Do you suffer from insomnia, pain in bones of the spine and ribs, sweating or irritability? Chances are that you have vitamin D deficiency.
If you have ever heard somebody say “the sunshine vitamin”, it referred to the vitamin D. Although it contains mostly in foods of animal origin, it can also form in the skin by exposure to the sunlight (ultraviolet radiation).
Recent studies have shown that this vitamin should be called D-hormone and that it has a great influence on the body. The data shows that it prevents many diseases including 16 types of cancer. We are talking about the cancer of breast, prostate, colon, pancreas, esophagus, ovaries, uterus, gall bladder, stomach, rectum, kidney and other tumors. Scientists even discuss the possible mechanisms by which vitamin D protects us from cancer. For example, they suggest that vitamin D reduces the formation of blood vessels supplying the tumor with blood, suppresses genes that stimulate proliferation of tumor cells, and stimulates the immune system.
So, what foods are rich with vitamin D?
- Chicken eggs
Chicken egg is the only product that the body digests completely, without leaving toxins in the intestine. Egg yolk is a rich source of vitamin D. Vitamin D helps the absorption of calcium, which strengthens the bone tissue. In addition, the vitamins in the yolk help to fight fatigue and bad mood, and prevent the development of cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Butter is a concentrate of cow’s milk fat. Milk fat has valuable biological and taste qualities. It includes a balanced complex of fatty acids and contains significant amounts of phosphatides and fat-soluble vitamins, including vitamin D, and is easily digestible. Moderate consumption of butter is good for our health.
Perhaps the most useful of our health is the liver of fish because it contains a lot of vitamin D, which is essential for the formation of healthy bone tissue. Nutritionists recommend the liver to the patients with cardiovascular and nervous diseases and children suffering from anemia. Pork and beef liver is good for smokers.
Salmon is a very tasty fish, which is appropriate in the diet of an adult and child due to its beneficial properties. To save the maximum amount of nutrients, it is better not to fry salmon in the pan, but bake in foil, or on grill. There is evidence that consumption of this fatty fish weakens some of the symptoms of psoriasis, improves vision and brain function. It contains a complex of vitamins, and is particularly high in vitamin D.
- Whipped cream
Whipped cream is a dairy product with 10-35% fat, produced by separation of milk. Whipped cream contains mineral salts and vitamins such as A, E, C, B1, B2, and such elements as potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, chlorine, iron, zinc. In addition, whipped cream contains vitamin D, essential for absorption of calcium and phosphorus. It is proved that the calcium from the cream is absorbed better than from cereals, bread and vegetables. Whipped cream is delicious, and it is often used in confectionery.
