Have you heard about Boko Haram dynamiters group and their activity on territory of Nigeria? In recent years, they've been responsible for plenty of terrorist acts and kidnapping. Popular story about Chibok abduction is also connected with them. Let’s consider the background and the key facts of it right now.
Well, what is the story about? The kidnapping took place in 2014 during night of 14-15 April. It happened in Borno State (Chibok town). The girls from Government Secondary School were abducted. According to the reports, it was made by Boko Haram slayers’ group.
The key thing is to understand purpose of this insurgency. They are totally against western traditions and education, because, as they think, they are opposed to Islamic ones. They do everything to prevent it.
That’s why starting from 2010, schools have become their main target. Lots of young women've been kidnapped as used as sex slaves or cooks.
The government has done much to fight this group; however, their programmes have failed. There has been even state of emergency in Borno region. But it didn’t stop terrorists. Their attacks were intensified in 2014. They attacked Federal Government College, where 60 boys were killed. Besides, they murdered about a hundred of Christians. Boko Haram has been blamed for nearly 4,000 deaths in 2014.

Later that year, there was kidnapping of Nigerian girls from Chibok. The terrorist group broke into school, pretending they were guards. They told the girls to get out and come with them. Great number of students were taken away in trucks. Besides, many houses in the city were also burned down in the incident. The children were aged 16 to 18 and were in their final year of school.
It is difficult to say for sure, how many female students have been kidnapped, because the total amount of present ones is also unknown. Initial reports claim there have been about 85 of them. However, several days later, the parents announced that more than 270 kids were missing. There were also reports that about 50 of them managed to run away in May.
According to the information from Amnesty International, Nigerian armed forces were warned about the attack four hours before it. Nevertheless, they failed to send reinforcements to help and to protect children.
About a year ago, this murderers’ group published a video with the options for girls’ release. Many girls were shown and interviewed. Some of them confirmed they had been converted to Islam. The government could not give immediate response. That’s why many people started criticizing them. However, later, Goodluck Jonathan (the President during that time) accepted help from the USA, Britain, China, and some other countries. Specialists were sent to make the search more effective and finally find the girls.
The result was failure. Many women were freed, however, no Chibok girls were found. It is claimed that plenty of them were sold into slavery. The others were forced to marry certain Boko Haram group members.
According to the latest news on Chibok girls, the identities of the leaders, responsible for the abduction, will become public issue soon. One of them is thought to be Jarasu Shirawho (one of the sect leaders). He was captured by military forces in one of their operations. His identity should be checked and confirmed though.
Even if some of the masterminds are arrested, the destiny of girls is still unknown. Today we can only hope that they will be finally found and come back home to their families.
