The prices for a billboard really depend on two things: the size of it and the location. Prime locations (high in foot and car traffic) are more expensive one (naturally). The larger it is, the more you pay. That is the second rule of a thumb. A smaller ad may cost you up to half a million naira per year, while the largest one may cost over 9 million naira to erect and print out.

Wow, I agree that the lack of price control in messing up the business scene in Nigeria. Businesses are leaing the country to GREENER Ghana, Wonder what needs to happen for Nigeria to have a 'wake up call'

Hi People,

A bike man was yesterday crushed by the gantry of a signage which was being erected by Alt Media Outdoor Advertising Agency. The man later died but his passenger was saved. There was no traffic control on that road (Kudirat Abiola rd., Oregun). Now, I hear the owner of Altmedia is the Makanjuola Alabi, who is also the MD of LASAA, the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency. DOes anybody know if this is true? If it is, isn't there clash of interest here? Now who holds the company accountable.

The bike man had two wives and four children who are in Sokoto.

Please lets not deviate from the topic.

The Outdoor advertising agencies of Nigeria (OAAN) have standard rates for each state. Unipole Spectacular billboard, like the ones around Third Mainland bridge and Ikoyi (they are the ones that are big with one thickleg) is 9 million naira per year. There are other rates for other boards. The reason for the increase in price from 5 million last year to 9 million is to regulate the industry and discourage the indiscriminate use of boards everywhere and to sanitise the environment. So, its only the big players like Glo, Celtel, Mtn, Coke, e.t.c that can afford such.

The medium scale industries can advertise on smaller and less reachable boards like the Backlit, 48 sheet, e.t.c. and don't forget that it all depends on the company's target audience for them to know whether its advisable to advertise in newspapers, t.v./radio, satationeries, t-shirts, caps, biros, buckets, e.t.c.

but wait o, last time i checked N1 was like 1000 cedes. how did ghana get their currency equal to the dollar? or did they recalibrate like soludo wanted to do ?

@Ialwaysask, thanks for that info. TFL(Transport For London), mini-buses, London Underground, London Buses, Stage Coach, London Central, ARRIVA, BBC, Newspaper, direct marketing (Which is proving more successful these days), telephone marketing, email marketing (The best and most market penetrating solution, 419 take note), etc are all less that £600 per week/month/year.

Billboard, is not the only way. Follow my link and see how much to advertise in central London, remember central London Billboard is controlled by computer. It could have 100,000 adverts running at a time because it is synchronized by software 100,000 * 600 tell us how much you think they make?

now i can see that most of the people we have here are just normal working class people(salary earner), we need real investors and business men to tell people whatz going on, How can someone complain of 9million naira for an advert.

9 million is too cheap for a standard billboard advert, some companies budgeted more than 600million naira for advert in 1 year,

The last beach party that was organised at lekki cost over 500 million naira, so tell me, that is just a one day show,

you better shine your eyes and see where money lies,

I think most of the people making post are not familiar with outdoor advertising. I work in an ad agency n i can tell u N9 million isn't to much for a billboard. I've seen clients pay all sorts for billboards depending on the site and location (I'm talkin abt N90 million for one billboard).

I said N9m for a unipole spectacular and most of you thing am lying.

well am in the industry and i know what am saying.

you can get a board for N430,000 per year depending on the size.

Unipole is the biggest billboard you will see outside. Before now unipole is about 2.5M to 5m in lagos

depending on the quality of board. But since LASAA steoed in, it has increase to about (9M)

for your information 4m of that money goes to lasaa. while 5m is for the agency.

Am not trying to be controversial, but if it was less than 1million, dont you think there would be more than 1,000 naija guys that can afford to propose comfortably to their wives with a billboard.

Its a control measure as well.

depending on what you want and the quality of service.
