Who Is Really The Giant Of Africa?

Hello Guys,This issue as been a problem for Me and My Friends,But I Like to share with You Guys;Nigeria is always claiming to be the 'Big Brother of Africa'And I do not Know the aspect or area She claim to be This 'Big'. Now, lets look at South Africa,They have all the better companies, like the one causing problem in Nigeria now,DSTV.Even Our own NTA do take clips from there to show Us some news.No South African will leave His Country and say He/She is coming to Nigeria to stay,I have not seen any.But Nigerians are running to South Africa every now and then.Back to the entertaining aspect of it,when it comes to entertainment They give Us more than We can get here in Nigeria,English premiership,CAF Champions league,UEFA champions league,Even Nigerian premier league and Nigerian movies and good documentaries We can think of and other beautiful programs. They also give Us political news from other African Countries. When NTA will show one They will keep mensioning it as if They are the first to do so.Politically,South Africa do give help to other African countries in need,[I stand to be corrected] .For me there is nothing Nigeria as done that South Africa as not done[Even better].So I leave it for You Guys to tell Me,Who is Really the Giant Of Africa?

Africa doesn't have any giant right now.Ghana can be said to be promising because some how they seems to have a minute clue of what patriotism and accountability means.

I think it’s a matter of definition. If you say economic or politial giant, then I will say Nigeria is not. But where population and natural resources are concerned in Africa, Nigeria is an overwhelming giant.

if you want to name a giant just based on their population, then, how come India is still as terrible as some 3rd world nations?

Nigeria is no giant at all, and if ghana has the kinda money that Nigeria and South African has, it is a matter of time before they tell Nigeria when to shut up.

There is nobody in the doubt that south africa economy is the best in Africa right now. But what make a nation a giant is not just her economy, Nigeria is a giant because of her potentials. Human, material and natural resources. Its just that Nigeria is a sleeping or should i say a sick giant.

1 out of every 4 african is a nigerian. if Nigeria should fall today, which african country can trully rescue nigeria (accomodate, provide aid, or enough military assistance)? None. not even 5 of south africa.

It is not about senseless politicians the people are just generally bad in Nigeria. Abi do you people think that politicians and leaders are imported into Nigeria? Is it not from the general populace they emanate?

Thabo Mbeki is completely senseless. He is the only President that has publicly declared that HIV does not exist. Yet his country is doing very well.

So stop heaping the problem on Politicians, Nigerians as a whole need a total paradigm change.

When we Focus, in 10 years, we'll be earning a higher GDP than South Africa and in the next 20 years we should be among the top 20 countries in the world.

But instead of us getting to work already, NLC is embarking on violent holidays. E go really hard us.

There are different criteria for judging this giant of Africa issue which may lead to people saying it's either South Africa or Nigeria.

In general though, currently, South Africa is the number 1 country in Africa.

Naijaway, you are so hopeful. Please be realistic. It is not happening in our life time. Y'ardua has 8 years to rigmarole Another one will come for another 8 years and so on and so forth. Please just plan for mass evacuation to Ghana or South Africa- of the rest of your family over there in 9ja like I am doing. I plan to give the rest of them something else to believe in. Otherwise they would die never knowing that something better like constant electricity existed elsewhere in this world! When I was in Nigeria, no matter how much I visited western countries or watched movies, I thought it was a dream till I lived outside of 9ja and I really began to understand that we may be doomed!

Another 47years ke. na wa o. Thats basically a new generation. But still yet naija is the Giant of west, central, and south of Africa because eventhough we are messing up big time others have not lived up to standard excerpt for south Africa but south africa still gat white intrest and help due to the africons living there. Hopefully we should be on a good scale in the next ten to fifteen years.

It hurt me so bad when i think of our potentials and where we are.

what is Going on with AJAOKUTA?(we should be making our own cars from that place)

why don't we have functioning refineries?(we should not be importing fuel)

so many resources that we are not harnessing.(all other solid minerals that could create employment)

No rail system. Our airport are bad.(it could create employment and reduce road accident)

Education is still very bad, Number of UK Universities coming to take away student here show the level

of confident we have in our education.Nigerians run to Ghanaian universities now.(what is the future of a country that is not investing in education)

That is why i will always score OBJ low he had 8yr to make a significant impact and he did not.

we are still hoping that thing will work out one day.But for now SA is the giant

WORLD CUP 2010 is a good testimony.

Assuming the world cup is awarded to Nigeria. We will be building hospital, roads, hotel, security, issue of area boys, nepa, telecommunication, educate people how to treat people.tourist sites.how to clean our rivers and make them attractive.where to dump our solid and liquid waste to make the whole place loOK ok for one month. The issue of corruption.Do u think Nigeria will be ready or will host well?

I agree with you slimnike. South Africa is the giant of Africa let us accept that. Unless you are talking about corruption Giant.

There is no war in Zimbabwe It is just some sort of bad rulars trying to inflict pains on the masses. So it will be difficult to intervene into such issues. Think of the role SA is playing in all the countries in southern Africa. Thier role during the flood in mozambique. You have to travel to SA and see the level of development. Then you will know what i am talking about.

Nigeria is the giant of Africa and will be one nation that will unite West Africa. A lot of Nigerians are educated while south Africans aren't; Nigeria is 95%black while South Africa is not; Nigeria and other African nations are going through a phase that South Africa can't go through ie discrimination by past colonials and developed nations, poverty that is related to that discrimination, and power struggle; Nigeria is bold by trying to make a difference even in the face of wickedness and greediness ie Sierra leone, Togo, Liberia, Congo, and currently Sudan and Somalia, while South Africa is just immersed in herself  eventhough Nigeria assisted in ending apartied; Nigeria has a potential to be among G10 if corruption is minimized and erradicated because all her citizens is spread across the globe including Iraq; Nigeria will be living in peace internally and with other African countries especially West Africa while South Africa will be figuring her identity out and dealing with crime and I say this cuz the whites in South Africa are thinking if its worth their stay in the country cuz of the level of crime and the dependency by blacks in the country; and lastly for now, Nigeria does not receive so called world aid whereby every other nation in Africa receives aids including South Africa datz becoming increasingly dependent on their whites and asian communities but still want to complain when they 'r evicted from their homes.

Nigeria is not only d giant of africa but has been d only world black giant 4 many centuries now.South Africa is almost half european,Egypt and morocco are all arab invaders while kenya is half indian.black communities in usa,central/south america, europe and elsewhere are in shackles, disgrace and penury.Nigeria is the number one 100% indigenous black achiever and power dat we can really cal our own am sure even black south africans look up to her.Imagine debating wit a white man about whether Africans live in trees and you mention south africa. He will not only take you there and show you his family tree but will also give you detailed stories about how they planned and devised the place.Your best option is Nigeria,d only champion goliath of blacks all over the world.let's respect that achievement.

How does all these translate into being the giant of Africa?? What is Nigeria's GDP rate today?? Unemployment rate nko?? A country that could not conduct a credible census to determine how many its citizens are, you call such country a giant?? Election nko?? Was it at least 25% credible?? i belive SA is the giant of Africa for now.

The fact that Nigerians can laugh at the poor state that the country is in, is qite disturbing. Instead of striving to contribute something, however little it may be, people seat on their Brand New Leather couches, sipping Cocktails.

Haha, but that is so not true. Nigeria's economy is only rivalled by Egypt and South Africa. Nigeria's economy is rated one of the highest in Africa. Study Macro ecnomics and Investments and you'll immediately modify your post

This is what Nigeria has, so we don't mistake it for the we don't have list
[li]Nigeria has the fastest Growing Telecommunication industry In Africa[/li]

[li]Nigeria has the second largest economy in Africa(Morocco and Egypt are said to be either slightly ahead or slightly behind)[/li]

[li]The Best Space techonlogy on Ground In Africa[/li]

[li]Nigeria has the LOngest Bridge in Africa[/li]

[li]Murtala Mohammed International Airport and Nnamdi Azikwe Airports, are one of the busiests in Africa[/li]

[li]The best planned city in Africa (Dodoma in Tanzania doesn't come close)[/li]

[li]The fourth Largest Army in Africa[/li]

[li]I can add this to the list (Africa's Premier business resort Tinapa)[/li]

[li]The fastest growing Internet rate in Africa[/li]

[li]An expanding Automobile industry[/li]

[li]The largest Retail Facilities in West Africa[/li]
I'll expand this list, when my memory becomes more clear!

Get my analogy ziddy if Nigeria is the giant of Africa cos we are the most populous, then China should be the world superpower, followed by India e.t.c

0
Avatar

how the hell can china be the giant of the world?

make no mistake about this its not by raw population if you cant provide the most basic things of life: jobs, functional education, healthcare, you're not yet there, my guy.

china is the world power in waiting if they can manage to strike the right balance b.t.w capitalism and communism.

naija is a sleeping giant and is nowhere on the radar for now.

ishmaels ratings were hilarious but accurate, however i will like to add a few

(1) yahoo, yahoo: excellent (internet scams to rob the Rich and feed the Poor)

(2) aristo: excellent (catching the ladies [and men] VERY young, like R. Kelly- probably not as bad)

(3) 419: excellent (Nigerian enterprising invention to exploit the greedy and uninitiated mind)

but apart from these sarcastic attributes, there are some intangible ratings that, for me, serve as a beacon of hope.

(1) 'o wan be' a.k.a. parties and social life: excellent

(2) contentment, unflinching hope, and peace of mind: excellent (Fela called it suffering and smiling)

(3) family structure and culture: excellent

If it is true that the family and personal values together make up the quintessential unit of any society, then with our excellent family structure and wonderful and rich cultural heritage, i am persuaded to believe that all will be well with Nigeria in the long run.

Let me tell you the way this will go eventually. We will not all agree because we are all different.I believe that Nigeria is the Giant of Africa and a great country that will get better because within me, that is the way I see Nigeria and that is the way I see myself/

So many other people will not believe that bacause the things that makes for greatness for them are no necessarily within them but outside.

LIfe necer gives you waht you deserve but what you demand!

Nigeria used to be the Giant of Africa. Right now, there is no Giant in the whole of Africa. South Africa as we know it today has a lot to offer because it was less than 2 decades ago that the colonialist officially left. However let the truth be told the colonialist still control 95% of South Africa's economy and wealth. Until an African country is thriving well and is handled by Africans themselves, i am not yet impressed. When South African is truly independent, it will be the Giant of Africa.

Notwithstanding S Africa's great strides, no African nation compares to Nigeria in terms of human resources. No african nation compares to Nigeria in terms of natural resources. Yet nigeria is still the most corrupt nation in the world with over 60% unemployment still suffering in the midst of plentiful black gold - Certainly the poorest oil producing nation in terms of GDP of its resident citizens. Nigeria is more of a dissappointment than anything else if you will ask me. There is helplessness in face of all Nigerian citizens who are not born into an elite family. If you don't agree with this fact, you must be from a middle class or rich family, go find out from the millions of common men in street who have no clue of were to get food let alone dream of watching TV.

Despite close to half a century of independence Nigerians havent learned to co-exist with one another, neither have they learnt to improve the living standards of their brethren. It is this self centeredness that have made our leaders ineffective. And more importantly it is the complacency of the followers that have let the leaders/dictators go scott-free, with no checks and balances, as they expoit our fertile land to barreness.

Over four decades of coexstence but Nigerians still have inter-tribal and inter-religious conflicts, sometimes fighting over the most trivial things. No Giant can stand for long, when it's members are not united. That's why the Giant of the 60's is 60 years behind most the developed world - just a baby with poor judgement in the eyes of the developed. Until there is a change of heart by ALL Nigerians to live up to the ethics and social responsibilities of a decent society, Nigeria will continue claiming the vain title of 'Giant', with mightly little to show for it.
