Why Did The Western Media Ignore Jos?

Why did the western media ignore Jos this time around and focus on India where less than 150 people died? Are they getting tired of us or they just don't care?

Citizens of US were among the victims of the attack!!

To me I think that is the reason.

Well, the western media reporting such, draws attention to the issues (like it did, for the child witches)

BUT the problem becomes, WE, Nigerians will then begin another discussion of how western media only says bad things about Nigeria, this, that, that, this, we complains too much and the story never ends.

White people and Americans died in India. No white person or American died in Jos. So theres the question, why would they care? !!!

They are saying it everyday, IT IS HARD TO FIND THE TRUTH FROM NIGERIA, every media reports what it deemed right for its audience, the Authorities does not have the Correct Information to give, information conflict always makes the media reluctant to report a news. Besides, it happens all the time in Niger Area, so it is not a new thing.

apologize to someone who obviously, knowingly participated in plagiarism, hateful propaganda and deceit.

No way! You are too undeserved of any apology.

You can go on and continue creating new IDs, Whether hotfunmi or redhotchic, we know they are all you.

I will soon prove that even the person you claimed was the first poster of that stolen picture is you too. If not why would you hijack the picture and even sang with it.

I will find you out. I promise!

I do not why people are moaning about the western media ignoring what happened. I for one know that if they had covered it, most people here would claim they are being biased or they are covering it excessively.

why didnt the western media report the crisis in jos?

you are not important my dear. nigeria is not important in the world. but nigeria's oil is important. if that violence was in the niger-delta, it would get better coverage.

by the way, how much of it did the NTA report?

She even punctuated her propaganda with a song.

Its annoying because the same person was singing a different song of opinion on this Jos issue just few days ago.

Ask yourself, How many world media organisations had a station or is based in Nigeria with a strong represention of work force? The answer is zero.

The likes of BBC or Reuter has local correspondences that works only as freelance journalist, hence you don't see live pictures of events from Nigeria as it happens from CNN,fOX,SKY, AL JAZERA, FRANCE 24, RT 24, C-SPAN, ITN etc.

When BBC do forward Nigeria news it comes as a report, phone transmission, that will most end up as footnote on the News 24 or on the world service report and in most cases Hausa or Swahili services.

Western media reports event that most diretcly affect them in human terms. In India, you heard about how many French, German, British, US, Canadian, Isrealise etc that died or survived  the attack because India is tourism destination for many people all over the world and that includes Kenya most recently.

But any foreigner you saw in Nigeria is there as a vulture, they land and pick whatever they want especially in the oil and gas sector and they quickly fly off again. So the chances of them being caught up in the Jos problems is nearest to zero. Hence they don't give a hoot. Remember that they use to report about the kidnaps in the Niger Delta region at the outset when the victims were Westerners, but since it has become a localised kidnapping, how many times had you heard it on the western media circle since then?

The world do not go to Nigeria, may be in the exception of the Lebanese, then you can understand why, as Lebanon makes Nigeria looks peaceful, plus their greed and irk toward corruption and canine business dealings, so Nigeria must suits them very right in that respect.

I dont care about Fox news etc.

BBC has been showing it both locally and on news24 ever since it broke out. The western media did not ignore it!

This is a rather slow thread as someone said before.

Terrorism cuts across borders, and lots of countries are constantly being targeted for terrorist attacks. The Mumbai attack took months in planning and was a concerted and co-ordinated attack, designed to strike fear and terror in the hearts of people. FOr many people in the world, they feel at risk from terrorist attacks. There's little chance that rampaging Hausas would kill people in New York, so why would they want to watch stories about killings in Nigeria?

Especially when the killings are coming from a state that has had TWO religious riots in the past without any lessons being learnt. No rapid response squad formed, no sincere attempt to nip such riots in the bud.

The irony of Nigerians. We insist that CNN et al only show bad news about Nigeria, yet now we're complaining that they are not showing enough bad news.

Must we get sentimental over this?,

How often does the media report deaths on the streets of Iraq these days?

When an occurence becomes too predicatble and recurrent it ceases to be breaking news. The spate of sensless loss of lives and religious murders have become a culture in Nigeria.

It is now a way of life and death.

Charity begins at home. They will graduate into international terrorists from here. You think they will remain local butchers for life?. Very soon, al qaeda will discover them and they will offer their services for a plate of food.

Oh it didnt but at least we all knew it was a terriost attack, but this in jos alot of people are confused as to what caused it.we don't even knw wht it is.And as long as it is terriost attack it concern usa one way or the other, because they were a victim too.

The World would rather like to get an update on World Terrorism since it cuts across than an Ethno- Religion crises ignited by some individuals and confined within d borders of a single country.

IT ACTUALLY MADE HEADLINE IN CNN; DEC 1st

it doesnt actually need much coverage, because the reason for the disaster was obviously DUMB! compared to terrorism.

Nigerians killing themslefs for mere polls, it's worth ingnoring.

Am I missing some thing? What benefit could have come out of a full news coverage of Nigerians killing fellow Nigerians?

it got some coverage on the net.

I think the reason is that the riot is baseless it doesnt make sense. Why kill innocent people.

Their main aim is to focus on stories that are important to the countries they serve. The fact here is that the attacks in India is of more importance to them than Nigerians killing themselves in their own country. I mean they do have greater business ties with India than Nigeria.

Jos is of no significant or financial impact to the global or western world.

How can the western media not say a word about an atrocities that claimed over 400 innocent peoples lives? and yet all we saw over the weekend was India?

Time for Nigerians to wake us

This is a slow Thread.

If white people had been targeted in Nigeria, it would have made headline news in the west, right away.

We always hear about 1 lonely foreign worker kidnapped in Niger-Delta.

That is the answer to your rather rhetorical question.

Will it change anything if CNN,BBC, SKY and the rest report this story. Why the unnecessary clamour for publicity.

Nigerians have been killing themselves over things as small as "pure water" so this is not new to the world.

When we finally get rid of our animalistic traits, the world will have our time.

0

It was all the Western Media news. CNN is not the only source of news information my dear.

That said, Nigeria is in real trouble if we still reason that killing one another makes progress to the nation.

I think it's because there is no oil in Jos, I'm sure if this had happened in the delta region of Nigeria it would have been allover Fox News. And sadly the incident in India this weekend got most of the attention.

They must have found out that your country practices genocide as a culture. Its legal for that matter.
