Can Jonathan Goodluck Deliver?

Now that Jonathan Goodluck is the acting president, the only question that goes through my mind is can he deliver on the 7 point agenda even if given a chance of a 4 year term.

AN OPEN LETTER TO MR JONATHAN GOODLUCK:

Sir, welcome to ultimate executive authority.

You will know, better than I, how broken this society is. Our infrastructure has collapsed. Our politics is in disarray. Our vision is beclouded. Our young are in flight. Our reputation is tarnished. Still, there remains this chance - albeit slim - to reinvent - to rebuild - to reestablish. This nation of spirited, hardworking and driven individuals, yearns for good strong and visionary leadership. We are desperate for men of courage and compassion, of learning and breeding, of ears and eyes, to take this land from a place of rot to the land of promise.

I plead with you Mr. President, to hearken to the pleas that you know so well.  Neither play mute nor dictate. Simply reach out and connect. Listen. Extend yourself. Build a bridge - from the centre of the State House to the hearts of the people in whose name you serve. Above all, as you look to govern this broken nation, I urge you to be activist and engaging. Do not abandon Nigeria and Nigerians. Do not retreat into the comforts of Aso Villa - while millions languish in poverty and drift in ignorance. I besiege you to approach this extraordinary privilege that you have been afforded from 'the perspective of a sheriff in a western town where things are out of control.  You need to do the equivalent of walking into Main Street and shooting your gun up in the air a few times to establish that you're in charge - because right now, no one is in charge'.

Mr. President (and I reject the appellation of 'Acting' because this is real time - no acting), our nation is in drift. It has been for close to three years, some might say three decades. In symbolic measure, through words and deed, rescue our polity, alter our political discuss, restore 2infrastructure, hire the competent, promote the committed - and send a loud message to the world 'THAT WE CAN TOO' - Remi Okunlola.

RETHINK NIGERIA

If they allow him to do the work he will deliver.

I'm sure i will want to be elected base on its anticidence in this few months.

But it is only God that can save us from this cabal that is ruling us. they dictate n cut the short.

for yaradua i think it is embarassing for the NASS rep not to see him. coming back soon may be far from it.

It's always been my understanding that a presidency can only exist in a true democracy - what one finds in Nigeria is not democracy, but pure political theatre. Still, I understand the necessity of the word in the absence of a more acceptable title, so I'll make do, with quotes.

Can "President" Goodluck deliver on the 7 Point Agenda? The plan is, in itself, laughable, as it is less a political and more a dumbed-down social agenda. It's not about policy change so much as a need to meet the BARE MINIMUM standards that go into a FUNCTIONING society. Really basic stuff, and most political science majors would understand this by the end of their freshman year -- while politicians twice their age regard these things as advanced political measures. The "7 Point Agenda" isn't inherently difficult, as it basically entails bringing Nigeria into the 21st century. And policy is EXTREMELY easy to push in a kleptocracy (masquerading as a democracy) since you can just pay your way through.

I have no confidence in these people.

In regards to those who lead us , when are we going to start believing in solidly relevant considerations, like past performance and history of service delivery , instead of how we accept mediocrity and we then begin praying for God to turn a frog into a Prince !!!! The President and his VP , in a serious nation, should both  be individuals with proven and undoubted records of performance, service delivery and general effectiveness. Sadly a few individuals decided that Nigeria should do things differently to sane nations with how they foisted two distinctly average leaders on us as our President and Vice President.

The President has already shown inept and clueless leadership and I expect Jonathan , with time , to do the same.  Everyone should get involved to ensure we gain a progressive President in 2011 instead of having a cabal servant imposed on Nigeria whlie Nigerians are left to pray that the imposed leader comes good .

He may have a good heart to deliver, but until we run a govt that involves the public in its decisions and action. there will still be issues as to deliverables.

how do you understand the needs of someone u are in no relationtionship with?

if there is anyone close to the to-be president tell him, at a time like this we need his 'political will' to make things happen.

Yes he can, if he wants to and much more if he surrounds himself with people who are ready to make things happen, for their children and their children's children. as for me i am battling with losing hope in this country- cos everytime i read somehing it is like reading about a coutry far away like Haiti, and not a country where i sleep and wake everyday.

My fingers are crossed. Although,

Goodluck Jonathan is just a lucky man as his name implies. You see, the major problem with Nigeria is not the presidency. Think of it. If we have good and effective governors, Nigeria will be ok. All the president need to do is to set a good example. However, what we should be thinking is not whether Goodluck will deliver well or well will deliver Goodluck. We should pray and fast for the division of this country. How I wish Goodluck Jonathan will disorganize this nation and bring disintegaration.

This is what we always do. Hilary Clinton got it right when she stated that Nigerian leaders can do what is right but they prefer not to. She should have added that this is because most Nigerian leaders are loyal to various 'influence groups' and cabals whose interests happen to be inimical to those of Nigeria and Nigerians. Jonathan was never his own man and I doubt that he can suddenly become consumed with a desire to take on the various cabals holding Nigeria back in the little time he will have in charge.

We have nothing to go on other than what we have seen from Jonathan in the past. Anything else is wishful thinking. To that effect, and until proven otherwise , we must conclude it is highly likely that Jonathan will be nothing more than an unspectacular stop-gap.

We do this to ourselves in Nigeria time and time again. We accept mediocre impositions (like Yar Adua and Jonathan) and then begin trying to convince ourselves a miracles is about to happen. Jonathan fans on Nairaland have not stopped speaking as if the Messiah is here when their hero is actually an uninspiring character with nil history of leadership dynamism.

Nigerians should look beyond Jonathan to focus on who will be our President in 2011. We must get it right.

Is Quite unfortunate that our sick presidenet doest want to resign and concentrate on his health situation, i think Obasanjo got all this worked up and knows it will result to this, The Notion that the presidecy sit of Nigerians belongs to the Northern part of the country is fast becoming a folk tales, well that the way it suppose to be.Now the southern has the position for a while and i wonder how long is going to last because those co-called Northern Politicans will not side back and watch the senero, There something wrong somewhere,

No body want co-called yaradua dead. But he should humbly resign so that his fate wont be like Abacha, (Black man, dey fins strong thing first)

I wonder the mentality of some Nigerians out there in the government,

The matter good luck delivering depends on the amount of co-operation he can get,

2011 election is at the corner, only God knows what will happen to the fate of this fragile Nation, make we dey sidon look,

Honestly, I think he has a vision for this country (at least he has seen first hand the degree of rot that exists in the FG - Aondaokaa and Co.)and he will likely carry it out. What I don't know is if those who push for this demonic South-North Presidential rotation system which robs us of our fundamental voting rights will allow him.

I say this because in Nigeria, even if you have done the best, the other region will always tell you that its their turn and this is one of our greatest problem.

I think he's a male, so he probably won't be delivering anytime soon as that is biologically impossible.
