Appendix is a pouch-shaped organ. It`s connected to the large intestine. The inflammation of appendix is called appendicitis. The life threating condition of appendicitis includes the rupture of the appendix which causes death. The appendix is located on the lower right side of human`s abdomen. It`s a vestigial organ that is connected to your gastrointestinal system. The removing of an appendix from your body will not cause death. The inflammation of the appendix may be caused by an obstruction or blockage. The reasons of blockage may be fecal, bacteria, parasites. People experience different symptoms during appendicitis. If you suspect that you have one of them, the only reasonable answer would be calling emergency as the rapture can happen during 48-72 hours. The main appendicitis symptoms are:

  • Abdominal pain

Appendicitis causes aching and dull pain in abdominal area. As it becomes bigger the pain will be more efficient. The pain is located in the area of a right lower part of the abdomen. Also, some people may feel a sharp pain in lower back or even pelvic pain.

  • Mild Fever

Appendicitis may be similar to standard flu with rising average body temperature up to 37-38 degrees Celsius. A patient may also experience chills. A temperature higher than 38 degrees Celsius may be a sign of appendix rupture.

  • Indigestion

The patient loses its appetite. Also, the patient experiences frequent vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea. The defecation and urination cause severe pain of the patient.

According to medical instructions, a doctor has to provide you a physical examination to diagnosis appendicitis. The doctor may require you to go through certain tests to prove or disprove appendicitis suspicious. Those tests are:

  • Blood tests
  • Urine tests
  • An abdominal ultrasound

If the diagnosis is right and you have appendicitis. Doctors set up the date of surgical operation for you and provide you antibiotics prior to the operation. The antibiotics prevent possible infection of abdominal after surgery. On the operation day, a surgeon performs an appendectomy, which is a medical term for this kind of operation. After surgery, you doctor may require you to stay in the hospital for stabilization period. It`s also possible that the doctor may prescribe additional medicines to make your full recovery.

Appendicitis may happen at any time of the life but the risk zone is the age between 10-30 years old. Statistically, men are more prone to the risk of appendicitis than women. The appendicitis can`t be prevented but the risk of its occurrence may be reduced. The World Health Organization shows, that people, who had a diet which is rich in fiber, are less prone to occurrence of appendicitis. Also, general medical studies show, that appendicitis is more likely to happen if people conduct unhealthy lifestyle.
