In most forum software, when u wonno modify stuff, u have to add a reason for such modification. On the modified post everyone will get to see "last modified by Dual Core on 10:45pm Feb 13 2009; Reason: i just felt like doing it so buzz off and don't leave a trail, oh well the main reason is i already got a val for tomorrow so i'm canceling my request for an impromptu val"

Certainly not one of the best reasons to modify a post.

Point is, I don't see the "Modify" button's exit as a way forward, in any way.

It is delightful to note that democracy is preserved and freedom has prevailed.

Well done, Mr. Seun, good man!

Please bring back the button, abeg

esp for the food section.

What happens if we post a recipe with the wrong quantities or something and people poison themselves?

I believe 10-15 mins is more than enough time.

Some people are against it because they feel sad that other people enjoy the benefits, this is saddist attitude.

Now, as for the short timing, while i don't think it's the best idea for the MODIFY button to be timed, but if it must be, then i'll suggest that it should be timed for up to 24 hours. 5 or 10 minutes timing might be too short a time to realise error or to remember additional information.

Soon the reply button will be taken away at this point!

It makes sense to allow people to correct errors or even add addtional information to their post. Since the button has been removed have the spammers stopped?

NO!

Agreed.

Some forums have it that when you edit after a certain amount of time, it's shown under the post "so and so edited at this particular time"

I wonder and even if people go back to edit stuff. so what. Im quite sure NL isnt the only site with spam issues yet they dont end up taking such drastic measures.

I personally would like the "modify post" button reinstated.

It just makes the forum more flexible, though I'm not unduly concerned either way, it just means we have to be more careful in our posts, the spell checker is still in place after all.

Still, it would be a good idea to have a poll on the subject, those for and those against, it'll make interesting viewing.

do not bring the 'modify button' back.

Thank you.

It was removed because of spammers, but many people seem to like the change, hmm.

I still reckon the "modify post" button should remain.

The functions can still be overidden by the Admin, and a timer set.

This means a post made lets say 5 minutes ago can be modified, after 5 minutes have elapsed, then it can't be altered.

So, the time frames posts can be modified can be from any time till infinity, at the Admin's discretion.

to be candid, this is not logical. Imagine everyone making new posts just to correct grammatical errors in their initial post. The whole place would be a mess.

The 'modify button' should have long been removed since. What is the point of posting and going back to edit your posts? If you made a mistake with your earlier submission, make corrections to it in the following posts.

There have been numerous occasions and instances, where posts as far back two years ago, are still being modified by posters till when the modification button was removed. This in my view, does not add credence and consistency to the site. It makes it look like a child's play when posters, incessantly modify their posts, more importantly when corresponding posts by other posters do not tag along with the modified post from the original poster.

I clearly recall, there was a thread which I noticed, a poster made a topic with the body of content to the topic. Respondents to the topic, addressed the topic and it's body of content. The original poster to the topic, went back to modify the whole topic and the body of content, making it all confusing. This should not have been so, if there was a no ''modify button.''

It is an act of 'superior mental laziness' if posters continually have a recourse to keep modifying their posts. If a post is going to be modified, it should be subject to a moderator or the administrator of the site. The 'modify button' has been misused in several instances, and it should be removed.

My submission.
