .

Kobojunkie

Don't even start with me okay. So yes, maybe I'm not as educated as you.  Maybe the reason i have discussion like this is because i just got out of high school and that's how we argued in my debate class. Don't you dare insult me because of what i said. Half of the poo i said came from my fathers mouth(who watches the news almost everyday and he just came back from Nigeria few months ago.). Secondly, i actually read up on what's going on in that country, i have family members who still lives in that country that will tells me everything that goes on in that country. I maynot be as educated as you are(i suppose cause i don't know who you, i don't know if you smarter than me or not). But one thing i do know, is i know more information about what's going in the world than you'll ever know.

And i don't know why you said that i insulted you, if i did that wasn't my intention. I don't know is it because i said you are a man(aren't you a man?) or maybe because i said you kiss American asses(Well excuse me, half of your quotes, you acted like that.)

Well,  how about this,  keep your delusions and leave me to mine. I prefer to debate people who are able to think and reason like  mature humans; people who are able to state their side of the case rationally, open to others not really having to be forced to see things as they do. Not people who resort to insulting every tom, 'Dick and harry, who does not necessarily agree with them, assuming they have them all figured out. If you do not understand that that actually points to emotional issues then, again, I suggest you leave me to my delusions while you keep yours. Is that fine with you?? I choose to move on now!! Good luck with your life and reasoning!!

I can already tell, you got to be a man especially an african man cause you sure as hell sounds like you have a big ego.

Crime rate in SA is far higher than what is obtainable in Nigeria but do you see a reflection of that in the media?

As a Nigerian which is your country, you, you, and me have the fundamental responbilities to involve in the nation building,

this people got so much zeal to talk down on nigeria but still provide no solution. they know deep inside they got  nothing to offer to nigeria. Some have done justice to themselves to denouced nigeria as their country  but one wonder what they are doing in here. stop throwing other countries under the bus.

For those who worship American government, Please click on this link:

www.fa-ir.org/90.htm

I am not saying that American is evil and I am not saying that all Nigerians are good. What I am saying is that in all contries there are good and bad people. Nigeria is not an exception, there are good and honest Nigerians one of which I am.

What bugs me is why people view everybody from Nigeria as evil. Even Nigerians themself perpetuate this lie. But anybody who knows psychology will know that for somebody to say that all his country men are dishonest, this shows that that person too is dishonest.

If you consider yourself honest and you are a Nigerian, dosen't this prove that not all Nigerians are dishonest?

we the good Nigerians should not let the bad ones ruin our reputation. If people say such things( that Nigerians are dishonest) tell them that it is a lie and prove them wrong by your words and actions.

Become an exemplary Nigerian. This is the way to uplift your country.

Nigeria is a great country and not all Nigerians are dishonest.

There is a street called "Town street." in LA. There is a part of this street near down town LA where majority live in the street under conditions far worst than you will ever see in Nigeria. A street filled with the sick, drug addicts, transsexuals, and prostitutes. I have never seen that street in TV. when they America on CNN, the always show the good parts.

In America, everyday we are bombarded with junk mails and phone calls from tele-marketers, most of which are scams.

Sometimes the computer(an automated system) will call and say things like: "Do you know that the your vehicle's insurance is about to run out? Do you know how close you are to a heart attack?" These are all lies, just a way to get your attention. Sometimes auto dealers will send you a fake gift certificate so that you can go to their shop and get triked into buying a car. If you live in America you must have experienced this over and over. Are these not scams or 419?

What about identity theft? What about illegal immigration from Mexico and south America. I guess it's okay as long as you're not a Nigerian.

Since they are Americans, everybody usually hangs the call and forget it. But if they are from Nigeria, then we label all Nigerians as scamers.

When it comes to 419, Nigeria is no where close to America!

0
Avatar
Newbie

I don't condon 419.  It is wrong and very bad.

But Nigeria definitely does not deserve the bad publicity it gets. The problems is that so many Nigerians have no national pride and will blame everything on Nigeria. A co worker once said something bad about Nigeria in my presence and I got very upset and told him to go to hell. Later he came and apologised and told me that I am the only Nigerian that defends Nigeria. He told me that he used to work with many Nigerians that have nothing good to say about Nigeria.

@Kobojunkie

I have a question for you:

1) Tell me in any field of crime where a Nigerian is among the first 10 most wanted. ( Research CIA records)

2) have you ever heard of drug dealers like Pablo Escobar and many others from south America? How many of such killers has Nigeria produced? Why don't Colombians receive a bad reputation like Nigeria?

3) How many alpercinos has Nigeria produced? How many mafia organisations has Nigeria produced?

4) Have you heard of the way some American troops treated Iraqis? Is that America's fault? if not then why blame Nigeria for the bad behaviour of some her citizens in another country.  Why don't America receive as much a bad reputation as Nigeria?

Africa should be grateful to Nigeria for sending their troops in troubled contries, but rather than that they talk of illegal immigration.

The Truth is that Nigerian is a black nation with the potential of being better than the western countries one day. hence, all these hatred for Nigeria and her citizens.

The major obstacle that Nigeria has is the citizens who have been brainwashed to considering everything Nigeria as inferior, evil and bad. this is a result of colonization. Some Nigerians think that the way to be civilized is to talk bad about Nigeria and worship white countries.

Nigeria is not yet 100 years yet. Research into American history and you will find out that when they were as young as Nigeria, they were no way close to what Nigeria is today. I have lived in America for nine years and I have seen that most of the things they say about America when I was in Nigeria are lies.

Watch CNN when they show America, they will show the best parts. But when they show Africa, they will show the worst parts.

Nigeria is a great country, and Nigerians are not bad people.

The problem is that we celebrate criminals. Why is it that we cant ALL, as a society, frown upon these acts and start making perpetrators feel leprous within the society? Because too many of us are actually in support of crime as long as it provides us with pecuniary benefits.

Nigerians are not alone in this. It's human nature more often than not but our economy makes ours more pronounced because we have more desperate people.
