Is Nigeria Ready For A Female President?

Woman President: Is Nigeria Ready?

Is Nigeria ready to have a woman as president? If yes, who?

Unfortunately this county is not ready for a female president. It is not because women are incapable of running Nigeria, but rather because half of its population is Muslim. Would they be willing to accept and honor such a ruler? It is an unlikely thing for now. Still statistics show that women are great managers both in families and in the countries. When they get to spend and manage money, more of it goes towards meeting the needs of children and those in need. They are great at developing social programs and restoring everything, even the economy. So, some day Nigeria might after all get a female president and become one step closer to being a developed country. Just kidding!! I think any woman who wants to govern Nigeria must be a real Iron Lady, possibly with military background and lots of money, must be a heavyweight in the political circle, must be able to command any number of thugs at short notice, must be able to handle the offices of both the president and first lady with style, and so on and so forth - Iron Lady, where art thou?

yes we re, since we have given the man chances and they did nothing good, then giving the woman chance ll be the best option.

I don't think that it's time for that as at yet. Nigeria is a macho nation

and it will take a little bit of time to fully accept the leadership of a

woman in Aso Rock.

Are there brilliant women that can do the job ? Of course, yes. But,

the time is not now. Let's leave it at that.

Thank you ODEKu, no female president in Nigeria abeg, they have emotional issues, unlike man that will lead us in times of war and Nigeria is a diverse nation, no way a woman will keep the country together. the Hausa's won't allow that as well

@ Nkila

Women can neither teach men or rule men

What of the countries like Liberia, Germany and Ireland where women are ruling.

Why do you think Obj appoints women in certain positons especially where men have failed to delivered?

I think the best is Prof. Dora but she is not willing to contest.

They are talking so because naija is still for the most part a male dominated society thats why the thought of a female ruling does not sit well with them.

I don't know what some people are talking about.

If a female is the best candidate, then she deserves to be the best president.

In fact i support a female running for president, maybe it will challenge the men running to do more or prove why they should infact be the president.

What do you mean you cant allow a woman to rule you? What kind of chauvinistic and sexist talk is that?! Like Seun,i really blame your mother for allowing you to grow up with thoughts like that which is disrespectful to all women (mothers) and even your mother. Haven't we proved ourselves enough to you guys. Haven't we showed you that we can do the job even better than you egostic, libido-driven men!Even in the bible you refered to, there are outstanding women. If it was left to people like you, i know we wont have any women leaders.what you should say is that Nigeria is not ready for a female president not that you can't ALLOW a woman to rule you!!!if you want to leave the country, good!but give positive change and progress a chance in Nigeria, s'il vous plait!

Is Nigeria ready for a female President?

Is like asking, if Vatican is ready for a Pope?

0

Why not? It happened in first and third world countries before in countries like England, Pakistan, India and Phillipines. Recently Germany and Liberia just elected women presidents. So, if the most qualified candidate happens to be a woman, then I would support her.

We've heard about the candidate for next years election and the real contenders seem to be Duke, Okotie, Utomi and as much as I hate to admit it IBB.

However, some people also believe Okonjo-Iweala is a contender. I'm not suggesting she is the right candidate especially since I've never believed in an economist being the head of state, prime minister or president even though i'm an economist.

My question also comes as a result of Americans belief that the next president of the US of A is either Hillary Clinton or Condoleeza Rice.

The question is Is Nigeria ready to take that step forward and follow in the footsteps of Chile, Liberia, Phillipines, Finland, Latvia, Ireland and this is just the list of those women still in power as some have come off as you all know. Is this a good move for our country and are there any prospective candidates there. Could you name them please?

@ Chief Agbe, where do you live? I'm thinking it could be in some cave somewhere. Seriously, we do not need to be talking like this given the positive contributions that women have put into governance all over the world. Even in Nigeria, we have some examples of women that have made their mark.

Now you want give power to women ?Why don't they learn how to cook first, I'm tired of women eating in restaurants .

women shewing gun everywhere in public. Enough is enough.

What does the Miss World beauty pageant have to do with presidency? Our finance minister, a woman, doesn't strut about town in skimpy clothes like the Miss World contestants, so I don't see the relevance of that!

have you forgotten what happened when Nigeria tried to host the Miss World beauty pageant? Its not possible to have a female president for now.

yes. it's time we try something different. i don't know who but i know we are ready.

Of course, Nigeria is ready for a female president and her name is Doctor Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala!!

Its not so much the gender that is the issue, though it should not be overlooked. However, at the moment, we need a person with enough understanding of the workings of the military to be able to continue the process of restructuring the military and avert any coup. Obasanjo did a very excellent job in that department in his first few years of civilian rule. We need to get used to the culture of civilian succession.

I'm not really excited about a woman being our president. On second thought, why not? Let's try summin different.
