Are You Proud To Be A Nigerian?

I've lived in N.Y now for about 5years and it saddens me.

My first year here in highschool was a bit rocky.Didn't want to be here so I was really hostile to people around me. I finally, one day heard them pronounce the name of a Nigerian. I'm so excited because I've been surrounded by people of the carribean who of course bond because of where they're from. I'll never forget her, her name was Njidekah Olisah.

Well anyway,I go up to her and i'm introducing myself. I asked her if she was Nigerian. You know what this girl said?

"My mum's nigerian, but my dad is jamaican, so I'm jamaican" which kain jamaican with the name njideka olisah? i was outraged. I just looked at her and said okay and left with utter disgust.

I must admit, she's not the first one, who has done it. The line. "My parents are but I'm not" When you're Bottom knows that you were born in isolo somewhere. I have another friend whose mother is south african and her father is from Rivers, she'll tell you she's South-African and not bat an eyelid. I see it everyday and it's sad.

What do you guys think?

Well since we are in theme, let me also tell you that you rather look hopeless to me. Proud of a hopeless nation also makes you hopeless!

Why do you think I come to this board? cause I love Nigeria so much!!! I've been bashed of not being a patriotic Canadian  cause I wear 9ja4life  T-shirts. I always tell them: I was born and raised in Nigeria I moved to Canada when I was 19 and now that  I'm 23 and Canadian, I should just forget about 22 years of my life? cause I was Nigerian until I turned 23. Even my Jamaican friends are learning pijin English. You have to lift Nigeria before anyone can help lift it. I make my girl laugh in pijin so much, I get a french kiss after the jokes. I just hope the separatists don't succeed cause the name Naija is the best ever said.  Where you want de proud of? America? even white South Africans are quick to say I'm African when I meet them in Toronto. Why are black girls quick to say they are Jamaicans? even Jamaicans generally refer to themselves as Africans.

It's not easy being Nigerian now. People act like you're on probation for being Nigerian. And you experience a few things that sadden and anger you. But I don't have to 'prove' myself 'untainted' by Nigerianness to anyone. I like who I am and where I'm from. You have problems with that, too bad.

we are who we are, non of us chose to be from a place, faith did. I don`t have to be proud of being Nigerian, but it helps ones self esteem to be confortable with your heritage and not be in denial. I am Nigerian and that is me, though I was born in England.

There you go ranting rubbish and proud of it! Cursing on the internet, and wishing you were from another country that they will never accept you. How come you listed only 6 defects not to be proud of? Why did you not add more? Tell me there is nothing to be proud of about Nigeria?

It took me more than a year to see this reply but it's never too late to tell you you are an with capital I! Look at this product of a licking condom. Na who send you come internet? Mistake of nature.

Fool. Be proud of a country where you have to lift your skirt to every man to get where you want.

Be proud of a country where they justify cruel acts in the name of culture.

Be proud of a country where they'd rather push the truth under the carpet to save the face of the rich.

Be proud of a country that doesn't give a damn about you and could care less if you lived of died.

Be proud, be proud. Be proud of being born into the pit of humanity.

Nonsense!

Am proud to be a Nigerian. Few days ago a man walked up to me and asked if i was a Nigerian, i told him i was and he said he was a Ghanaian and yet he has the Yoruba(Ibadan) tribal marks and said hello in Yoruba.I was  really pissed off,   wanted to tell him to f,  off but hes old enough to be my father. Why in Gods name is he lieing. I don't know if Yoruba is spoken in Ghana now. Guessed he probably said so cause hes with is white girlfriend and Nigerians have a bad reputation here. Come rain come sunshine NAIJA ROCKS

1 of the best thing that eer happened 2 me, was being born a Nigerian.

last week ma mom was traelin 2 9ja n i almost hid in her breifcase.

1 of the reasons wjile i go throuh evry day happily is the thought that in 2 yrs i will be back in ma mother country.

i love Nigeria, n ya i am proud 2 be naija.

@HOT-ANGEL

i met this silly guy ( half nigerian ( father) half colombian or smth( mother) n he was born in london)

i was like "hae u ever been 2 9ja" n he said he wasnt nigerian that he was from london.

i live in portugal speak portuguese fluentlty n i still consider myself 100 percent nigerian. evry body that knows me knows where i am from.

The one that disgust me more is are the nigerians that just arrived in the western world and within 2 years, they will tell you they cant speak their own language any longer, cos now they feel like butter, total nonesense, there was this silly yoruba lady from Ondo, that has only been in canada for 2 years and she started lying that she no understand yoruba any longer, and a ghana guy has to be translating a nija (yoruba) movie to this lady, till one day the guy evesdrop on her speaking not just yoruba, but her Ondo language on da fone, the guy was crushed, so sad that some nigerians will got o any lenght for acceptance in another man's land, this is why even chinese wanna use nija as slave in nigeria
