Are you born genius or can you attain it? There are some practical things you can do to increase your brilliance and become an exceptional person, unique, valuable and one of a kind.
This is an interesting subject, isn’t it? But before you talk about how to be a genius, we should understand who genius is and why you would want to be one. Some people think that becoming a genius is impossible. You have to be born one, while others believe they can work their way up the brilliance ladder. Let’s get some definitions and answers first.
Who is genius?
This word comes from Latin. Its root “gen” means the family, so it kind of runs in the family. This same root is the part of the word “genesis”, which means the beginning or the ability to generate and create something. So, the idea of genius involves such aspects as the ability to produce something new or to be highly creative.
Another meaning of this word carries the notion of a “big” and highly perceptive soul, which has passion and feelings making it able to perceive new ideas and grab new concepts. It depicts a very curios and responsive person. So, now we get a better understanding of what it means to be a genius:
- a person with inborn or acquired abilities
- someone sensitive and attentive with high level of engagement in things
- someone highly curious
- someone with great imagination
So, as you can see, it is not all about being born that way. These genius characteristics give all of us home of becoming one.
Why become a genius?
Some people feel like being a mastermind makes them very special. Usually folks like to hear something like this: you are so talented! It is a pleasant thing, indeed. However, the truth is every person is special! We all are unique and special, but some of us do not know about it. That is it. You do to have to become a genius to be special. Moreover, you cannot become one pursuing this goal.
Why? Just because for one you would get easily frustrated. What if people do not see you as that? What if no one appreciates you? Would you quit trying and leave what you were doing? You see, a true whiz kid is someone in love with what they do. They are passionate about it (math, biology, music, crafting, quantum physics, anything). Their passion may even turn into obsession with the thing. So, they love what they do and would keep on doing it regardless of the opinions of others.
Another reason for is to be real smart. Here is the question for you: how do you become intelligent? Is it an inborn quality or something you work hard at?
There are many famous men of genius in the world, who were considered dummies at school, but they worked hard and learned, like Albert Einstein and eventually they got the acknowledgement. The road to success and full realization of their abilities was not easy. So, first set a clear goal and understand what makes you want that and then go for it and make your dream come true.
The truth is being a genius is not about high IQ or even EQ score. Scientists were unable to link those together. A genius is someone able to see things differently and share that with others. It can be done through art or science. It’s a special state of soul and mind and some people develop it from the birth, while others discover it later on in life.
How to be a real genius:
- Comprehend your own uniqueness
Do not believe those, who can provide you with practical steps of becoming a genius! It cannot be done like that. Genius is discovered and then nurtured and grown, but not made. You already have it inside. What you lack is the belief in yourself and, probably, in your Creator, too. If you would believe in His genius, you would believe in yours, too. He never created mediocrity, not even once!
So, you are unique and amazing, you have what it takes inside, but you did not discover it yet. Start by believing.
- Make a discovery
How do you find that out? By following your desires and heart. Remember, one of the keycharacteristics of a genius is passion. How many years have you spent doing something you hate or care nothing about? How do you suppose to discover that special talent, then? Passion is the key. Get your childhood dream out and dust them well.
Discover what turns you on and makes you want to live and work hard enough to make it done and follow your heart.
Somehow people think we should find the passion and love of our lives at the first sight. That is not true. Most of us need to experiment and try a great deal of things in life. Steve Jobs was like that. He said, he tried everything, even calligraphy before his has discovered his path in life. Give it a try. Do things that look cool and great and drop them if they do not evoke that sense of fulfillment in you.
- Have fun
Yes, that’s right. Set up some bizarre and ambitious projects, get some crazy ideas, let your creativity roll out. Remember a genius brain gets wild and awesome ideas. Most of them never gotten widely accepted first. Just think of Apple iPhones. No one really fancied that smartphone notion at first, as well as other smart inventions. People would even return the devices being unhappy with them. Just see what happens now. Yes, there is room for doubt and change of mind, but let yourself have fun with it.
- Work hard
Genius is not about getting everything done easily. That type of mentality would get you nowhere. Start learning and get some good education. Learn the handles of self-education. This process should never stop, not for a moment. And, get to work. Press on, overcome obstacles, develop patience and diligence. Nothing just happens! The more you learn and work, the more “genius” you develop and show.
Now you know that the ‘inborn’ part is not the way to become a genius. You do have it, you just need to believe it and work, work, work. If you just rely on the talent, you develop a fixed mindset. It bars you from further growth and success. When the obstacle emerges, you think you do not have enough talent to overcome it! But if you believe in the power of persistence and work, then you know: work a little harder and you will get it.
If you could only teach yourself this truth, there would not be anything impossible for you. It’s not about being a dummy or being a smart kid, it’s about your personality, passion and persistence.
Here is a great Leonardo Da Vinci quote to support such an idea:
“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.”
