How is poverty linked to brain capacity reduction?

Have you ever thought about the link between poverty and brain capacity reduction? Read the article and become aware of the latest news in the sphere.

BRAIN CAPACITY

Poverty is not a crime, but poverty still is a sin - so, at least, it is rooted in our social consciousness. The same thing is with laziness - like it is not a vice, but we should put it to the level of idleness and brain capacity.

Let's start with poverty.

So, according to numerous studies conducted by American scientists, people with lower socioeconomic status have a lower level of intelligence. This is due to genetic factors (parents with low rate of intelligence were not able to achieve a higher position in society), and also with the existence of environmental factors. Namely, people from the poor background often don't have the opportunity to receive higher education, since they were forced to start earning money very early. In addition, the environment, including poor neighborhood where they live, children, with whom they play, school, etc., provide them with more opportunities, development and education than the same factors for children belonging to a higher social-economic class.

That is, the environment factor, that has a great influence on the intellectual development. And still the perceived view that is unspeakably quick without a good intellectual background and education.

The situation is that upheavals have led to the fact that among the poor there were many, not only well educated, but also intellectually gifted people.

As a result, socio-economic status in our world is not as straightforward to predict the level of intelligence. Although we do have a lot of uneducated people, who have low intelligence among the poor people.

Stress also has a negative impact on the ability to abstract logical thinking, which is necessary for the formation and adoption of logical and simply more profitable decisions. When resources are scarce (literally nothing to eat), our brain focuses on solving the main task - to survive here and now, and will not waste energy on solving complex problems of theoretical physics. It requires a lot of energy (and it can suddenly end) and no obvious way leads to a speedy resolution of the main tasks - to get lunch.

BRAIN

Secondly, the representatives of the poor less-developed capacity much more tend to self-control. In modern psychology, self-understood is the ability to delay gratification till some time in order to achieve a certain goal. Self-control is very similar to that we call "will" in everyday speech.

The planned closure of the factors influencing poverty and laziness, I understand as a lack of self-control. The latter, by the way, depends on the level of intelligence, which may be insufficient for the poor people on the above reasons (specific environment, lack of education and poverty stress).

It is known that poor people are more likely to spend money on something that might be nice to and / or useful right now, like eating. In other words, they are more focused on the present and do not trust what they can expect in future. Uncertainty and insecurity of the situation - these are the features that are characteristic of poverty and, most likely, many are forced to choose the bird in the hand.

What to do?

Interestingly is that scientists for many years tracked the progress of these children. It turned out that those who could wait and keep the desire for the future, showed the best academic success, managed to build a successful career, etc. in comparison with "impatient" children. This suggests that the link between poverty and self-control has two points: poverty hinders the development of self-control, and lack of self-control contributes to the formation of poverty.

Moreover, parents in poor families often are not able to teach their children self-control - and not only because they can not have their own, and thus serve as a bad example. The fact that it is often the parents who do not have a sufficient amount of time on education, do not help children.

Another option - if the parents condoned in education and children develop themselves in a natural way. A "natural" way just requires immediate gratification, whereas self - artificial superstructure of human culture opposes natural impulses.

With regard to the lack of time for training, then the lack of money is quite often observed, because they have to work overtime to make ends meet. This work leads to poor health. And the children of poor families, who still have a high level of self-control and better performance in school. They have the worst health and even age goes faster than those children who don't suffer from brain capacity reduction!

The aforementioned facts result in an overactive organism at the molecular level, which, in turn, causes not only diseases, but also promotes more rapid aging.

By the way, examples of those around us are very important to our socialization and development. Poor children often watch the kids from similar families, and their experience shows that to achieve social success, climb up the social ladder is very hard. Such examples are few, they may be associated with any extraordinary abilities or with great assiduity, as we have seen, it is a double-edged sword. Needless to say, it does not add any confidence. In psychology, there is such a thing as self-efficacy - that is, belief in your own ability to achieve a certain result. It is formed including the monitoring of other people in similar to our circumstances situation. If self-efficacy is low, the probability of success is reduced.

Brain capacity

Let's summarize. Poverty and laziness actually link poor people, likely to be more lazy, lazy and have the potential to become poorer. Poverty and laziness are associated with lower mental abilities. These two phenomena, among other things, depend on such factors as the psychological ability to postpone gratification needs here and now in order to achieve any goal that promises a reward in the relatively distant future.

Poverty

If laziness can be understood as a momentary setback in self-control (to do the right job for the sake of watching entertainment TV shows, for example), then poverty reduction is associated with habitual self-control. Poverty and lack of resources are creating a specific unit in the perception and evaluation of reality and their own perspectives, so that the satisfaction of the needs is arising here and now, it seems more appropriate than working on their own future. In other words, it makes the focus on the present instead of the future, which prevents the correct forecasting and planning of their actions. Poverty is linked to lack of faith in their own strength, that is largely due to the lack of successful examples to overcome this disaster in their own social group.

Poverty – causes quite a lot of troubles in our reality, much more than laziness. Single and even periodic manifestation of laziness certainly will not make you poor. Yet the relationship between them really exists.
