Dream to get rid of constipation? What are the remedies for constipation? How to prevent new constipation? You’ll find out everything you wanted to know about this problem here!
Constipation is not a joke at all. Sometimes it's very painful, but usually it is easy to find a real cause of your bowel inertia. Perhaps this is a deficiency of fiber in the diet or not enough liquid, or stress, or lack of exercise, or drugs, or the wrong attitude to different intestines. Below we write all these factors, ways to improve the situation and the remedies for constipation.
Do you drink enough? A lot of experts certainly agree that the first thing to do to a person suffering from constipation is to check the diet. The main menu items for combating constipation are dietary fiber and fluid. It should be a large amount of both of them.
How much liquid and how much fiber do you need?
Let's start with the needed liquid. Remember, minimum 6 glasses of fluid (preferably 8) should be in the diet of every adult – says a nutritionist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. While any liquid is suitable, the best of all is water.
Eat more fiber. Most people eat an insufficient number of fibers. The American Dietetic Association recommends a daily consume off 20-35 grams of dietary fiber for adults and at least 30 grams for those who suffer from constipation.
Where does fiber come from? The complex carbohydrates such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables have fiber. And if you carefully choose the food, it is not difficult to receive daily norm of 30 grams: 1/2 cup green peas, for example, will give 5 g, 1 small apple - 3 g, and a plate of bran - 13g. Most of the fiber is contained in the cooked beans, prunes, figs, raisins, cornflakes, oatmeal, pears and nuts. One warning: increase the amount of fiber gradually in order to avoid being tortured with gases.
Work out. You know that the exercise is good for the heart, but it is also useful for the functioning of the intestines. This is an indirect treatment of constipation. In general, we believe that regular exercise tends to combat constipation, causing food to move more quickly through the intestines, - says MD, Professor Edward R. Eichner, the head of hematology department of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma.
Laugh. Good soulful laughter can help with constipation in two ways. It massages the intestines, which is conducive to digestion and also helps get rid of stress, - says Alice Crane, a nurse, president of the American Association of therapeutic humor - that's your treatment of constipation.
Should you use laxative? The laxatives are available in a broad sale, they usually perform their mission, but you get used to them, - says Dr. Rousseau. - Using a lot of these chemical laxatives will make you get used to them, and constipation may be exacerbated. When should you take a laxative from the pharmacy bubble? Almost never. Only if the doctor prescribes it.
Be aware that different laxatives act differently. A lot of drugstores offer (close to chemical laxatives) a different category. It is often labeled as natural or herbal laxative treatment of constipation. The main ingredient in these products is comminuted psyllium seed. This super concentrated form of fibers, which in contrast to the chemical laxatives you cannot get used to, and, in general, it is safe even for a long-term use - explains Dr. Russo. However, he warned that these remedy should be taken with plenty of water (read the instructions on the box) or otherwise they can stick together in your stomach.
Try a special doctor’s prescription. The problem with many laxatives with psyllium at their base is that they are quite expensive. But you can prepare these means yourself, if you buy psyllium seed and crush it. Dr. Lauder offers to grind 2 parts of psyllium with one part of flax bran and also 1 part of oat bran (all of which you can buy at the store) for the preparation of potions with very high fiber content. Mix the ingredients with water and take every night at about 9 o’clock.
From time to time look for fast relief. If you really feel awful, nothing will clean your intestines so quickly as such treatment of constipation, as an enema or suppositories. They are very suitable for infrequent use, - says Dr. Rousseau. - However, you risk getting lazy colon with frequent reference to it, so you could end badly. Do enemas only with clean water or saline, but never use a soap solution, as it can cause irritation. And when you go to the drugstore for candles, choose only glycerin ones, avoiding the harsher chemicals on the market.
Review your medications and supplements. There are a number of medications that can cause or worsen constipation, - says Dr. Rousseau. - Among the well-known culprits - antacids containing aluminum or calcium, antihistamines, drugs for Parkinson's disease, calcium supplements, diuretics, narcotics, phenothiazines, tricyclic antidepressants and sleeping pills.
Beware of certain foods. What causes constipation for some, it does not for others. For example, milk can cause severe constipation for some people, while for others - diarrhea. Dr. Schuster says that those, who have constipation as a result of spastic colon, should avoid foods that can cause the formation of gas. This includes: beans, cauliflower and cabbage - it prevents constipation treatment. If during constipation you experience severe pain, you should blame spastic colon.
Eat slowly. A person with spastic colon, should avoid overeating, which stretches the intestinal tract and thereby aggravates constipation, - says Dr. Schuster.
Be careful with herbs. There are a lot of herbs that help to get rid of constipation. Especially the good ones are: aloe (juice, not gel), sienna, rhubarb (Medical), cascara sagrada, dandelion root and psyllium. Some, for example, cascara sagrada, can be very effective - says Dr. Lauder - but you should be careful. Just like chemical laxatives, some herbal preparations cannot be abused.
Do not strain. No matter how tempting it is, do not try to get rid of constipation at the cost of enormous efforts. It is unwise: you risk getting hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and it is not only painful, but can also worsen constipation, narrowing the anus. Moreover, the stress can increase blood pressure and reduce the heart rate. Dr. Russo said he knew several elderly patients who had lost consciousness, fell off the toilet, and as a result got a fracture.
An alternative way:
Avoid vegetable oil. Eliminate vegetable oils pressed from vegetables, olives, soybeans from your diet all and, possibly, the chronic constipation will be less trouble for you, - says Dr. Grady Deal, philosophy, a chiropractor from Koloa, Hawaii. - It's not the oil itself, but the fact that you eat it in a free form.
This causes constipation and a lot of other digestive problems, - says Dr. Diehl, who bases his theory on the works of Dr. John Harvey Kellogg medicine, food reformer, who lived on the turn of the century, the brother of magnate, producing breakfast cereals.
Dr. Diehl explains problem with vegetable oils is that they form in the stomach a layer, which hampers the digestion of carbohydrates and protein in the small intestine. The adequate digestion is often delayed up to 20 hours, causing the formation of gases and toxins that accumulate in the colon.
But these oils (in their natural forms) such as nuts, avocados, corn, freed gradually, without forming any oil layer, which delays digestion and causes constipation. These oils, according to Dr. Diehl, in contrast to the depressed ones are healthy and nutritious diet components.
But there are even more traditional methods of establishing the work of the intestine with atonic constipation.
