NAPEP is an acronym that stands for the national poverty eradication programme, established in 2001 BY THE Obansajo's regime to combat poverty and raise the living standard of Nigerians. it was designed to replace PAP, which initially carried out the duty of combating poverty and other related issues, PAP stands for poverty alleviation programme. NAPEP, is complemented by NAPEC. the national poverty eradication council, which oversees all poverty related activities and mini programmes of napep.
NAPEP has other sub programmes under it, all geared toward achieving the bigger goal 'poverty eradication' we have programes like YES(YOUTH EMPOWERMENT SCHEME), COMESS, SOMESS, RIDS,(RURAL INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEME), NRDCS,(NATURAL RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT AND CONSERVATION SCHEME), CES(CAPACITY ENHANCEMENT SCHEME) ETC, all these programmes have been one way or another minimally implemented ineffectively in some local government areas in the country.
No prgoramme, person or organization or even government can stop the poverty. It is in our minds and hearts, rather than in the outside world. It's about changing your own mentality, seeying new opportunities and following God. That's the fastest way of eliminating this horrible thing in Nigeria. In Nigeria NAPED stands for the National Poverty Eradication Programme. It was adopted by the government in 2001 to fight poverty and its effects in the community. Despite the fact that the economy of the country rapidly grows and develops, the level of poverty remains very high. Over 60 percent of the entire population (which is 170+ million people) lives below the poverty line.
These people have no more than $1 dollar to cover their needs per day. The NAPED provides training and jobs for young people and helps them to do better in life and overcome poverty in their families.
