Tommy Ford`s early life
The future prominent actor was born on June 15, 1964, in New York. However, his childhood the boy spent in California. His father was a pipe-fitter, and mother worked as school secretary. When he was a kid, Tommy had a great desire to become a preacher. However, after he had taken first drama lessons and began to act in high school plays, he definitely made up his mind to become an outstanding actor. His idols were such great actors as Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Marlon Brando.
In 1985, Tommy Ford received Associate of Arts degree in Long Beach City College. After it he moved to University of Southern California. He graduated earning the degree of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in acting.
Tommy Ford immediately liked his character in “Martin”. Tommy Strawn always was the straight man for Martin Lawrence's jokes. However, he often placed in some scene-stealing "bald-headed logic" and amusing comments in various strange situations. In 1996, Ford got an NAACP Image Award in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

After “Martin” was finished, Ford succeeded in the detective drama “New York Undercover”. After it he became extremely popular. Many famous TV directors started inviting him to own projects.
In 1993, Ford produced and directed own play titled “South of Where We Live”. It depicted the story of six African-American professionals who came back to their communities where they were raised and learnt about various existing social problems. In 1993, together with actor Troy Curvey and songster Yolanda Adams, Tommy Ford co-hosted the Texas Gospel Music Award.
