Is Mend Attack In Lagos An Ijaw Versus Yoruba War?

I got the excerpt below from a yahoo chat group. What do you think?

''The unprovoked and unwarranted attack on a Lagos jetty by the MEND has lost it the sympathy of a people who felt the Niger-deltans were being unfairly treated in regard to their God given natural resource of oil.

>

> The MEND people should be reminded that it is ABUJA and not Lagos, that was built with oil money from scratch.

> The seat of government is no longer Lagos, but Abuja. Lagos is controlled by AC, which is not the party in Federal power.

>

> This is a clear case of  misdirected anger, which the MEND should have learnt from the history of the Nigerian civil war.

> It is an attack on "innocent bystanders" who do not make policy affecting the people on whose behalf MEND claims to be agitating.

>

> In view and by reason  of this attack, all interests of MEND should become targets of legitmate, swift and assured

> retribution.  MEND HAS SOWN THE WIND, IT MUST NOW REAP THE WHIRL WIND.''

Then this reply:

''Yoruba people should keep mute. Lagos is a Nigerian state and city that accommodates every Nigerian tribe. The bombing of Lagos by Mend is not the BOMBING of Yoruba people. Aint Yoruba people ashame and silly to always claim Lagos to be a Yoruba Affair ? Didnt the millions of Yorubas in Lagos Migrate from interior Yoruba land such as Ogun, Ondo, Oyo and even Kwara. Do Yoruba people even know that the word APAPA as in APAPA WARF IS AN IJAW WORD meaning Ground nut warf ? Dont Yoruba people know that Lagos riverine areas have strong Ijaw historical characteritics. ? It so beats my heart to even read Yoruba people from Kwara making noise any thing Lagos is mentioned or affected, Let them wait till Ibadan is bombed before any yoruba should even make any noise. LAGOS IS A NIGERIAN CITY mainly built by IGBOS.''

Blacksta.

Now I believe you did not attend a school or you did so poorly. If you cannot differentiate between what I said and what was quoted from the chat group I lifted the post from, then it speaks volume about your educational worth. Like I said earlier, go back to school. You suck

Dear Friend  - I have no beef with any tribe in Nigeria - God forbid.  but sometimes this poster called Ijawman does my head In -

I was only refering to the above statement -  I failed to find the correlation between the topic , Mend, Igbos and Lagos

i could find a link btw  Topic , Mend and Lagos and but Ijawman purposely threw In " Igbo " to generally upset everybody.

@blacksta,

i love u and i respect ur knowledge and understanding. i can't fix somethings here. u are not interested in the attack. u are not interested in the poster and u are not even interested in the implications of the thread topic rather u are interested in the igbos.

since the interest here is on useless issue, can i ask this, why is it that the yorubas are always afraid to fight? with what just happened, one will expect the yorubas to respond by tracking the ppl behind the said attack but as fearful as they are, u will wake up tomorrow to say an igbo man laughed  and that will be problem.

MEND will BOMB sense into their heads, so don't worry. Stupidity needs violence to drive it out.

Members of the theiving group will be pleased that the Nigerian masses are too short sighted to notice their real enemies and would fight like two dogs in a dogfight instead of teaming up and charging at the crowd making bets on them.

It would be a good sight if all the downtrodden join MEND and demand for their rights but many who live in a phantom sense of supremacy and bigotry will never see beyond their noses. What do we expect when most of them haven't lived anywhere else besides their villages and comfort zones.

Maybe MEND should have sought for alliances before deciding to go alone into a new territory and prevent this situation where their actions have had tribal undertones read into it.

@Asha80, lol. . . I want to believe you are just having fun on NL.

I'll tell you why they havent. MEND's "zone of influence" on the pipeline is limited to the creeks. If they blow it up there, it will also affect supply to the South and not only the North. Not that they care anyway, but I guess they have not worked it out to a postive expectation yet.

In order to cut supply to the North, they need to blow up the pipeline after the Master Isolation valve so that the inlet part of the pipeline (up to a number of miles) could still be wet while supply is cut off from the North.

No

If there is one like that then it is a case of "one at a time"

And what it their goal if I may ask Sir?

0

They blew up the line supplying raw crude-oil to Kaduna refinery and not the one supplying imported refined products to the North.

BTW, asha80=ijawman?, just curious.

If you ask to yorubas to pick either MEND and the north. Yorubas would prefer MEND over the north. So we love MEND.

How is an attack on a oil installation in Lagos equal to an attack on Yoruba?

When did MEND become an Ijaw Army?

Does anybody own Nigeria really. Because I don't know how this particular attack means more to the Yoruba than the Nigerian State.

I think those who interprete this as an attack on Yoruba are as guilty as politicians who pursue Regional Agenda and places National Interest as second class.

Nothing is more important to our National Security right now than resolving the Niger-Delta issue. Amnesty to people who have committed no crime wont do, Releasing Henry Okah like his arrest triggered the Niger-Delta crisis wont do either.

The solution is real hard negotiations on our economic future, 100% derivation for South-South should be considered.

I think we are being very unstrategic, at the rate the world is going oil may not be less vital as it is in the next 50years. I also believe that all geopolitical zones have enough resources to be as sufficient as others.

No. we yoruba people love MEND. Yorubas are fully in support of MEND.

0

No, I dont think so. Its all about empty voices as usual.

On the other hand, the Yorubas for reasons best known to them have never given MEND any significant support in the past.

And since when did MEND become Ijaw?

Nigerians suffocate the moment a topic is not out to bash the Igbos.

Una congrats ooo.
