Is This Story My Friend Told Me About Marriage True? (weird)

She told me that in Nigeria when your parents sell you to a man you cannot run away. If you run away people will bring you back to your husband. If you refuse to have sex with him, the village women will come and hold you.

Truth or fallacy?

I believe that used to be the case in the "olden days"

I can't speak for other tribes but in my tribe 'yoruba', the bride price is usually given back to the groom. This is just to show that they are giving away their daughter because of love and not for the money. The man accepts the money back and puts in the the brides' purse.

Leaving ones husband is frowned upon but no one will forcefully make you go back to the man if you don't want to.

I was told by my hubby that when a family "sells" thier daughtar to a man then the man can do whatever he wants and this includes beating and anything else. This is why most parents refuse the money and give it back.
