Can Assassination Be Justified?

Where the objective cannot be accomplished peacefully? Like in the case of a dictator or cabal who refuse to relinquish power? example Mugabe, Baby doc or Abacha? What are your opinions on this? I believe there may be special circumstances where assassination maybe a very necessary tool, don't get me wrong I'm not calling for wanton murder of civilians here.

non violent revolution like the cedar revolution and orange revolution in lebanon and ukraine respectively is very much possible in african countries. violent revolutions is a just way for african warlords to split turf. assassination is recommended if all other options have failed. it would nice to see an AU force take out mugabe if he doesn't abide by the election.

@Sky Blue, You have to understand that what you state above would wonderful in an ideal world situation but decade after decade, it seems that the message we continue to get from Africa is that progress for themselves, a need for change does not seem to be top on priority. I say this because even to this day, it seems people still choose to settle for less than best and have a non-chalant approach to change. In an ideal case, a revolution would be what would follow Mugabe's outright refusal to follow law in Zimbabwe, but from experience, I will not suprised if that man continues for another year or more as president of Zimbabwe. We have seen this trend over and over in near history in Africa. From north Africa to southern african countries, instead of demanding justice and respect, we have instead seen a passive response to these criminals and their criminal ways.

My point is, even if Africans are not willing to do it for self, since we have overwhelming evidence of this, at least it is time to do it to save face in the world considering the global move and the latest trends in the world today.

I definitely agree that genuine development and change will come when we know and realize that it is for our own good and not cause we are embarassed. You and I know that and definitely agree on that BUT that does not seem to be the situation for most of Africa. So if the fight is at least done to save face, it might actually work out finally.

@Kobojunkie, won't it be more valuable for Africans to fight their battles for our own good as opposed to, for 'saving face' and because the world is watching? I rather Zimbabweans stood up for themselves because they peronally are ready for a change and have had enough, than because they are tired of being embarassed or viewed a certain way by the world. Won't it be more meaningful then? Probably sounds like me picking something out of nothing, but genuine development and change will come when we know and realise that it is for our own good and not just because we are embarassed, which is what i think and hope is going to happen in Zimbabwe. As for Nigeria? lol

@Poster, I definitely believe that assasinations, by the right people, may be justified. I would not apply this to Mugabe's case at all as I believe this is an opportunity for african's to prove they are able to fight for their own right, as the world is watching to see what will become of this. Assasinating him, will not do much to show the world that africa is ready to join the global game neither will sitting back and allowing him continue as president or in leadership role in that country.

What are you calling for then? Is Mugabe a military personnel? Even if he was, how is his assassination going to help?

Africans are slowly coming to their senses and things are working out gradually. Mugabe will soon be out.

If Africans cant collectively stage a revolution and have their will be done in unison, then they should just do it slowly as they are doing it now or just shut up and pray as usual.

As for assassination; it's cowardly as anybody can shoot from any where for all the wrong reasons. It also ends up bringing in another beast on board.
