I was born and bred in ikeja too and i can authoritatively tell anyone that not only are they not violent, the yoruba muslim is one of the most principled and intellectual persons you'll see in this country. You don't even need to look far, see how Fashola has revolutionised Lagos, i'm not even going to mention the Jakande family and free education.

If you come to Nairaland to get an answer, you are just wasting your precious time. This is a place where you should come to get the latest gist and more importantly amuse yourself.Because of the anonymity inherent,Nigerians exhibit their real characters, behaviors, beliefs and true ideology. Its awesome and I love it.So Google or yahoo! real answers or turn to Wikipedia.

Why can't y'all just answer a simple question

She said perhaps ,if they had a more spacious praying ground there would be a lot of women available to pray

However the question I asked was-Is there going to ever be a bigger space?I posited that the bigger the space ,the more the men.She just laughed it off but didn't give an answer.

I suggest you make a muslim girl your friend and progress from where I stopped rather than taking advises from this bunch of hypocritical human beings.Another thing is ''Yahoo answers''.There is always an answer to every question in yahoo.

I wonder why one cant get an answer in Nairaland

From the little I've read about islam, and as common sense would dictate, if u worshipped in the same vicinity as a woman you would not be able to concentrate. U would lose focus, and forget the purpose of ur visit to that place of worship. I don't knw about other jewish sects, but I know that the orthodox jews also have a seperate place for worship btwn men and women in they synagouges! So, this practice is not limited to islam!

First and foremost, this thread ought to be in the religious section but nevertheless i see no reason why anyone should get pissed about any form of worship of others when we preached democracy.i was having a discussion with a friend who strongly criticised african traditional religion sysytem and my response was that in a democratic settings, where people have freedom to exercise their rights on all most everything, the right of individual or group should be respected without sentiments.the islamic culture stipulates a system of worship and other ethical codes as well as the christains and other traidtional religion which personally one may not like.however,if the poster is still looking for more explanation,i think its better if he can google it or better still the moderator can move the thread to the religious section where democracy is out of issue.

@jakumo

real democrats dont allow sentiments cloud their judgement but anyhow you just exercise your freedom of expression too,so dont abuse other folks' freedom of religion and association

One who has been mis-educated, needs to be de-educated and re-educated in other to be properly educated. If you need to be educated about the reason behind the separation ask and not this,

Jakumo please when religious issues and any other issues are been raised in a forum please get your facts str8 before u let out your utterances.

Keeem big ups to you on you contribution the likes of Jakumo are the causes of so many religion crisis happening everywhere.

@ Poster this is not a good way of asking a question if you are really curious about the reason behind the separation only if you want to cause mayhems in the forum will you post such.

Apology accepted @ Jakumo and if you still want to know why, you could ask politely and answers will be given to you.

Kaeeem I thank you for the polite rejoinder. I failed to note that the original question made reference specifically to the dress code inside mosques, and thus I proceded to comment on the Islamic dress code, and forced segregation of genders as a general concept. Apologies tendered.

Jakumo,

I have always had lots of respect for your views but this time, you missed it. When issues of religion come up, let's try as much as possible to avoid making sensational comments. Knowledge is supposed to be used to create harmony and not something used to conjure up short-sighted views. Let's be careful with what we say as educated people so that the uneducated would not feel like missing nothing not to have gone to school because the viewsof educated people are not different from theirs

If you are a christian so be it. If you cannot be a muslim, respect other people's mode of worship. Afterall you are a xtian by reason of your birth. We seaprate women because we beleive that a mosque is not a place to be distracted. That is our views. If xtianity differs, then it is their ways.

As younger generation of Nigeria, we should learn to live in harmony and not cause mayhem by the things we say about other people. A single view about life is worse than being uneducated. Get educated my brother

Cultures which forcibly segregate the sexes wind up creating generations of single men who become so sexually excited by the mere presence of women that forcible Reproduction and other assaults become a major risk.

In such unfortunate, repressive societies, it thus becomes necessary to cover women in head-to-toe Batman costumes for their own safety,  thus creating a vicious cycle of culturally repressing women and treating them like livestock that remain in constant danger of attack by demented male predators who get dangerously excited and desperate merely at the sight of a female toe-nail or strand of hair.

Why separate? are they not created by the same GOD (Allah)? Are they not worshipping the same GOD? Moslems explain this!
