Has Dora Akunyili Lost Her Integrity?

http://www.independentngonline.com/oped/article01

Dora Akunyili Is A Confused Pretender

During a condolence visit to Gani Fawehinmi she repeatedly repeatedly called the great man Fayemi !!!! Obviously she was such a major player in the blatant election rigging in Ekiti to the extent that she cannot get the name Fayemi out of her head !!! Kayode Fayemi is the AC gubernatorial candidate cheated out of his mandate in the recently concluded Ekiti 'heist' !!!!  She is shameless and no different to all the undemocratic thieves destroying Nigeria. This woman insulted Gani Fawehinmi and all her supporters should bow their head in shame at this unforgivable gaffe that exposes how shallow and lacking in substance Akunyili really is. She is a deceitful empty barrel.

I dont want to blame the innocent woman. Maybe she just lately realised that doing good work in nigeria is waste of time. After someone has done a good work an will be brought in to destroy it. There is nothing like continuation of good dids in nigeria unless evil. If you cant beat them, join them at least for now untill when the real clean up will come.

and Akunyili's Senior aid resigns his Job . He has gone back to his former base of Washington DC. Even as it appears he may not have a new job lined up this chap probably felt that the need to get out was non-negotiable. No reason is given for his departure at the moment but I am sure we will hear from him in the near future.

Indeed . Ken Nnamani (former Senate President) virtually banished himself into Nigeria's political wilderness with how he stood against OBJ's third term ambitions. He knew the repercussion of taking on the 'Godfathers' but he proceeded regardless . He will always have my respect for that.

He may be largely ignored and irrelevant today but any good Government of the future will bring him 'in from the cold' because Nigeria is short of his type of integrity that may be self-destructive yet nationally beneficial . The likes of Akunyili will be booted out by any progressive Government that only want men and women of integrity.
Stop the Ghana bashing, please

SIR: I am compelled to write to express serious concern about a couple of statements by some top Nigerian officials about Ghana in recent weeks. Last month, Defence Minister Godwin Abbe was quoted as saying, "the volume of water generated in Ghana is not enough to flush toilets in Lagos State, the number of teachers you have to pay salaries in the whole of Ghana is not more than Western Nigeria so that is that. And the whole of Ghanaian Armed Forces, if you choose to know, is not more than just two brigades of the Nigerian Armed Forces, period."

Only last weekend, Education Minister Sam Egwu was on national radio talking about the ongoing ASUU strike, and he made the most ridiculous assertion that all the university lecturers in Ghana will not be adequate for a single university in Nigeria! This is a blatant falsehood. Anyone who had been to the University of Ghana Legon (with a student population of more than 40,000), can testify to the fact that probably no university in Nigeria has more space and facilities than Legon. And there are at least five more public universities in Ghana. There are also a dozen privately-owned universities in Ghana, offering quality education to Ghanaians and foreigners alike, including a growing number of Nigerians.

And in the case of the defence minister, we do not know where he got his information from regarding the current strength of the Ghana armed forces. Needless to say that the Ghanaian military is one of the best trained on the continent and had performed exceptionally well in various international assignments. The entire first generation of Nigerian military officers, including Generals Olusegun Obasanjo, Hassan Katsina and Adebayo were all trained in Ghana. Ghanaian army generals have commanded UN troops in Lebanon, Liberia, Rwanda, Darfur, etc over the years.

Information Minister Dora Akunyili also told a local television network at the end of August that the whole of Ghana is not even up to the size of Lagos! Even a child in kindergarten knows that to be untrue. Government officials, unlike private citizens, traditionally tend to be circumspect about what they say about other countries. Ghana is smaller than Nigeria, and I reckon everyone knows that as a fact. And it is certainly not the only country in the world that is smaller than Nigeria. Or is it? Or have Nigerian government officials only suddenly realised how 'small' Ghana is?

Our concern really is that such reckless and unguarded comments could have grave implications for bilateral relations and derail efforts by leaders of the two countries to forge strong bilateral ties. We think President Umaru Yar'Adua should call his ministers to order. The Ghana bashing must stop! Ghana is a well-respected member of the international community, and deserves respect from Nigerians, particularly top government officials.

Our distinguished minister of (Dis)information is not even as knowledgeable as a child in kindergarten.

Dora is a big time sycophant. She is like any other Politician. I think with this her rebranding noise, she's losing more of the intergrity she built as NAFDAC Boss.

The FG did not tie her there with a rope. If she did not want it she can resign. Ngozi resigned when she could not cope. It is always very good to keep your integrity intact in whatever you do. Its not easy in this nigerian climate, i agree, but those who do it elsewhere don't have 9 heads.

She should have stayed in New York, it's not like she hasn't got anyother jobs she can be doing instead of patronising Nigerian's.

Well I've not seen the bad aspect that required u people calling her bad names.

But if at all her image is been tanished, i will state here categorically that

The federal Government has planned it, by giving her a post out of her profession.

That they (The federal government) will not want people to single her out of their selfish interests

thereby including her in matters that can ruin her integrity and prestige.

the hardworking woman is not to blame, cos from onset we all witnessed that she takes nothing for granted

During her tenure as NAFDAC Chief, she refused loads and loads of bribe, she always stand firm in her authority,

Nothing good comes from the federal government office

once you enter there you will be inflicted with that disease knowingly or unknowingly.

I bet that this woman knows what to do, but she's been engineered

by the Evil top men in the federal government.

.

I want to agree with this speaker, she was purposely put where she is so she will mess up.Besides except you have the grace of God there is no way you can be there and not be influenced one way or the other. So many will temp you

I am appalled when some of my Igbo brothers here tries to defend Dora because She's Igbo. For Goodness sake, Dora is Nigeria's information minister and not just an ordinary Igbo person. I can pardon any other "uninformed" Igbo person but not an Information Minister. Gani is a well known person across the length and breadth of this country. I was a very small kid when I knew Gani. So lets remove all tribal sentiments. Dora is an information minister and has all her lieutenants who can give her the correct information if she doesn't know. As someone rightly mentioned, if after pronouncing Gani's name wrongly and a foreign media starts to quote the same name, afterall its coming from our information minister.

So being Igbo or not is out of the question. Yes, she's my sister but I will never support her when she's wrong. And right now, she's on the wrong path.

yes. i indeed saw it coming the moment she accepted that ministerial post.

one thought just came to me: she has been bitten by the greediness malaise.

having stayed at nafdac for so long, she was hungry for greener pastures and

saw the ministerial job as her one last ditch opportunity to hit it big, so she grabbed

it with both hands. now, she'll do anything to keep that job. what a shame!

I was really shocked when she came to Gani's Lying in state and they told her she couldnt drive through a narrow path leading to the entrance,  Dora the Hitlar apparently refused to come down from her white Jeep until his Men in Black broke the baricade that all the Nigerian Commisioners, Ministers and service chiefs didnt break. All the dignitaries that came, including the Governors and Ex Presidents had to come down from their vehicle and walk to the entrance but Almighty Dora refused to come down and indirectly caught the attention of the Over 100 Lawyers and dignitaries present at the Wake keeping,  And this is How she wants to Rebrand Nigeria,  Shame on Her

From the day she took that appointment, I have quietly been waiting for a day like ds when her intergrity will be put to question. I think he should take the high road like Ngozi Iweala did, maybe she will be able to salvage the "remains" of her reputation.

Really she has failed her family and Nigerians. As her fan,i am perturb about her insecerity and her condescending to the level of a goon and puppet in the hands of the PDP cohorts. I suppose she is a technocrat who is suppose to be impartial but she has contracted the syndrom bedevling nigeria politicians whose conscence and integrity have been thrown into the lagoon such that injustice has become their venture. Well i will say that Dora should be given second chance to turn a new leaf and if she remains adamant we will have to jettison and decant her like a piece of broken glass

0

Dora has actually failed her family and Nigerians. Her integrity is now questionable. Though she did well in NAFDAC but she has contracted the syndrom that is bedevling Nigeria politicians. All her show down are messy and she should be lampooned to see if she could turn a new leaf but if she remains adamant i am sure she will be in the bad record of Nigerians.Let us give her chance and wait and see if she will be remorseful of her actions before we castigate her. I still remain her fan

0

Precisely !!! We cannot declare a perpetual moratorium against the criticism of Akunyili because of her work at NAFDAC when , by her recent actions , she has shown she is no better than all those who have impeded our development.

It is obvious we deserve the misrule being perpetrated against us because not one of Akunyili's apologists has tackled the issue of her open and undisguised endorsement of election rigging.

For how badly Yar Adua has led Nigeria there will still be many Northerners willing to defend him to the grave because he is their 'brother'. Nigeria has no future if we are all only able to see it with ethnic goggles.

0

Here we go again. I am not Nigeria's information Minister for Christ sake !!! If I was I would employ the services of an Igbo person to teach me how to pronounce your name - especially if I will be using it in Public .

Furthermore your illogical and tribalistically biased excuse for Akunyili makes no sense because , by your reasoning, you suggest it is okay for Nigerians not to Know how to pronounce Obama because it is a Kenyan name despite how we have all heard it pronounced a million times !!!! Ridiculous !!! Which American , wether they are from Arkansas or Texas, will pronounce Obama as Abimu?

You are all just revealing your bigoted nature by saying an Igbo Information Minister should not be able to pronounce the name of one of Nigeria's greatest Icon. By your logic she should be Information Minister of Igboland instead of the Information Minister of Nigeria since she will make no effort to pronounce correctly names not from her region !!!

You guys should get real and stop seeing every issue from an angle of ethnicity.  Akunyili is messing up as a Nigerian . I am a Nigerian too and that permits me to speak against the misbehaviour of our leaders. Period.

0

get it right. nobody criticised her when she was at nafdac. the general opinion

then was that she was doing a great job. what we are saying is that going by what we

thought she represented at nafdac-a no nonsense woman always standing on the part

of right, we're surprised to see a sudden departure from that stance by all what has been

happening ever since she took up this ministerial post.

0
Avatar
Newbie

It's very easy to criticize but one certain fact is that all those saying negative things about dora would have perfomed worse if they were in her shoes both at nafdac and ministry of information and communications.nobody is perfect and the little mistakes she has made does not diminish her good works

0

@poster

You are silly.  If I tell you my Igbo name, can you pronounce it?

Why blame an Igbo woman for not being able to pronounce a yourba name?

0

don't be coarse. a woman nearing 50 and married with children could not have

been a virgin anymore.

0
Avatar

exactly! and this is what i find most appalling about the third world in general. there is

a dearth of truely principled people in government. in the USA and other advanced

conuntries, people resign their appointment when they can no longer agree with the

policies of the government which appointed them in the first place. here in the third world,

political appointees see it as a rule to defend such government to their death!

david mark, chukwumerijie, frank nweke jr, etc name them. this problem seems especially

more prevalent with so-called communication ministers.
