Is It Time To Invite Our Colonial Masters To Return?

Hello All,

I think it is time that we beg the while man to come back and show us how it is done in Nigeria? Everyday we hear stories of woe and the rich stealing more money. The standard of living is falling, economy in crisis, MEND threatening to blow the source of revenue within Nigeria if their demands are not met (even though we know that they are fighting for their own selfish interest, if not what have they done to their governor, chairmen and counsellors who collect revenue and squander it/or share it with MEND), OPC in Lagos are ranting, Secondary school strike everywhere in Nigeria and university lecturers are on strike too. What is functioning properly in Nigeria? Electricity, water, security are a thing of the past. But corruption and the PDP party is going strong?

Should we just beg our former colonial masters to come back, thing can not be worse than it is now?

What are your views

Hello,

Now we are all speaking with one voice, I think we need to put words into action and then start the crusade for change. If we do not help ourselves no one will help us. Please let’s stand shoulder to shoulder in look for ways in which we can help change the current plight.

Thank you jare

it's high time we start tackling our various state/federal representatives to be accountable to us.

Not just the governor, but the senators from Lagos seem to know how to handle the Federal Government than the others do. What we continue to get from senators and governors from other states are whines and more of the same old excuses for why they cannot seem to make any progress. Every single day, people continue to buy into their ridiculous excuses that the north or the federal government is the reason why they are unable to negotiate a deal of any kind with the same federal government that Lagos has since been able to make some progress with.

Not until we start to fire them left and right will they realize that we are no longer available to accept the same old nonsense from them as being good enough. You fire all of them and I bet you the next batch will do all they can to get a deal for their people or find a way to boot the president out so they can get better answers from the next one, or risk loosing their own jobs instead.

@poster -  Riduculous suggestion, even mordern day oyinbo man does not know what it means to own a colony, let alone taking over a whole country. Is it because 0.09% of the population have hyjacked the economy from the majority that some of us have lost our reasoning , the day of reckoning is coming when the masses will rise and take over. We might be force to take the law into our hands very soon.

@bariga1. I dont think you are aware of the significance of saying the white man should come back to fix things for us. Your idea is just a huge disaster and will finally conclude the white and black inequality debate. if africans should ever request the hands of the whites then this means an open admission of white supremacy over the blacks. this will further justify racial discrimination.

You know its our fault though. I'm tired of seeing Nigerians deny it.

The Philippines, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brazil, they were all colonies you know. Nigeria just keep sliding deeper and deeper into complete chaos and anarchy while Nigerians continue to blame the brits and lugard for all their problems.

poo, I wonder why Ghana is lifting itself up while Nigeria,

you know what, i give up,

The major problem with this geographical entity is that there has never been a true nation called Nigeria. The leaders right from the so called independence are busy continuing plundering the resources from where the British stopped. The day the nation Nigeria will be born is the day every ethnic nationality give up their sovereignty for a true united nation. Where there is a true fiscal federalism, each state or region allowed to take control of what is at their backyard, develop at their own pace and subsequently pay remittances to the central government. Running off to another man's land and joblessly sitting in front of a yet to be fully paid computer and calling on the British plunderers to come and continue from where they stopped is the height of irresponsibility. Let us be sincere to ourselves and what we truly want and our problem is half solved.

Nigeria is so bleeped. When people go to western countries they take for granted what Nigerians can only ever dream of, 24 hour power supply, clean tap water 24 hours a day, sanitation, sewers, a police force that works - at least somewhat, and some form of partially reliable healthcare.

Nigeria has none of those.

We've got committees, lots of them. And for some reason we're more fixated with useless things like having foreign language (Arab) written on our banknotes, or who's sultan was forced to stand in line, or our endless obsession with religion, (god this, god that, but god don't give a fxck about you, you gotta do it urself ain't no god going to bring you drinking water), and tribalism, endless amounts of it.

Fvck Nigeria. I guess its time to jump off this sinking ship, or, actually I mean swim away from this sunk ship.

After Abacha Molested her, Obasanjo but a bullet through her. She's lying there on the side of the road, all fvked up. I guess if the Europeans wanna give a shot reviving her, well they can be my guest.

poo, the British can have her, we don't want her.

Most nigerians see nigeria as an enterprise to make money from and not a country to build and serve because there is no feeling of nationhood amongst its people

If this mindset is not changed forget nigeria.

bariga has a point

the MTR subway in hong kong is leased to a UK based company

different aspects of utilities are leased to various companies.

Take telecommunication in Nigeria for instance. Nitel kept messing people up till the govt gave licences to foriegn firms. everybody now owns a phone and communication is now easy.

i believe our government should lease out our railway, and water and electricity to competent foreign firms who will manage them and pay our government just like the telecomms sector.

Believe me, we'll see great change.

Too bad the "educated fools" don't realize these things. Its like the first round of colonization where Africans were mere gate men to the university was not enough we need another one. When people are allowed to realize that photocopy is not the best answer it might make sense that bringing the white man to teach them only ABC and not how to read is not the answer. Instead of employing the beneficial system of using what you have people would chase the bandwagon to be "civilized according to what the white man calls civilization. So rote memorization instead of understanding and innovation.

All I know is whatever the British have in their water that is making Nigerians think that the only mechanism of progress is under white man, that thing is very potent.

Mrs Great debator, it seems you lack tact in your favorite activity. Before you insult your person, who exactly would the poster actively call for colonization? Does she or you have a white leader lined up to beckon? I realize you have your nose so high up the white man's anus that you can't put that self sentiment aside for one second. What is "umbeweavable" and something worth "LMAO" is the fact that the only options, apart from trumpeting that (we) Nigerians should do something while comfortably sitting in the front of a computer in some Western country, is the idea that white rule will save Nigeria. Played pet enough that the white man might make you their errand girl?

The best way to run your house when it is in great disrepair is to ask another person to move in and take charge! Great idea, according to the Great Debator.

@savanaha. Thank God for people like you.

I have come in here and walked right out several times.

This thread is so disheartening in the way people reason.

Nigeria's biggest problem is that we don't look within ourselves and at our environment for solutions to our problems.

We always feel a need to copy other countries; forgeting they have created their solutions according to their own peculiar cultures and traditions. Anyone who doesn't have those peculiarities and attempts copying is doomed to fail. . . We have been doing that in a never ending cycle.

When we're not copying, we are importing expertriates (most of whom are mere technicians and in some case plumbers or carpenters). We don't believe that there are any Nigerians intelligent and organised enough to solve our problems. The smart and good ones are always discouraged; "if oyibo never do am, why you think say you fit?". So people are even suggesting that we bring back white people to exploit us again.

Check China, they don't copy anybody, yet they have risen to become the Worlds most powerful economy. Everything China does is rooted in their culture, so things are done in a natural setting, making their solutions easy and succeessful 99% of the time.

Every copy is the counterfeit of the real thing. Nigeria has copied so many countries that we are a counterfeit of God alone knows what. . . And the copying continues.

Learn to read before jumping to attack. The @Poster has yet to actively call for colonization but is simply trying to bring your attention to the fact that things are failing fast and it does not seem that we have been able to show ourselves better post -colonization.

This is one of the major reasons why I ignore people who have little control over their sentiments. Can you not put SELF to the side for one second to see and understand what is being discussed? UNBEWEAVABLE!!!

Great Debators, areother Nigerians living as slaves to whites is a much better solution for the problem? How many of those advocating for Nigerians to move back and better things have moved back? Have you moved back? What does Faux (Fox) News tell you about the white man and Nigeria?

0
Avatar

roflmao!!! Nevermind that the over 140 million Nigerians have been living as slaves to leaders in Nigeria, it is only when all Nigerians abroad move back to Nigeria will things get better. Or, let me guess, the white man is reason why Nigerians live like slaves in their own land today?

Emancipate yourself, first by moving out of England. It seems like most if not all the Nigerian people I have ever heard advocate for whites to come back to rule Nigeria have lived in England for a long time. Is there something in the Bristish water that makes blacks. . . I guess Nigerians worship the white man?

If the white man comes back to rule Nigeria, how many advocates of this would be willing to come back to Nigeria and be made a slave or will you demand respect because you lived in England and kissed Bottom? The whites looted and stole from Africa (and everywhere else they colonized) the only thing is that while stealing they were able to persuade blacks like the original poster that were inferior and thus deserved to be beaten to work whilest the white man relaxed and had a lemonade.

Same way James Watson claims that blacks are less intelligent than every other race. What made him so well versed on intelligence? The fact that he stole someone else's work and got rewarded with a Nobel Prize in Science.

Whites fool those that are gullible and want to be fooled.

Ikeyman,

It is easy to talk big English on your armchair in UK CHOPPING THE WHITE MANS BURGER AND CHIPS, come home and enjoy suffer-head like I am doing. Nothing constructive or objective on the way forward. Do you have even an idea of the level of suffering here? You said that allow decent people to rule Nigeria.   You think these thieves in politics will give an intelligent person with a vision a chance to rule? Wake up from your slumber. We need something urgent to happen which will shake Nigerians and they will know that it is a new dawn for Nigeria.

Forget God for now and talk objectively about the way forward "God helps those who help themselves – if God has not deemed it fit to kill all those that are stealing billons daily I see no reason why he will complain if the White man comes back.

There is Smoke in the sky everywhere, roads dirty, cutters are dirty and smelling and when you ask people they laugh and say “that is Nigeria for you, God will save us one day” listen even Satan will be scared to come close to Nigeria in it’s current state. Light came for ten minutes and then went, when it came people were shouting that light has come, as if they do not pay for it.

Please read what I have written all along before you talk, please do not talk for the sake of it. I could come and stay in a hotel for the three weeks that i am here and then go back, but i have chosen to stay i nthe heart of Bariga Akinola street and i am seeing the suffering of my fellowbrothers and sisters. These people need help fast, what have you got to help i have stated my idea what is yours no God approach!!!

By the way the Inspector General of Police said Radio this morning that the Bank owes his wife 250 million dollars and the case is in court (bros!!! define colonial master - please make u know allow me make i do you strong thing with the talk wa you dey talk this morning Ikeyman).

There we go again!!! someone starts with “God will one day help Nigeria out of it’s problems”  show me one country that God has physically come to safe. Cut out the fantasy and face the reality on the ground. What greater colonialism can Nigeria get than we are currently getting? Look at the way Nigerians treat drivers, cooks and wash men? Who pays the minimum wage? See how police treat we that do not know people in power? See the life that our senators and chairmen in power live, is that not colonialism. Please shine your eye well!!! well !!!!

I know that because I am a lady people tend to dismiss my suggestions but please be creative and provide alternatives. If you are picking crumbs from the table of the politicians you willadamantly disagree with me about the white man coming back. But put sentiments aside, and have a look at the reality on the ground. Regardless of what we write the government has realised the urgency in the need for Oyinbo’s to return that is why the governor of central bank has now stated that he is in support of western banks buying and getting involved in mergers and acquisition.

Nigerians will continue to suffer as long as we keep running from the truth. It is easy to dismiss my idea but what is the alternative to this? Which country has got it right in Africa, I will say South Africa and it is not surely ANC that built that country to the stage that it is today. I respect Mandela who stated after his return from prison that “we need these white people to teach us how things are done and how to develop”. Maybe we need to lease the country to them for twenty years (listen things can not be any worse than it is right now) and then we assess the situation at the end of lease. The condition that will come with the lease is that Nigerians most be shown how things are done.

Listen thirty years down the line we will still be complaining if we do not let these people come back. The son’s of our former leaders are getting ready to take over power, not b/c they know what to do but because it is their birthright, yes I say birthright regardless of if they have an idea how things are done. We hear of huge sums being stolen and we say “only God will save Nigeria” As long as Nigerians are ruling Nigeria, even God knows that there is no hope.

I am compiling a list of signatures of those who are begging for the white man to please come back and safe us from this suffering as soon as i get back, this suffering is too much. How much more can we take of this suffering, please stop waiting for God b/c he will not come in your life time.

Nothing seems to work I am currently in Nigeria as I write and there is no light, water, roads or security and you say the white man will exploit us, of what? We must be mad to think this way.

The resources we do not see in the first place it goes straight into the hands of a few.

The alternative is revolution, but it is the son’s and daughters of these same corrupt people that come back to take over power or become back seat drivers of the affairs of this country.

I left this country 10 years ago and back for the first time and can not believe the level of degeneration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rest my case.

The trade relationship between the british empire and it's colonies were unfair.

Our university graduate were trained to be clerical staff and work under white heads rather than become administrators some day.

The British left power vacuums (they never trained black replacements) in countries like Nigeria. They are part of the problem and not the solution.

different policies for the North and South didn't help either.

Ezeagu - Excellent Response.

For the rest of you who want the colonialists back please get some backbone. Between the IMF, World Bank, Swiss Banks, Shell , Total, BP, Pharmaceuticals and other multinationals, the colonial powers that you are crying for never really left. This is a more convenient arrangement where our collaborator errand boys and girls do their bidding.

The only ones benefitting from this arrangement are the traitor collaborators and the multinationals.

Strangleyo - The British invented the system of patronage.

Every time I think of most colonial nations I think of the crap Europeans have done to Africans.

However, the British aren't really "European" and their colonial model was not bad. Sadly, they were still selfish, but they helped us far more than you can imagine. In a way we were lucky it was the British and not the dutch, or Belgians.

Want to see a modern day colony? Look nowhere than Hong Kong. It was run by a British Governor until 1996. I can almost guarantee that if Nigeria was a colony of the UK, ran by a  British governor, it would look like Japan today, almost guaranteed. Our population density would allow the British to apply their highly successfull economic model.

However, is that what we want? To be run by the white man?

I think if the British had the the time to break our tradition of patronage we would have been a world superpower today (not African, WORLD superpower, with nukes, tanks, etc).

Although being run by the white man may simply be unbearable for our pride (and we are the proudest people in Africa).

With that, I'm going to quote a passage from a book by a British governor on the state of Northern Nigeria in the early part of the 20th century,

From the Book "Nigeria, Our Latest Protectorate" - written by Charles Henry Robinson.
