Dubai is a city situated in United Arabian Emirates. It is the most populated city of this country. Besides, it is the richest and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. But things not always were like that. Let us take to a little excursion how this city changed through the years.
A little bit of a history
The earliest records where Dubai was mentioned are dated by the year of 1095. An Andalusian-Arab geographer and traveler Abu Abdullah al-Bakri had made notes of Dubai in his Book of Geography.
In the 18th century Dubai was established as a village of fishers. During the 19th century Dubai was caught by 2 catastrophes: in 1841 people suffered from an epidemic of red plague, in 1894 a fire swept down through Deira, where the population was re-located during the plague.

An oil era
The 20th century was the most successful for Dubai. In 1966 oil was discovered in the territorial waters of Dubai. The only bad period for this city was during the 1990’s Gulf War, when United States led 34 nations against Iraq. It had a negative financial effect on the city. However, after the war many countries removed their businesses to Dubai. Thanks to large increase of the oil prices encouraged the authorities of Dubai to focus on tourism and free trade.
It is impossible to talk about Dubai without mentioning this building. Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world; its height reaches 829.8 meters! The target of building this giant was to gain an international recognition. The constructing began in 2004 and was completed in 2010.
It was designed by Adrian Smith, who was a member of a firm “Skidmore, Owings and Merill”, most known for designing the Willis Tower and the World Trade Center.
You could also see it in the Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, starring Tom Cruise.
Currently the only thing to do is to enjoy the unbelievable views of Dubai and to dream to get there one day!
