Adults can try to deal with the problem efficiently if there are too frequent stools, without fever and general health is good. Be sure to consult a doctor if diarrhea appeared after a trip to remote regions, or if the cause of diarrhea is exotic food, water from unknown sources, including reservoirs and wells. When you notice a high body temperature, nausea, vomiting, and blood in the stool and the appearance of severe constant abdominal pain you should immediately seek medical help.

Complications of diarrhea

Dehydration (dry lips and tongue, thirst, rapid breathing, rare urination).

Drink preferably warm or at room temperature water, broth. Avoid alcohol, coffee, milk and fruit juices. If it is infant diarrhea, continue to breastfeed.

Do not eat if you have any appetite or if you feel indigestion or stomach cramps.

Keep a diet. It is recommended to eat bananas, rice, dried white bread, processed cereals (oatmeal, for example), potatoes, boiled or baked vegetables, lean meat in small amounts.

To complete the normalization, avoid fresh fruits, green vegetables, alcohol, fatty, spicy and fried foods.

Prolonged diarrhea, especially accompanied by weight loss is dangerous. Immediately contact the doctor.

If necessary, you can use over-the-counter antidiarrheal drugs for the temporary relief of the condition. However, these tools are not recommended for a long time, because they can increase the duration of diarrhea or cause more serious violations.

Diarrhea is a common side effect of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, antibiotics, and antidepressants.h

Consult a doctor if diarrhea lasts more than two days in case wit children and more than five days in the event with adults.

Medical help

In most cases, diarrhea resolves on its own within two days. If the liquid diet doesn't help, your doctor may prescribe drugs that slow the activity of the intestine. However, these drugs are not recommended for children.

The physician must identify and eliminate the cause of diarrhea. If it is necessary, he can send you to the hospital for tests and treatment.

Preventive measures

Wash your hands after using the toilet, changing the baby, and before eating. Hands should be washed with warm water and soap. After cooking, especially if you were holding raw meat, be sure to thoroughly wash your hands.

Be careful with food. Unpasteurized dairy products, eggs, poultry, and meat, can contain bacteria that cause diarrhea and other problems of the gastrointestinal tract. Meat should undergo a full heat treatment. Thoroughly wash your cooking boards and knives. Do not eat unpasteurized dairy products, especially of unknown origin. Don't place cooked foods warm for a long time because it could trigger the breeding of dangerous bacteria.

If you have diarrhea, you should not work as a cook, waiter, etc. until the end of diarrhea.

If you are traveling, do not drink tap water or any untreated water, especially of unknown origin. Drink better water well-known manufacturers, packaged in bottles or cans. To purify the local water, it must be boiled for 15 minutes. You can also add tablets or drops of iodine and chlorine, or use a special filter. When using chlorine tablets and iodine carefully read the instructions and follow it. Also, in any case, can not eat unwashed fruits and vegetables (should be washed only with clean water, and very carefully, and even better to peel). Avoid these fruits, such as melons, which are often pumped up with water inside to increase their weight.
