For many years excess acid was believed to be the main cause of peptic ulcer disease. Accordingly, the focus of treatment was on neutralizing and suppressing secretion of gastric acid.

At the same time, as acid is still considered necessary for the formation of ulcers, it is separately necessary to notice that the two most important initiating causes of ulcers are infection of the stomach, in particular a bacterium called "Helicobacter pyloricus "( H. pylori ) and chronic use of anti-inflammatory drugs, which are commonly called as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), including aspirin. Smoking is also an important reason for the formation of ulcers.

Infection with the bacterium H. pylori affects more than a billion people around the world. It is believed that 2/3 of the Russian population over the age of 60 are infected with H. pylori. Infection usually persists for many years, leading to ulcer disease in 10% to 15% of infected cases. In the past, H. pylori was detected in more than 80% of patients with gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer. With increasing knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of this infection, prevalence of infection H. pylori and the incidence of ulcers caused by its activity decreases.

ulcer occurs due to improper diet, bad habits. For example, if you smoke and drink alcohol. The alcohol will burn all the gastric mucosa and wounds will appear. Is not the observance of right food. Need to eat natural, fresh. Now built a lot of fast food. But you just watch how and what they prepare food. The food there is in most cases not fresh, not all fried in healthy oil. Also in the home there are fans to eat oily food or very spicy. You can sometimes treat yourself with this, but if you constantly eat this food, you will see a stomach ulcer.
