What poop says about your health?
How poop and health are connected? The conversation about poop can cause laughter or confusion at many people. Nevertheless, if to speak seriously, with its help it is possible to learn many things about the state of health of the intestines and about the general state of health. Everything, beginning with a form, size, a smell, color, can point to diseases, bad food, or other problems of the digestive tract. Even color and a smell of excrements can give you the hint about your health in general. So what your poop says about your health? The quantity of poop depends on the quantity of the eaten food. At the mixed food, which quantitatively corresponds to requirements of an organism, its weight makes 200-300 g. According to some information, it makes up to 900 g. The weight of poop substantially depends on the content of water. Therefore, at constipations, when absorption of water is strengthened, the weight of a daily poop decreases. The significant increase is observed in the diseases, which are followed by digestion of food (damages of a pancreas, gastritis and so on). The special abundance happens at damages of a pancreas at which its weight can reach 1 kg.
What does healthy poop look like?
The form of poop health masses depends on a consistency, the content of water, slime, and fat. Normal poop contains about 70-75% of water and has the uniform structure. Dense, even firm poop, observed at constipations, gets out of a normal form and consists usually of separate lumps because of its long stay in thick guts. At spastic colitis, there is poop representing small round lumps of a dense consistency. Such dense poop contains about 60% of water. Change of a form can depend both on organic stenosis and on the spastic narrowing of the sphincter. Liquid mass represents the pathological phenomenon. It contains 90-92% of water. Excrements can have non-uniform character. Dense masses can float in liquid or slime that happens at inflammatory processes in a large intestine.
The consistency of masses depends on a variety of reasons, the main of which is the time of their stay in a large intestine. Acceleration of a vermicular movement leads to insufficient absorption of water, and delay — to excess absorption. At plentiful allocation with the wall of intestines of inflammatory exudates and slime, at the reception of salt laxatives, poop gets a consistency more liquid than normal. Mass containing a lot of fat has an ointment consistency. The color of masses at the healthy person can change a little depending on the eaten food. Most often, there are various shades of brown color – milk food gives light brown, even yellow color, meat – dark brown. Vegetable products give their shade to masses, beetroot – red, bilberry, blackcurrant, coffee and cocoa – from dark brown to black. Considerable impact on color is exerted also by some medicinal substances taken inside (for example, bismuth – black, iron medicines – greenish-black etc.).
Color changes also at pathological processes in digestive organs. There are many of these options. At not intake of bile in intestines poop gains grayish-white, clay or sand color. Pancreatitis (a pancreas disease) also gives the almost white color. Fatty masses can have the gray color. The presence of blood gives to inner masses various color depending on the place of bleeding. If it happens in a stomach, then – dark brown, almost black color. The below the bleeding center is located on the course of intestines, the less dark color and redder.
The smell depends on the presence of products of disintegration of the food remains at poop, mainly proteins. Therefore, at the abundance of proteins in food, the smell amplifies. At the prevalence of putrefactive processes in intestines (for example, the disintegration of tumors), the poop gets a fetid smell, at fermentative processes – sour. At bad chewing of food, and more at bad digestion the masses can contain not digested food remains in the form of whitish or grayish lumps.
At the considerable content of fat, the surface of excrements gets peculiar slightly opaque gloss and a consistency of ointment. Slime in normal poop is available in the minimum quantity in the form of the thin brilliant raid covering a surface of masses. At inflammatory processes, it can appear in masses in the form of lumps of whitish or yellow color on a surface of mass or between its fragments.
At problems in work of digestive tract, especially at bleedings, long-term constipations surely see a doctor. Don't self-medicate!
