I can speak pidgin, but I choose not to. The only time I speak pidgin is when I am amongst the common people.

@ topic,

except in some very few cases when we are cracking jokes, its either English or the mother tongue

My parents never spoke to myself and my sisters / brothers in pidgin, so we grew up not speaking it at all.

I will not teach my children pidgin, nor will I use it in addressing them.

i was brought up 2 speak english with my parents.my primary up 2 uni were all private butty schools were speaking pidgin was considered "razz" n crude.my environment dat i grew up n i live did not give me d opportunity of speaking pidgin, even my friends dont know how 2 speak it till i went 4 d so-called nysc thingy were everyone is equall.my room mate n 1st friend i met durin my nysc was a proper "wafi chic".she taught me pidgin n made me drop some tins i learnt from home n school like sayin "hi",i never thought it was rude sayin hi 2 someone older than me,apparently it happened 2 be her boyfriend.d guy answered me but i knew he was upset not until my friend told me her boyfriend is an ijebu boy who takes hi 2 be rude.now i can rap pidgin like crazy (though i know wen n were 2 speak it) my parents dont like me speakin it at all

rude, me i dont see anythn rude in it, as long as u know who u speak it to, u cant expect me to speak it to a friends dad or watever, as long as the person who u are speaking it to approves of it then its not rude,

Well at the end of a long day, it is rude and it is crude.

hmmm if ur parents feel its rude, then u possibly dont ave to speak to them, for me, my parents dont see it as being rude, so we wrap well in pidgin

pidgin is something i speak with my mates,my friends.

I never spoke that language in the house. And i can never speak it to my dad.

If i had tried that , my people would have thought i was running mad.

Till today i do not even speak that to my brother or sisters.

Even if we go out together and speak pidgin to other people , we do not do that when we adress our selves.

Erm, u sure say una go wan make una pikin dey tear pidgin like say dem be bus conductor for Uselu Market for Benin? And I no gree wit wetin Mer-c talk b4: no b efribody wey dey Naija dey blow pidgin. Most people dey hear, no be all sabi fit yarn. When I dey stay Kaduna, I dey go boarding school 4 Waffi. If I carry the pidgin wey dem gif me 4 Waffi come nack dem for Kaduna, some people go dey look me like say dem shack Mumuzade. I don tok am b4: una don hear Hausa man dey yarn pidgin wey laugh no go wan kill u? Or any of una don enter Yenegoa for Bayelsa go hear dia own version?

When I dey England, pidgin no be big tin, all my Area papa plus mama dey efry corner. But as I dey Germany so, some people dey trip as me and my paddy dem dey change gear from Queens English enter Pidgin come flow English back. My belle dey sweet me like that becos dem know say dis black men go school even if dem no dey code wetin we dey yarn.

Yarn am! Blow d tin! Scatter ground wit am! Dey proud of am! But no talk say people MUST learn am just becos say you get control over dem. As I tok befor, if dem no wan learn, wetin u wan do? Beat dem? Break dia head? Notin dey happen! Erm, 2face, no vex.

Anyway, I no sure say e good if to say pidgin be official language for Naija. English dey okay as e dey. Nothing fit change am. But una fit do prayer and fasting sha. For Naija, miracle fit happen.
