It's something I will never understand. We have allowed ourselves to be conditioned into believing that Eurocentric beauty is the best, so we do any and everything to emulate that. Skin bleach, straight hair weaves... It's a travesty. Trust and believe that alot of Europeans wish they had skin like ours. When I'm 50 years old, I will look as if I'm only 30 on the other hand, when they are 50 years old, they will like every bit of 60+. I thank God for our beautiful skin. [b][quote author=Obalufon]

I'm glad you embrace your color and race ,you're truly daughter of the sun. Don;t blame your boyfriend, he has been raised up to detest his own skin,to him being black is ugly.

I'm a lightskinned american girl, and my boyfriend is an igbo. He hates when I go in the sun to become darker. I always wondered why he would get so upset. Seems like colourism is rampant throughout the African Diaspora... Such a shame because to me, no matter what shade we are, we are some of the most beautiful people our Father God placed on this earth. We need to appreciate our unique beauty and embrace it instead of embracing that which is eurocentric. I LOVE my black people! No matter what shade.

Did you not notice the person that started this thread was Yoruba or that predominately of the repliees are Yoruba? Most Igbo did not reply and many aren't interested. Deal with your problem and stop mentioning Igbo everywhere.

INFERIORITY COMPLEX .GORILLA WILL NEVER BE A POLAR BEAR .YOU EASTERN NIGERIA IBO WANT TO BE WHITE BY ALL MEANS. I'M YORUBA WE COME IN DIFFERENT SHAPES OF BROWN ,MY GRAND PARENTS WERE EXTREMELY LIGHT SKINNED WITH NICE CRANIAL FEATURES. I'm brown skinned man ,which I'm proud of ,it glisters well with the Sun.Nothing like black skin, the earth comes in different shapes of brown ,Black symbolize Life, White symbolize death ."HUMAN", HU-MAN means man of color, THE MORE DARKER YOU ARE THE MORE AFFINITY YOU ARE WITH THE EARTH AND SUN .BLACK SKIN IS IN AFFINITY WITH THE SUN.

Light skin is lack of vitamin. The dark skin is more healthy than light skin

i think most people are confusing the thread with the numerous light skin vs dark skin ones.

that's erroneous.

the poster simply asked a question about something she was curious about (and maybe was bothering her).

numerous people gave her answers, and the story ended there.

anyone looking for merry go round threads involving light vs dark skin, should go to tribalism section where we have are light skin girls better than dark skin girls, do men prefer light skin girls over dark skin girls, are light skin men more virile thsn dark skin men, do dark skin men have more girlfriends than light skin men, are white women better than black women, do black men prefer non-black women, do nigerian men hate nigerian women, do yoruba men prefer non-yoruba women, do yoruba men badmouth yoruba women, etc etc.

I hate it when Africans place priority on skin color. Lack of melanin is rather a disadvantage.

doesnt speak well of you.

if you can access a computer, then one would assume you were exposed to some element of civilization.

It is rare. I've never meet a lightskin Yoruba that wasn't bleached. Awhile ago, I used to think the lightest a Yoruba can get is medium brown but I've learned otherwise

Skin color stuff is mainly an issue for women, I think thats why it was "Yoruba girl" instead of "yoruba people." Also makes sense why Tpia is always on any thread about race and skin color. A lot of black girls seem to have a complex about skin color especially those who live in America. The ones in Europe are more confident.

Man US is a facked up country man full of facked up peopl. Thanks od I grew up in Nigeria so I did not incorporate the facked upness of black people in US. Bleep

I'm yoruba I'm dark shiny black and my sister is light skin black . I don't see no difference coz black is black. even in europe white ladies find dark skin black man attractive than light black. My white british partner told me once d more u are dark d more u are sexy.

My sisters are very light-skinned, also my mother while i think am brown though people still say am fair though. Its not an issue we worry about, our last born is very dark he took after my dad anyway.

Well in my immediate family my parents, siblings and me are brown skinned but when it comes to my extended family members in both my mother and fathers side their are different shades; I have light skinned, brown skinned, and dark skinned relatives, Non of them are bleaching or mixed. So Light skinned Yoruba females do exist.

Not very many to see. But when you do see one, they are usually not short of models. Pretty and quite tall.(most, that is)

everyone from my mom's family is light skinned and not the bleach kind,  the real stuff plus they are super pretty. i dont think its rare seeing as almost everyone around me was yoruba nd lightskinned including my sibs. i dont give much thought to it, its just skin color.

i guess its just one of those things. i reckon some black people just have a light-skinned trait like white people may have a blonde hair trait.

ahh. well my mum comes from lagos and i think there may be a few light ones there, but when i went there i really only knew of 1 woman who was naturally light. the others seemed to be bleaching. my aunt bleached like hell too-although she was light to begin with. she just wanted to be whiter and spoil her skin. but i went to my stepdads hometown, ibadan, and did not see a single caramel or lighter skinned person there. twas weird to me,

all you had to do was state that you were joking and that i misunderstood. i don't see the point in calling me a 'dork' and some random woman a 'wannabe'

@tpia- of you're talking to me then its not the west i am talking about. i just haven't seen many yoruba girls with my color
