How Do I Get Radio/air Play In Naija?

I'm an up and coming artiste and my style is very different from what is currently out there.

See my page for some examples: www.sonicbids.com/amaha AND www.myspace.com/ameliaakpotu

Thing is, I don't know how to go about getting airtime on radio stations across Nigeria and Africa because I am totally unfamiliar with how things are done but believe my music may be better suited to African audiences. Any one have a contact or an idea on how to go about getting airplay please let me know.

Thanks!

I wish you best of luck too. LOL. It's like we are in the same boat. All these brilliant ideas for marketing, a recording label et cetera et cetera but money no hold. LOL. I don't know many people in Naija that are involved in the music biz but it wouldn't hurt to speak to friends about it. They are resources too. No way no how, something mus click.

Iz2much, listen to my music too and let me know what you think.

Ciao guys!

That's exactly what i'm talkin' about there gurl real talk. U create awareness first! U just can't come from nowhere as an up-comer and demand for royalties. U gotta be in a company so that things are runned corporately between u (ur company/record label) and the radio station. What u shud be doing now is promoting ur brand the best way u can. If i have my way i run my thing like an organisation or a corporate entity i.e come out with a music/album, advertise it on radio so that my fans can know i'm out with a product/service. Then there'll be a demand for it, then the radio station can call me to talk business. That's when we discuss about royalties and all. I have all this brilliant ideas, a unique concept for marketing, i'd love to start up an indie record label and do my thing my way. I have it all planned out, just the capital aspect left. It already exist in my mind! It's like right now i'm in school, the street is teaching me and i can't wait to graduate. I'm telling u and every/anyone reading this because this is the way we ought to be thinking. A positive mind set that we can provide job opportunities and be boss of own lives. Forget about job securities and face ur own so that u can create time for the ones u love while ur doing what u love.

No, Orokcity don't have a site. It's just a concept for now. I figured if i can focus on my people i can make enough money to earn a decent living. Orokcity is coined from Orokamu a place in Ogbadigbo LGA of Benue state where i'm from. That's where i'm repping!

U gotta have a vision in life for ur life to have a meaning. Me, my vision is to make my people see the importance of education. To liberate them from poverty. To make them know that they can do better than working as security guards, cleaners, selling akara, yam and potato on the road side etc. To make them see that they can be Accountants, Lawyers, Doctors, etc. They can be people achieving greatness. That's what i represent, that's the concept Orokcity! You can listen to my music at www.showcaseyourmusic.com/fjay to listen to my music.

I wish u the best of luck!

Hi Omoovie, first of all I enjoyed listening to your song. You've got great potentials. I like ur style, it's quite unique. My name is FJ Friday Joseph. I'm from Benue state and i'm an Orokcity representer. I have some tricks I think might help get you airplay on radio. I have used it and they work like magic. Getting airplay on radio isn't a big deal. First of all, do all u can to get close to any of the radio personalities or DJs. Use your people skills to build a good relationship with them (if u ain't got people skills go read "Winning with people" by John C. Maxwell). Let them know what u do and what u hope to achieve and what's in for them if they could help u achieve ur goal. Don't be afraid to speak be assertive. They're the best people to advise you. Moreso, always remember there's no second chance to make a first impression. You've got to package your Demo/CD well, do something unique, captivating and interesting to catch their attention and make them want to listen to what is in your CD. If you can have them listen, you stand a chance of getting airplay. Remember, they get bombarded with tons of CDs everyday so they haven't got much time to listen to all of them. They only listen to those that catch their atention and make them wander what he/she sounds like. As for me, i'm done with trying to get airplay on radio. What i'm tryna do now is find out how do I get paid from radio stations playing my songs? (Royalties) I can personally help if u want me to. U can call me on 0808-809-7763. Goodluck!
