I support the death Penalty including for such crimes as gross corruption. I hate the fact that people will commit grievous crimes to society, only for society itself again to sponsor the remainder of their lives with free accommodation, feeding and clothing. It so pains me that Bode George who should be preparing for the noose is getting free welfare from the country he robbed of billions.

I FULLY SUPPORT THE DEATH PENALTY.

if you are caught and deemed guilty of murder, when you should pay the price, if you want people to turn their backs on capital punishment then you must preach to people about the evil of murder, while forgiveness is an important attribute of a Christian the bible makes it very clear that he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword, simple as that, and please don't bring that story of maternal instinct, tell that when you come face to face with a serial killer

Appropriate punishment should serve as comeuppance for the crime committed, mitigate against a repeat offence by same offender and serve as a deterrent to others.

- For some criminals, like one that has taken the life of another, capital punishment is merited comeuppance.

- There is no guarantee that imprisonment will reform any criminal, but capital punishment ensures that same would not repeat his/her offence. There is no justice in using the taxes of the victims of an heinous crime to keep the perpetrator of said crime alive in a prison.

- Capital punishment, imprisonment, fines or any other penalties, are effective deterrent only to the extent that the individual in question permits.

The debate should be on which crimes deserve capital punishment. Some criminals deserve capital punishment, preferably by hanging, as it is the most environmentally friendly.

the essence of punishment should be foremost, as long as the punishment serves as a good deterrent to the offence committed, its fine. Retribution is not much of a good excuse, its too primitive.

A serial killer who murderers hundreds of people is apprehended then locked up for life, housed and fed with tax payers money, has access to top quality free healthcare. . . .meanwhile there are homeless law abiding citizens who are left to die of hunger on the streets.

How silly is that?

shango doesn't the same bible said an eye for an eye? Please leave religion out of this this is moral and ethical issue. Why should the government used my tax payers money to feed and house and clothe someone that brutally killed my friend or family member for unjustifiable reason? Why should he be spare?

Let me ask you a question, on CNN couple days ago, a young 6 years old was kidnapped and set ablaze. Luckily he survive the ordeal and is still in critical condition. What punishment befits the perpetrator of this crime?

funny how Christians advocate Death Penalty when the New Testament says God will be the final judge.

The hypocrisy of Christians gets me everytime, Jesus, the person we Christians are supposed to emulate, forgave robbers and thieves and killers but we think we should be executing them?

The hypocrisy kills me.

Not all murderers get death sentence but premeditated murder and murder committed in complete disregard for human life deserves double death sentence, if possible. I'll turn the switch in a second and feel a lot better thereafter. I cannot fathom killing another human for no justifiable reason and getting a break due to some moral mumbo jumbo. Kill an innocent man and get fried. Period.

I think one of the purposes of executing these killers is to put that fear in those who intends to kill or on their way to kill. if they kill your relative and

succeed they will have the cuts to come and kill another.

doyin13 impressive response. My point is an eye for an eye. if you kill someone with no remorse then you should be hang as well. forget about in humane or what ever this OYINBO people called it. If you show no mercy for your victims, why should you be spared? In JAMAICA they say No MERCY FOR THE MERCILESS.

@Mamajama

That is what I find most irrational

Why keep someone till they die without any use of their labour

It is an existence worse than death I feel.

Afam to BABEELOVE and Seun it is not rational enough, they want us to put them behind bars and continue to work to pay for their medical bills and continue to feed them.

There is a difference between executing someone that has killed a human being and executing someone wrongly.

I am interested in executing anyone that takes another life.

Anyone that kills another does not deserve to live, is this not simple and rational enough?

BABEELOVE we can't all have your spirit. I see why we need women to make the world a peaceful environment. Men and our testosterone. lol

death penalty is ok as long as you are the one not being wrongly condemned. I bet if you where wrongly condemned you would still support the death penalty

and I bet most of the people that support the war on terror especially those of Naija descent would do a 180 if they instituted a draft and called your Bottom to the front lines

Cruelty is always ok as long as it is not happening to them and is happening to others. Once it is on you people like Mamajama start singing a different tune.

if people support the war on terror then PLEASE JOIN THE SOLDIERS IN IRAQ, THE SURGE CAN BE MORE EFEFCTIVE WITH MORE TROOPS, the more people the higher chance of "victory" so please join up.

Well they have to evaluate all resources available. No one is saying to kill people once convicted. Some of this dead man walking were on death row for over 2 decades. How do you justify telling someone we are going to kill you when the time comes. How do you boost such a morale?

SOme criminal deserve to be publicly executed and some can be reprehensible.

Thank for that point AFAM. BABEELOVE come out and defend this now. there is a news of a 5 years old boy that was kidnapped and set ablaze by terrorist. if this culprits were caught, what punishment befits them?

Now let us test the genuineness of our positions especially for those that are opposed to death penalty.

How many of you are in support of the war on terror especially those targeted at Osama and Al qaeda?

Oya, make we see the objectivity for hia.

That is if assuming the sole purpose is deterrence.

Retribution is also a primary motivation

I just feel we cannot decide a priori whether we support the death sentence or not.

This sort of decision should be left to the kins of the victim.

Nominally I dont support the death sentence, but there are crimes you hear of

that just makes you befuddled about the continuous existence of the perpetuators

0
Avatar

For me the death sentence is wrong, I truly believe in the power of forgiveness. For the evil doer's they will all get their comeuppance.

Babylove,

thou shall not kill says the bible and the bible says, those who live by sword die by sword.

if you are saying someone who spread bullets on innocent people deserves to live then my prayers is that you become involved directly so that we will know how u will handle the situation.

most of us believe because victims are not members of our family so it does not matter.

if there is anything more painful than the maximum punishment, such shld be melted on them.

the bible says; suffer not a witch to live.

do unto others as you would want others to do unto u so if killing is what u give out then killing shld be given back to u.

Someone kills your relation and govt now collect tax from you to keep him in prison

Why do we have to overcrowd the prison? Anyone who kills is inhuman so we should not treat them as human same for molest.

The EU is powerless, even Nigeria asked them to mind their own business when it came to the elections.

Yeah death sentence, who cares?. . .More than 400 people died today on this planet for different reasons. Honestly, there are more things I'll rather do than worry about capital punishment, I can SLEEP.

That was my intention BABEELOVE no amount of justice will replace the slain or the victim, but the criminal should be subjected to the same brutal killing. Why should you use my hard earn tax paying money to feed this criminal that blatantly killed my family member or friend? I am not saying all criminal should be killed, my argument is if you can reason enough to kill another man rationally in the process of dispute. rubbery or aggravated assault, then you should be subjected to the same treatment.

I think if this death sentance is being comitted in China or Russia and not in US, they will term it the worst Human Right abuse, now its happening in US it can be justified to the extent that the texan authorities told the EU to mind their business. Its a starnge world.

@Babeelove

Well perhaps the punishment should be left as an option for the victims family to excercise.

Not everybody has the same forgiving spirit as yourself.

if my child was killed, nothing would give me more satisfaction than to have the criminal's life taken as well.

It would be a cathartic experince for me.

0
Avatar
Newbie

Yup! It cannot bring my child back so what is the point?  Sad and painful----I believe in the power of forgiveness!  I believe in what ever you do in this world--you will definitely pay for it even if you are not caught. No------ taking another human life is pointless to me.  I prefer for the person to be alive and let his conscience torment him or her till death!

0
Avatar
Newbie

BABEELOVE so in retrospect, if I killed your child for his sneakers or tea shirt will you still have the same opinion as THOU SHALL NOT KILL? Be honest my girl

0
Avatar
Newbie

My opinion:  There is never a justification for taking a human life-----------no matter how usesless that human life is.  If what ever you believe in says "thou shalt not kill"  then so be it.  Life sentence without parole is better.  Besides, most death row inmates stay on for over 10-20 years before being executed.  Then the possibility of executing the wrong person is a frightening thought!
