How can a Nigerian woman create pretty hair braiding style? What is the secret of creating a luxurious image with braiding your hair? Here are a few tips you should keep in mind.
Braiding hair is almost a cult for Nigerian ladies. They love looking stylish and stunning, and braiding is a way to do that. That is why they get box braids with a number of choices to do with them.
What can you do with your box or twist braids for Nigerian women?
There are a few styles you can do if you have twist or box braids. The first thing you should do is get a toothbrush and some gel to lay the edges and prevent them from going fluffy.
Then think about making regular braids out of your twist braids. This is classy, and it always looks stylish, especially if you can add bright cloth to it to make a rebellious style.
Another idea is to make ladder braid. Here is an instruction on how to make this type of braid for Nigerian women using either natural long hair or twist braids. First, make a ponytail. The braid wants to make here is the fishtail braid that will go as if down the ponytail.
Here are the professionals explain this braiding principle: “Start a small braid just off center. Hold the lock that is on the right, let the middle one hang, and then reach under the ponytail and grab a lock of hair from the right side and bring it under and around the ponytail. This strand becomes your left braid lock.
Before grabbing another section, do three turns of the braid down so you can see the separation between each "ladder" strand. You will start seeing the ladder shape after going a couple of inches.
You are going to pull from behind because you are taking it from the right side and swinging it behind to the left side to create a little S shape. You want to keep the pieces as thin as possible without being too thin.”
Make it as long as you want it. Make it straight or wave it around the ponytail as it falls. DO it the way you like it and enjoy the results. This is known to be one of the trendy hair braiding styles of 2016.
The another style you might enjoy is a fishtail braid. You will need to make a ponytail for it too, as it is braided on it. Then divide your hair into two sections. Then, with your finger take a small section of your hair from the outer edge near the hair tie and cross it over to the opposite side (overlapping just like you would if you were doing a regular braid). Take your hair again to tighten plait, still holding two parts. Repeat with a small section from the other side.
Do this for as long as you want your fishtail to be. Keep in mind that you need to pull small sections from underneath to cross over, and try to grab the same size (about a half inch) sections from each side. That’s it: your fishtail braid is ready to go. Enjoy it!

The third option is to make a bow braid. It is a little bit more complicated than the first two but is even prettier than those two. That is why we highly recommend you mastering it as well. Start with making a regular French braid that ends up in a regular braid till the end. However, keep in mind that this should be a diagonal braid that starts above the left ear and goes down the back of one’s head. A part of the hair on the other side should be left out of the braid, as we will use it later to make braided bows.
Once you finish both French and regular braids, use a hair tie at the end, and proceed to the section of hair left at the top. You should release it and then brush it straight down one’s head. Now slide a hairpin through the first top stitch in the French braid and put a lock of hair in it. Use this lock to make a loop once you slide the pin through back and out of the French braid.
Remember that as you push a pin with a lock in it, you need to create two loops to make it look like a bow. Here is how people familiar with the matter recommend doing it: “Now slide a hairpin through the first top stitch in the French braid. Then from the top part take a small hair strand and then form a loop with it. Now through the hairpin slide the loop and now with your left hand hold onto the loop.
Next, through the loop of braid softly tug the hairpin back. And now create an another loop and create the bow look. Once the bow is complete, then remove the clasp. Now to the left of the braid let the ends of that bow fall which they must be hidden in the next bow you that you create. Keep on continue making the bows all along the braid and place them in the each top stitch of the French braid.”
Make sure to fixate the hairstyle not to lose it while walking or doing other activities. We hope that you find these tutorials useful. You can also get plenty of braids and then make a regular ponytail with them. Or think of making a bun using all of the Nigerian braids you have.
Alternatively, you can add some bright accessories into the Nigerian braids to make them stand out. Or you can dye your hair adding different colors to each braid. All in all, you have plenty of options. I hope you will enjoy playing around with your braided hair to make your hair braiding styles look dashing on the pictures. Enjoy!
