The reason I wrote this short observation erupted from the YOUTUBE interview clip with Hakeem Seriki a.k.a Chamillionaire.
The link is right here:
Chamillionaire says in the clips that his parents are both from Lagos, Nigeria. Then, people started rambling and yelling with their comments; “he was stupidity he needs to come correct that he’s a Nigerian.”
He is a Nigerian and never hide it, despite he had never visited Africa; but sometimes if you want to stay on top of your game in anything that reflects Black People in America (either sports, hip-hop, or education), the black folks always want you to be pure African American.
They also lashed out Nasiru Oludara; they contend because His Surname is Oludara and definitely must be a Nigerian. Chamillionaire is a Nigerian, his daddy is Yoruba from Egbaland in Ilugun asa-lu and his mother is Igbo of deltan/benin origin. While Nas’ daddy adopted the name (Oludara)to feel a sense of security about African root and have greater connection with it. The same thing goes to 2pac (Amaru Shakur) does not mean he was from Africa. They all just embraced Africa culture that was part of the movement in Harlem, NY to seek solace and have succours against white oppression in those days.
I don't care where you from as much as you black or fair skin, we are all Africans. In America, color is a barrier to what you can achieve in your life except if you do extraordinary to go beyond expectations either by scientific or sports breakthroughs. If you claim you are from other country and you want to stay on top of your game you are gone. See what they “The Game did” to Tony Yayo, if not for 50 cent that's so powerful behind him. Why? Because he's from Haiti. The same thing to Tyrese and Fat Joe(Puerto Rican). Black Americans won't care if you were born in America, they will call you illegal immigrants. I pray Charmillionaire off -the-chain again; because now he's got a lot of haters hanging on now since they hear his parents are both from Nigeria. They are not going to like him anymore except for some his die- hard fans.
Black Americans think they won the battle for freedom by themselves, they forgot that it was collective battle of the whole world. Especially, the black poets, writers and musicians in Africa; the likes of Fela Anikulapo, Desmond Tutu just to name a few. The other factor that helped them to win this battle is America precocious appetites to spread democracy, and every country its went, meant with rebellion. Chinese, Russians most because of communists and socialists criticized America the ways it treated its black folks.
Black Americans don’t have problems with Europeans, Chinese, Scandinavians and Mexico trooping into USA; but just don’t want any blacks around the world to compete for jobs in America.
Jackson 5 wants to build a resort center and slave museum in historic port of Badagry in Nigeria, the black Americans started crying and clamoring “ Hey Jackson 5 don’t do it, we ain’t know Africa for good” or are you crazy? They forget that blood is thicker than water and no true trace of heritage than its providence. Africa is their root and providence!
You see ruins in Greece on summer vacation; you spend billions of dollars to see great wall of China “where they point at you as inferior race;” you tour India temples where they view you as lowest slaves of Indian hierarchic pyramid and visit ancient Egyptian temples where they despise and detest anything blacks.
They claimed the ancient goddess “queen Nefertiti” and ancient black god “tutankhamun” are both whites now. Even, the former Egyptian president in 1974 ‘Anwar Sadat, despite his blackness claimed he was not black but Arab.
When I asked African Americans where would they like to visit, if they happened to travel abroad?, They would either tell you China, Rome, Greece and Egypt. Then, I would ask, why not Africa; they said Africa stinks. I think we need to start appreciating our heritage and Africa as our continent.
