Should Parents/pastors Be Allowed To Cancel A Wedding?

Parents especially reserve the right to cancel a wedding between their child and another consenting adult in Nigeria. Is that proper?. A friend of mine had her wedding cancelled by Christ Embassy because the grooms mother put an injunction in the union. Is the church right by putting a halt to that wedding when the both parties involved are ready and willing to get married?

Yes and yes. Imagine a suave young man that mistakenly fell in love with Tpia, won't you wish his parents would have the authority to stop the wedding before he signs his death warrant?. Especially if the boy is igbo.

You can't demand for your tithes back because they've been transfered into the BanC of Heaven, Swiss Branch unless you want to sue God for a refund.

The get belle system is no more attractive nowadays because they can still leave you dry after getting knocked up. Too risky, no wedding band, no belle.

no she cannot!

yes, get her pregnant immediately she put up a fuss

about the marriage. that would have shut her up

I heard that catholic, anglican and RCCG do that too. They can cancel or suspend your wedding at the request of either parent anytime.

I still say the man is not man enough. Is that the only church around?

Maybe after he marries,he'll first ring up his mama for permission before consummating the marriage

A certification you need to get before getting married in the church. It's a 3 credit class and can be very tedious. Guys rarely pass it with good grades.

The wedding in discussion was paid for completely by the groom and not his family yet his mother made sure they spoilt his happiest day in life .

The man should grow up

The wedding was stopped by christ embassy Oregun road. And their reason was for the couple to go and settle with their family. Wtf, can't two consenting adults marry? You can't do that in the US as long as both of them are more than 18 years of age.

Is that the only Church in town?

do they have a means of transportation?

The man is obviously not mature enough to handle marriage

That's why his mother could act in this manner and get her way

If I were the bride,I'll leave him if he succumbs to her ways

Grooms ma didn't approve the girl for reasons best known to her. She has never liked her.

what does this mean exactly

"the grooms mother put an injunction in the union"

Cause that might be the reason why the marriage was cancelled

@ Topic

Well i will need to do some research and know what to say, but i think  the parent will only need to talk to the pastor, they cant try anything on their own to stop the wedding.

@ All you've been saying good words sha.

I think that that is one decision the parents should allow the kids to make for themselves. They are adults and they have the right to show who they are going to spend the rest of the life with and when. Of course they are exceptions such as the likes of Britney Spears.

No need for maths here. If they were really sheperds, why are there situations of wealthy pastors and poverty stricken members? But in marriage they become sheperds.

Fuc.k counselling, i decide if i want or not, if i dont, i will gladly take my marriage to the registry and straight to the reception if the pastor becomes fussy!

Says who??

A Pastor is like a shepherd and the members of his church are the sheep.

A HIV+ man/woman coming to marry in that church is the wolf/lioness.

Now do the math!!!!

some of these 9ja churches makes the intending groom and bride attend marriage classes for 6 months. . . .am sure of Catholic churches. . .and some Redeemed churches too. . . .

I know a guy that Redeemed Church cancelled his weeding simply because the wife was pregnant. . .they sometimes subject the bride to pregnancy test before agreeing to officiate the wedding. . .

No pastor can cancell my wedding. . . .infact. . .that shouldnt even be my headache sef. . .

Se bi na brides dey dey responsible for church.

not when they say do not marry her because she's from this tribe or

her family is like this etc. now that is not seeing things from

I don't trust nigerian pastors so, nah.

My mom must have a good reason to say no. So, I'll sit and listen to the reason. My conclusion and decision after that determines if I still want to marry him.

Haba. . . . Stillwater, parent have control over their wards lives now. . .

Maybe . . because we dont have kids yet. . . we might not fully understand the parent-kid connection.

In yoruba land. . . there is an adage that say:

"What elders see while sitting. . . .kids cant even see while on a tree top."

When the issue of love comes to the table, adults are worse than kids.

If u mistakenly fall in love with say. . .Tumfulu, and u guys are bent on marrying each other, u want him unchallenged??

Do u expect your parents to just allow you to marry him without proper screening??

no hell or high water

The couple getting married are adults for God's sake, or aren't they? They have no right whatsoever to cancel a wedding, phuleeaassee!!!

I believe strongly in parental approval of marriages. . .but not pastorial. Who knows what pastor has got underneath his bed. . .not with all these fake pastors prowling the streets. . . . .

Parents can stop their child's marriage. . .

and if a child doesnt want his/her parent to stop his/her marriage. . .

then he/she should get married in secret without the parents knowledge. . .

Thank God for pastors like that pastor on Jerry Springer's show.
