Hibiscus tea, also known as Roselle, is famous worldwide and for many reasons. People drink it to lose weight, improve their health condition and protect themselves from damage. Learn how from my article.
Hibiscus flowers are used for many purposes, mostly in the form of tea. The scientists have proved the use of this kind of tea long ago. Moreover, it has this special sour taste which makes it even better as in many cases “healthy” beverages are not tasty whatsoever.
The documental name of the plant is Hibiscus sabdariffa and it possesses a number of very useful features in its content. It has fewer calories than other teas, so it can be used for loss weight programs and unlike green tea, it has no caffeine.
If you suffer from high level of “bad” cholesterol or high blood pressure, make sure to drink at least a little bit of hibiscus tea within the day. It has these anti-inflammatory properties that will reduce the number of “bad” cells in your blood.
It can also help you protect your liver, prevent cancer and depression as well as assist your digestion process if you have any troubles in that area.
However, be careful with hibiscus tea during your pregnancy: it can stimulate menstruation which you are absolutely not looking for at this time. Nevertheless, to make sure just consult your doctor beforehand.
In the view of its numerous benefits people are coming up with recipes of how to make it in a way to taste better. Try one of these instead of simply filling your cup with hot water and adding some sugar into it. You are destined to enjoy them.
The first and most famous beverage made of Hibiscus flowers is called Zobo (or others call it Zoborodo). It is a perfect beverage for a hot day.
The ingredients for it can be easily found: 1 cup of dried Hibiscus sepals, 0,5 kg of pineapple, 6 cups of regular water, 1 tsp of Ground cloves, 0,5 cup of honey and 1 tbsp of Ground ginger. Then follow these steps:
- In order to make it start with sprinkling the dried hibiscus petals with water and washing the pineapple. Peel the skin off the pineapple and put it aside. Then cut it into chunks.
- Put all of the ingredients into a pot, add 6 cups of water and spices if you want any more. Let it boil for half an hour, then turn heat off and let the beverage cool down completely.
- Sieve this drink into a clean teapot. Then add sugar or honey on your choice. It is better to serve it with ice cubes on the hot days. Enjoy!
The other recipe is pretty much the same with the only difference in the quantity of ingredients in it. The author recommends taking 150 g Hibiscus petals, 7 liters of water, 30 g of fresh ginger, 3 tbsp of cloves, honey, pineapple, sugar (on you choice). The process of making the Zobo drink here is the same, though it might taste a bit different.
Hope you will enjoy the great taste of this drink and all the health benefits it brings!
