Are You A Makeup Artist? Drop A Professional Line!

How long do cosmetics last?

Here's a list of commonly used cosmetics and their expected shelf life,

1. Mascara - will usually last 2 months or when the label is worn off, it clumps, specks, or becomes dry or smells bad

2. Foundation - has a shelf life of 18-24 months.

3. Powder - Expect 2 years unless it becomes dry or has an odor other than its original fragrance. You can protect your powder from contamination by being sure to change your sponge or powder puff after every application. Sponges are a haven for breeding bacteria and the fastest way to pass on germs.

4. Lip Pencils -1 year- Always dip in alcohol-kills germs

5. Eye pencils -Typically 3 months. Always sharpen or dip in alcohol after each use.  Either of these methods will kill germs.

6. Eye Shadow and Blush - dry, loss of pigment. Always wipe off with alcohol

7. Brushes - When your brushes start to look like fans and the tips become colored.  Keep brushes clean with brush cleaner or alcohol. I use alcohol for sterilizing my brushes and applicators. Use an alcohol with a strength of 90%. To clean brushes use a good brush cleaner. You can use soap and water but soap and water has a tendency to dry out brush bristles and reduce the longevity of your brushes.

TIP* Put a small piece of tape on the back of containers, and record the date you purchased it. This will assure that you will not use after the recommend expiration date.

"Sanitation is the most important process we, as Makeup and Hair artists, must implement if we are to keep our makeup, brushes and kits germ free. As working artists, we are constantly moving from face to face and head to head. The opportunities we have to pass germs and viruses from person to person are numerous. Therefore it is our responsibility to safeguard our clients and practice diligent sanitation techniques. By doing so we set a standard of excellence that goes far beyond just doing great makeup and hair!

HOW TO CONCEAL YOUR SPOTS

Having pimples and spots isn't easy and even the most confident of people can become self-conscious and upset. Whether you suffer from a lot of spots or just the occasional breakout, follow our advice to help you cover up even the most noticeable of acne.

      Step 1: Prepare

Before you even contemplate techniques to cover spots it is important to prepare correctly. This means always washing your face thoroughly before going to bed.

Wash your hands before handling your face. Dirt and oils on your hands will only aggravate the blemish.

Also make sure you moisturize any blemishes as it will be easier to cover soft skin than to cover dry skin.

      Step 2: Foundation

Depending on what suits your skin, you could use either a foundation or a tinted moisturizer on your face, and for smaller blemishes and spots this can sometimes be enough. This isn't a necessity but if you normally use these products then they should be applied before any concealer is used.

      Step 3: Concealer

Put a small amount of concealer on the back of your hand, and using a small brush, your finger or cotton bud apply it directly onto the spot.

      Step 4: Blend

Finally, using a small brush, blend the concealer at the edges of the spot onto the rest of the skin to give a more even finish.

Warning: Using too much makeup to cover blemishes may make skin look blotchy. Start conservatively, and add as needed.

There are no rules to makeup application but there are tricks and tips, techniques to achieving a better output with what you use,

My pro tip? Always have well defined eyebrows, use makeup brushes and every other thing falls in place. If you cannot groom your brows on your own, seek professional help.

Dear Seabreeze, not that black pencil harms your lips. It doesn't only just look unnatural,it doesn't make your lip colour look its best. You should try colours closest to your lipstick colour. For example light brown pencil wld look great with a sand or camel coloured lipstick. You can keep lining your lips with black but that ofcourse wld only look great with black lipstick, you know?

@FlyLyde: why shouldn't one line their lips with a black pencil, but other colours are acceptable? What damage does the black colour do?

Also, when you use heavy eye make up, avoid heavy lip make up and vice versa!

1.Never line your lips with black pencil.

2. Its OK to trim your brows to shape but shaving them all off will only make you look like a ghost!

3. If your teeth are not pearly white, you shld avoid lipstick colours such as gold or orange. These colours only give your teeth tinge of yellow. Try colours like burgundy and others in the red family. Do wonders to you smile!

hi ikamefa

if you want tour lipstick to last longer, use a good lipliner to line your lips and to fill your entire lips before applying your lipstick. ofcourse you have to use a lip liner color that matches/ is closest to the lipstick you intend to wear otherwise the liner will change the color of the lipstick.

ofcourse how long your lipstick lasts also depends on the brand you use.

remain blessed!
