The proper botanical name is Annona muricata. A common popular name for it is soursop. The fruit is born on an ever green tree from the custard apple tree family. It mostly grows in subtropical areas, such as South Africa or Caribbean. It can be used as a medicine to treat infections, as it is a great germ killer or even asthma. Dried fruit bits are often times added to tea.

There have been many research on this fruit. I remember back in the old country we use to eat this thing for fun and we drink the juice too like it was just any regular. Learning about this recently is very interesting. I read it form this site about the supplements and side effects. Read more one some of the Health benefits of Graviola.

The Graviola tree, annona muricata, Brazilian pawpaw, guanabana, soursop, is a tree that is found deep in the Amazon jungle and also on some Caribbean islands.

I was just talking about this fruit again today with someone and it seems to go by alot of names depending on where you are from: soursop, guanabana, etc. I know it to be known as the custard apple as this is the genus that this fruit's family is from. Here is a source if anyone is interested:

We must not wait for the English man to give everything a name.

Even things they had never seen or known before.

That was how we waited for Mungo Park to come and name the River Niger and almost every other thing in Africa.

I hereby name this fruit Shawachop. period!!!
