Should humans eat meat?

What do you know about meat consuming? Can we live without meat? Read the article to find out!

Should human eat meat

Should human eat meat? It`s quite a big question. According to scientists, one of the reasons why our ancestors managed to go through evolution process was changes in their daily diet. We managed to go through a lot of troubles and have become masters of the Earth. Therefore, eating meat for a human is quite a natural way of things. Nevertheless, it does not mean that we have to eat meat constantly. Some people, who fight for the rights of animals, usually prefer not to eat them. Still, a number of proteins gathered from one bit of meat is more pleasurable than the same amount of meat from the few hundred grams of vegetables or fruits.

Why do we eat meat?

Why do we eat meat?

It`s natural behavior for any human entity. Throughout centuries people eat meat, and people who can`t afford meat on their tables are usually considered poor. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that we prefer to hunt for Mammoths for days and weeks rather than eating fruits and vegetables. It was considered in old age that all men should eat meat to become strong. Therefore, in historic point of view. Meat eaters are winners. It is only at the end of the 19th century; vegetarians started to fill in their ideas of not eating animals.

You can`t forget how meat played in our evolution. Our digestive tract is formed to aid the consumption of meat. Moreover, cooperative hunting only helped to develop of a socializing structure is societies. It also helped to a domestication of animals. If you look deep to the history, then you may found, that consumption of meat was the priority. It also led to the different preferences and bans concerning to meat. Even modern Western culture is highly orientated on the meat consumption. Nowadays, people can consume high-quality proteins. This was not affordable for many generations of the pre-industrial era. Now our economy can supply us with high-quality meat.

Still, is it possible to get rid of this tradition? We obviously can benefit from eating meat. It helps us to produce necessary elements to stay strong and healthy. Still, negative consequences are pretty obvious; we murder thousands if not millions of animals every day. It gives us a heavy burden that we have to bear to the end of our lives. Moreover, it also costs multitude ecology problems, like greenhouse gasses. It should also be understandable that we spend other resources to produce meat and they do not benefit our environment at all.

 resources to produce

As it was mentioned earlier, killing animals and eating their flesh, using them, have been a crucial part of our evolution. It provided us larger brains, smaller guts and other attributes toward our close relations. It also gave us language. We could only get larger brains from consuming high-protein food. Moreover, mutual hunting and killing animals – raised social skills between our ancestors. It`s purely understandable that our guts and our digestive system are prepared for eating and consuming plants and flesh. Moreover, scavenging and hunting provided our ancestors the evolution of bipedalism. The coordinating hunting and scavenging provided our ancestors quite an immersive jump in language and communication. It should be mentioned, that we are omnivorous specie, it means that we can eat meat and plants, but the preferences still go to meat.

Homo sapiens is a representative of a perfect example for high degree natural meat consumption. Only later we came to the ideas with crops accommodation. Nevertheless, rare food could be

Can we substitute meat

Can we substitute meat

It`s rather a tricky question. We can`t fully substitute animal proteins with fruits and vegetables. Our body requires some proteins. Therefore, it`s hard for many people to become vegetarians and vegans at once. Therefore, some therapists believe that becoming a vegetarian or vegan should be made step by step.  Some vegetarians believe that they should take one day in the year to eat some meat. It`s like a day off for vegans and vegetarians. Some scientists even try to produce synthetic meat which is made without killing animals. Every traditional culture had meat as their main food, and another type of food would be only supplementary. Nevertheless, due to wars, plagues and poor economy condition in Europe led to a lack of meat on the tables. It even provided poor health condition to the nations. With the Industrial Revolution and urbanization in the 18th century. The whole dietary system changed rapidly. Moreover, in the 20th century after WWI and WWII, the meat market was open in Asia and Latin America.

As a result, we can say about numbers, like 50 times more production of a meet in the 1950s, than before the wars, 110 times more production of meat in 1975 than in the 1950s and 275 times more in 2010. The total level of consumption for a day in many countries is around 40g per capita. Some countries may provide other numbers, like 110g per capita. These demands could be only satisfied with a combination of meat production and farming operations. Still, it requires vast pastures, which means deforesting. For today, the leader of the deforestation can be named Brazil. We also need large complex feeding facilities, which produces tons of green gasses. Most of them concentrated in the North Amerika.

North Amerika

This leads humanity to a mass scale production of meat. It also connected to the production of grains, legumes, tubers. Nevertheless, it also leads us to the mass massacre of animals for food. It gives animals the dead end stress and suffering.

Meat is also a very expensive food to produce. Large animals can`t feed their muscles. It makes people a choice of using medicine, like steroids to make animals bigger. Broiler chickens have only seven weeks to live, and all these weeks they just eat and sit on their beefcake bodies. The heavy weight of their bodies can give them the ability to stand up.  Meat production also arises the fact of climate changing with high pollution of the air.

Some scientists believe that it`s quite possible to increase an efficiency of meat production and decrease pollution to the air or the ground. It should be made agronomic improvements which include optimized irrigation. It can reduce the overall demands of resources and energy input, reduce soil erosion, increase biodiversity. Many modern improvements can significantly reduce the impact of the meat production industry on the environment. It also can provide energy saving options to the meat productions. Better slaughter houses and meat production methods can increase meat safety. Nevertheless, it`s quite a money issue. Therefore, many meat production companies do not desire to deal with this. It does not give them highly paid production in a short-run and the long-run, the technologies will become better. Still, they do not think that it`s a nice investment.

Rational Meat eating

Rational Meat eating

Scientists believe that we can stick to the rational meat eating. We can produce millions of tons of meat without into cannibalism or confined animal feeding operations. We wouldn`t need to share arable land for producing crops for feeding animals. Moreover, one single hamburger can be produced without putting of meat of every cow in it.   We might be able to secure adequate meat supply for today`s humanity need with using high technology methods of production.

We can`t deny that meat consumption is a part of our evolutionary heritage. Meat production is a part of our highly sophisticated system. We can`t destroy it, but we can set up limits, that can help us to restore the biome of our planet without endangering of our civilization.

Meat production

The most obvious root on the way to reducing would be improving meat production efficiency and reduce wastes that could significantly impact on our environmental changes. Any large scale production of human can be deal with a large amount of wastes, and the modern meat industry is one of these productions. If we compare meat production to other imperative productions, then we should give priority to meat production. It includes processes, like feeding, breeding, confinement, killing and transportation. Therefore, we have to kill live animals to survive, but we can make this process not that harmful for animals. Moreover, we should also stick to the problem of green gas effect.

Opportunities for making some changes in the meat industry are quite variable. We can make cattle go to the slaughter house without arising panic and stress for them. Therefore, slaughter houses might be better designed for killing animals; they might not desire to see other cows dying in front of them or hear screaming.

Do we have a place for changes?

Do we have a place for changes?

It`s hard to forecast any decisions that can be made by humanity this times. It`s certain that the scales will be wider. It`s obvious that the meat production today and twenty-five years ago is a completely different story. Our meat production depends on economic, technical variables and commodity demands. Therefore, forecasting the level of consumption for the next twenty-five years is highly risky. It`s connected with the complex integration of population and economic growth, cultural preferences, health concerns, cultural norms and future tendencies. Therefore, it`s quite a guessing game with a wide range of outcomes.

Nevertheless, it goes to the numbers, which can give us much analytics. According to these numbers, people will eat 33% more meat in 2030 than today, with 57% more meat in 2050 than today and 82% percent more meat than today.

These numbers can be analyzed by the idea of slow growth and stagnation in the next few decades of years. It also provides the idea of slow average incomes increase. It also slows population growth. These prospects may give us the ideas of large scale urbanization. It will create mega cities with over twenty million of a population. Increasing the speed of technologies and growing all necessary cultures within the cities. Advanced technologies may decrease the amount of cost for essential agricultural needs. It will keep reducing environmental impacts. The long term trend will cheap electricity.

Nevertheless, it should also be mentioned, that CAF standards will be changed and animals will get more space for their need. They will be better treated, and their death will be not painful. Moreover, it should also be mentioned stress relived factors for animals. Some changes toward animals would be dictated by society and economic regulations. Nevertheless, these great positive impacts couldn`t be less important than negative expectations toward demands of food in 2030 and 2050. We might be given the much higher price to the environment, then today.

It does not mean that filled with high proteins we can have much more in our stake. Higher meat supply can`t be influential for any economy. It also does not provide high longevity of life. Nevertheless, there are predictions that we should expect longevity of life in next few decades. It means that we need more supplies of meat. The global output of meat for today is around 140t, where in the second half of the century it`s expected to be 200t per year. We should think how to achieve these results without continuing polluting of our atmosphere.

high proteins

The needs of new technologies still exist, the nutrient inputs to the soil may improve the quality. Moreover, we can achieve additional 100t per year with using only 10% of farmland that currently exists. Even if we talk about 300 tons of meat a year for 8 billion populations, it gives us only 40g of meat per year per capita. It also gives us problems about inequality of resources.

The global inequality is not going to be illuminated in the next few generations. One of the most realistic goals for today is going to the egalitarian consumption. That means that some rich countries will have better portions of meat, while others would suffer from it. What should be proposed to the population then?

Modern dietary transitions modified eating habits for the vast majority of earth people. These dietary changes were provided in post-WWII era. The two generations of warriors provided us a better world today. Therefore, we know have a better quality of food on our tables. Moreover, they provided stability in the world that got a great impact on the production of goods. Nevertheless, todays aging population of the Western World may give us the absolute decline in population for the next few years.  The fertility rates are beyond recovering, marriages failing, childbirth postponed, family creation postponed, while the cost of raising a family in modern conditions is way up high. According to statistics, by 2050, two out of three citizens of countries, like Japan, German, USA, China will be above sixty years old. Moreover, Germany, Russia, Japan and many smaller countries will have much less population than today.

meat production

Therefore, the population of countries, like USA and China continues to grow. It also provides us the high demands in meat consumption. Therefore, these countries will be larger manufacturers and consumers of meat.

This trends can continue to the end of the century. Therefore, we are about to make a great choice between increasing meat production and continue polluting our environment, or we can reduce meat production. Both variants are totally unacceptable for developed countries. Meat is the main source of energy for many people. Still, a high polluted atmosphere is also a problem to be considered about. We can`t all become vegetarians.

Nevertheless, a best scientist on the earth is in searches for finding the best possible results for our planet and our population. Therefore, should humans eat meat? It`s dictated by our evolution, and our digestive system is provided to mostly meat orientated. Therefore, it`s completely your choice to eat meat or not, but you may expect some health consequences from that.
