I love many Saints but I want to talk about St JoseMaria Escriva. He taught that you dont have to remove yourself from your daily life to be a saint. That you can sanctify yourself with your daily work and school etc by offering everything up to God and doing everything for the love of God. There are those who think that holiness is only possible for priests and religious and St JoseMaria's teaching is very relevant for these people.

Sometimes, it isnt just the spectacular things like miracles etc that matter. Even the little things matter a lot.

I had often wonder why st Anthony was so blessed.God really used him to perform the strangest of miracles.one of the most famous been his preaching to the fishes at the river in Rimini.

His canonisation only took 9 months the shortest in the history of the church. Some had even argued he had performed more miracles posthumously than when he was alive.

St pio the first priest to get the stigmata was another great saint and alongside Pope JP2,mother theresa, and kolbe the greatest saints of the twentieth century.

I know about maximillian kolbe and his sacrifice but am particular about how spiritually gifted st Anthony was.

He had the gift of healing, prophesy, speaking in tongues, levitation, bilocation among others. He is one of the most spiritually endowed people to have ever lived

@ Rotimy

I'd have to agree with you on your stance about choosing a name without first thinking about its meaning, or connotations. That is the problem with people in society. Everything is situational, and so words are used loosely and not a second thought is put into the effect it might have on those who either see, or hear the word, and especially if such a word connotes something impure.

I leave "Seagoddess" alone as my brethren advised. And I thank God for my "superstition" as Lady puts it. But I will never offer any apology to any godess. If someone uses "harlot" as a screen name, I will just say, oh that's a saint pretending or in a making, then I will recommend it as a child's baptismal name! What a faith!

It does not matter whether or not I will name my daughter seagoddess, if I do, I will have a reason behind it and no one can judge me for that. She had a reason to use that as her screen name and it is not up to you or I to do any judging.

When I saw the name seagoddess mammywater did not come to my mind. I am not that superstitious. Pls don't let your superstition cause you to insult her, thanks.

She owes you no apology, get over it. But you do owe her an apology, it is none of your business whatever name she chooses. You do not have any control over her and you certainly do not pay her bills. She owes you no apology neither does she owe you an explanation for it. We are not using Canon law here, thanks.

@ , Lady,

the meaning of the word lady is the same no matter the background. So if Fela, Daniel Webster or any other person uses it, we know the meaning. Pls we are dealing and discussing spiritual matters not romance or petty things and it is a wonder that you consider it a judgement for correcting her or raising the issue up! She should choosen Lucifer or Satan since it concerns no body!

Let seagodess speak up , then I will know who will offer the apology. Will you in all fairness name your daughter seagodess?

0
Avatar

She owes no one an apology. You do not know the reasons for her using that as her screen name. I use Lady as a screen name because of the song by Fela Kuti, my friends teased me with that song because they said I act exactly like the description of Lady in the song. That has been my nickname ever since.

You have absolutely no idea the background of that name. You are here passing judgment without knowing the girl or her background and her reason for choosing that name.

You do owe her an apology. It is not up to you to judge her.

@ Lady. We thank God so much for the diversity of spirituality in our Church. I am always amazed whenever I pray with various groups that their prayers are fervent and powerful. But, I am also worried that some Catholics are stuck on few prayers to one saint or their other and hardly know the joy of spontanous prayers to Jesus Christ.

@ Pls we have to do 9 days novena to St. Jude{in charge of difficult cases} so that our sister will drop her username, SEA-GODDES. Though it her right and choice but I think a person that started a post like this should know the implication of giving the glory of God to Satan and his agent

I understand that one may not have a favourite saint, I stated that already in my posts earlier, I am talking about you stressing the point that you are Catholic who prays to Jesus and not through any saint as if intercessions of the saint is wrong. I am not saying it is wrong to pray directly to Jesus afterall even while asking the saints to interceed for us we are praying to Jesus directly, the way you said it seems like you don't share that belief with the Church.

Do u accept the teaching of the Church on the saints?

I am asking bcus u made ur statement as if u don't believe in intercessions by the saints.

If u don't accept it then u are not Catholic.

why do you bother asking the holy spirit to help you and not just go look for it yourself?

0
Avatar
Newbie

i dont understand why people pray to saints who are just human beings in heaven. where in the bible did it tell us to pray to pray to a saint. Did Jesus Christ ever pray to any saint, no he only prayed to God not Elijah or Abraham. And why pray to someone else when we can speak directly to God. When i loose something i just simple say Holy Spirit please help me in Jesus name

0
Avatar

None of the Saints is my favourite! I AM A CATHOLIC BUT I PRAY TO JESUS CHRIST not via any saint!

@ SEA-GODDES, How can you be talking about saints in heaven while your user name glorifies the evil spirit under the water? It's a pity and I will never take you serious. Is your true favourite saint, the mammy water?

you do not have to be catholic to have a favourite saint. just see the good they do and recognize.

hey i'm new hear and wishing everybody the best 2009 can offer for me my best catholic saint is st Jose Maria his writings are so inspiring then st Rita of casia follows

i do not have a favourite saint because each saint has a particular intention which they can help you with, so its best to say that all the saints are well favoured to me, it just depends on my current need and the context in which the saint is known for. like saint jude thaddeus is said to be the patron for hopeless cases, saint josemaria escriva is the saint that helps one to live a daily life of sanctification and so on

Ok so do you wear the garb of the region then?

I am asking this because here in the U.S. priests and religious are not wearing their garb and habits. Can you believe some nuns don't wear their habits?

How is one supposed to recognise a priest or a religious? They're not supposed to blend in the crowd, they're supposed to stand out. How can one learn more about the faith if we don't live it or show it outwardly.

oo I can't wait for it.

Always stay in prayer, there is no prayer beneath you.

St Augustine. He reconciled Plato and Theology, and did it amazingly well. He's African, of which I'm terribly proud. He's an amazing Christian. I'm not Catholic, but I can have a fav Saint. He is it, by far.

It is hard to say that a particular Saint is ones favourite but if I am to pick a Saint, I will choose Saint Paul.

Yay, you made it. Ok my point isn't that they haven't done anything, my point is that the society is diminishing, quite a lot of them have become proud of their works. Humility is going out the door, and you may have just shown everyone that.
