Is My Therapist/councillor Right?

Your imagination holds the key to your future. What you think about today can turn into reality tomorrow. Now, however, the requirements of your daily life can be so demanding that there is little time left over for you to let your thoughts wander. No matter how busy you are, set aside time on a regular basis for meditation, prayers, or just daydreaming.

I am still a student and I am not in school because I had to work to save for Higher Institution. Though I am a dreamer and I carry out some of the thing I daydreamed about. Ever since he told me I kept pondering over and over his statement and now I am getting confused.

What should I do?

i am not interested in if she is right or wrong i am interested in the fact that he has a counsellor who is not practicing ethically.

i am not a philosopher. So what she said has no meanings to me.

basically u saying u saying the methods the counselor used is wrong not the advice itself, i don't think thats what the original poster asked for.

most counsellors work in a person centered way usually using Carl Rogers theory of self.

a counsellor should not give advice or tell a person what to think, if they do then it is unethical.

Other counsellors work in a humanistic way, where it is believed that every thing we do or say has a meaning.

but advice giving in counselling is not allowed, clients are suppose to work out their issues on their own with the counsellor as some one they can talk to about how they are feeling, the counsellor can then as certain question with would help the client to reflect, in doing so they should become more aware on their situation.

Well although the therapist mentioned a few things I personally would adhere to, I found the majority of what he/she stated to be rather unrealistic.

Am at work and have my hands fill, so I won't be able to expond right now, later,

what was wrong with what the therapist said?

although your imagination doesn't totally hold the key to your future, u can use it to shape your future. i totally agree with the remainder of the statement

Good advise is scarce and when it comes your way, grab it and run,

FIRE your therapist!!!

did a counsellor say that to you ?

if so i am shocked, because as a counsellor myself, that sounds like advice which counsellors do not do / should not do.
