@ Topic

The Nigerian woman can be submissive, it essentially depends on the context. . . .what the situation is,

the environment and the individual herself. . . .her level of education, and how much self esteem she packing

so to speak. . . . .but personally i don't like the use of the word submissive. . . . cos in this context it seems they are

being described as being submissive to a fault, which generally isn't the case!!

Seeing that they are told from birth that merely being a female is enough for them to burn in hell, why wouldnt they agree with the beatings

Where's that Bottom-BehindBased fan called debosky. i am not with 4play o! You ppl cannot break my happy home for me. Heatfusion - thank you jare. Please remind that Bottom to stop calling me that horrible name.

@ Topic, most women are submissive because of their kids or because of society, not out of choice. Most women see it as an option to a happy home.

Please don't misunderstand me. . . I am not justifying abuse with this, I'm only attempting to show that the Psychological effects is universal, regardless of RACE, RELIGION, TRIBE, SIZE, HAIR COLOR OR LENGTH OF FINGER NAILS.

Very sad indeed and often times these women aren't from Polygamous homes.

There are abused White and Black women here in the US and UK who will tell you their abuse is their own doing. I made him angry, I spoke too loud, I put too much salt, I didn't get out of his way quickly enough. . . excuses after excuses for why their husbands gave them a black eye or broke their ribs and the last I checked, these women where not affiliated to a certain religion or group.

PHYSICAL ABUSE OF WOMEN IS NOT PECULIAR TO A CERTAIN TRIBE OR RELIGION and any attempt to make it so is just taking away from the real issue hand.

2. It indeed is a sad thing when in Nigeria, even the parent of the woman finds it okay for their son-in-law to "teach" his wife for misbehaving. Just so he wouldn't send her packing, disgracing their family name.

And 4Play, my question remains unanswered. How many of these pregnant women were surveyed and does the survey specified their region?

Sadly physical abuse not only leaves visible scars on the body, it also wrecks the psyche. You'd be surprised to know how many abused women (no matter how educated) sincerely believe they deserve to be beaten. It's their way of dealing with the fact that someone who claims to LOVE them takes pleasure in hurting them. This is why removing a woman from the abusive environment is just the beginning, intense Psychological treatment has to follow. . . unfortunately it is not available in Nigeria.

Apparently, in-laws are responsible for a quarter of the beatings.

The main issue of the thread IMHO is why these individuals would say that they deserved these ill treatments

That is the main issue that ought to be addressed.

we already know some men act like wild animals

What else could make a married woman think it excusable for her husband to bash her and her unborn child? If not for chaotic hormones, then what?

Some women have been programmed to think that whenever their husband beat them, it's their (women)'s fault.

Your topic says enough!

Like c'mon! The one and only 4Play, known for bashing naija women.

How could he not be happy with the naija women being satisfied with getting bashed?

What a evil thing.

LOLOLOL!! As to the topic, how many of these Nigerian women were surveyed and please specify the region.

Religion/ culture might be playing a role too.

We all know that Naija women in Nigeria are more submissive compared to their female counterparts in the Western world. In Nigeria, if your husband cheats on you then

everyone will tell you to hang in there and that he's just doing what a man has always done and will continue to do; even they may say oh so long as he didn't bring her back to the house, he respects you. I doubt a lot of people in the western world will think that way.

Generally, Married women are submissive to an extent to their husbands, just that they wont come to the internet to tell you that they actually are.

63% may not say so but I won't be surprised the ''masochists'' amongst Southern Nigerian women will be somewhat high too.

I said northerners.

if half are Hausa, the rest are the other minor tribes over there.

I'm not saying southern women are not abused by their husbands but believe me 63% will not tell you they deserved it.

Islam allows men to beat their wives so I guess good Muslim women have to agree that they deserved it ,afterall Allah knows best.

This is outrageous

1. Seems you're jovial with the fact that pregnant Nigerian women admit that getting bashed while a baby is growing inside their abdomen can sometimes be excused. Sickening!

2. You may not realize it, but pregnant women deal with chaotic hormones.

Like hello, they're out of their right mind!!!

Biko it's not Nigerian women.

Change the topic to Islamic women in  northern Nigeria.

The respondents were not mainly Hausa-Fulani(they might still be mainly Northerners though)and they were not all unlettered women.

Correlation is easy to establish. . .  . where else will you find a study where 63.5% of the respondents, pregnant women, say the physical abuse meted on them is justified sometimes or always.

The study is from Zaria

sharialand

how won't those child brides, one wife out of 4 muzzled women locked up 24 hours behind a mud house take any nonsense

what choices do they have.

Are there any normal, well adjusted, mentally mature females that'll excuse domestic violence at any time talk less of excusing their scourgers in pregnancy.

Topic makes no iota of sense.

Poster should have explained how his topic heading correlates with the given statistics. . . .
