Of course, the question interests all: how much money the doctor earns?
Unfortunately, in Nigeria experts not always receive big salary. The mass strikes, which were caused by a low wage, took place in this country. Doctors consider that they do much more, than get paid. Their salary depends on influence of the government.
Of course, doctors earn other amounts in private hospitals. Their salary makes about N80k. It can vary depending on experience of doctors and location of hospital. Also doctors try to work in several hospitals at once to earn more.
To increase a salary of doctors, the government made a uniform scale of a salary. However, it hasn't settled all problems yet. The average salary of the state doctor makes N195k – N220k. The chief physician can earn about N800k. Such rather low wages lead to the fact that other countries entice doctors for work. For this reason the best of them go abroad to get a job. Therefore, it is no wonder that wealthy citizens at any urgent medical case fly to other country.
Richest doctor in Nigeria
Benedict O. Okwara is the richest doctor in Nigeria, but now he lives in USA. It is one of those examples when good doctor is called to work abroad. He is an owner of clinic. Unfortunately, recently he was caught on fraud. Now he has to pay a penalty of 1.7 million dollars to the state.
First female doctor in Nigeria
Elizabeth Abimbola Awoliyi was born in 1910. She was the first female doctor in Nigeria. The woman lived in Lagos and studied at Catholic school. Later she has entered to royal college.
The girl worked as younger health worker. Then she studied at university of Dublin. She has received medical degree there. It has provided her increase on career ladder. The woman has received a position of the chief consultant and director in the same hospital. She worked there till 1969. In 1962, the Ministry of Health appointed her the chief obstetrician.
Elizabeth Abimbola Awoliyi has a lot of awards. Among them are: MBE, Iya Abiye of Lagos, Iyalaje of Oyo Empire, and Nigerian National Honor.
Her daughter has written the novel about her. Also she is mentioned in the book under the name Chapter Six: Nigerian Heroines of the 20th Century.
In honor of the female doctor, the clinic in Lagos was open.
