Gun Salute: Should It Be Abolished?.

I know that when we talk of communication or message, it is telephone, letter writing, e-mail, gong in terms of town crying, whistle, cymbal etc. These various ways mentioned are all communication signals between one person and the other. Gun salute purely falls in with any of these signals. However, there have been talk of abolishing it in Igboland or in Nigeria generally. Should it be abolished?.

Gun salute are also used to honour fallen heroes. Recently, we all saw Dim Ojukwu's burial and the 21 gun salute from the Nigerian army to bid him farewell.

Apart from Igboland, other societies such as The U.K, gun salutes are used to welcome important dignatories at Windsor castle. Throught the world, a knockout, which is fireworks, is used to compliment feasts like christmas, new year etc.

Gun salutes are good. I remember, in the first hour of transition from 2009 to 2010, in my part of London residence, over 1000 fireworks were blown to usher in the new year. Hence in Igboland, it should be encouraged.

No reasonable Igbo speaking states can do without salute guns.

I don't think it's a problem or risk to life. It's a culture in Nigeria, so I feel it shouldn't be discontinued.

In Nigeria, gun salute is widely accepted both in the villages and towns, the military etc. Gun shooting makes a lot of noise especially Nkpo ala or nkponala. Should we condemn or stop gun salutes or reduce its frequency?.
