What does Bible say about transgender? How does God view the sex change? The answer is in this article.
The issue of transgender has been a very tough one, especially recently. People do not know what to think of it, particularly since the activists raise questions about treating this as a normal part pf life. No one can judge them, and everyone is supposed to take it as a given. However, other people keep asking what exactly God thinks about it despite what people want to believe. And as it turned out, you can learn a lot about it from the Scriptures.
So, what does the Bible say about transgender issues? We will not talk about people that were born with both reproduction organs of a man and a woman. However, we will discuss the issues of people willing to change their sex. Scientifically speaking, transgender means that someone “feels as if he or she identifies with a different gender than their assigned (born) sex, or desires to be a different gender. Transgender or transsexual behavior can include sex change surgery, cross-dressing (drag queen or king), acting like the opposite sex, and more. Some other related terms of sexual or gender confusion include gender identity disorder (GID), androgyne, bigender, pangender, third gender, and gender-neutral.”
To be able to answer whether Bible calls transgender a sin, we need to have a close look at several passages we find in the Scriptures about this. The first verse we will introduce you to here is from the very first book of the Bible, Genesis. In the first verses Moses describes how God was creating the Universe and how He intended it to function.
Here is how It goes there about the creation of a man and a woman: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them” (Genesis 1:27).
According to the Revelation website, this verse makes it clear that God wanted to send a clear message to the ones He created. He wanted them to know several things and make sure that got what they did not mean. Among the things He emphasizes in Genesis 1:27 are:
1. God chose the sex for both Adam and Eve. He did not have to ask what they were happy or comfortable with.
2. God only created one wife and one husband. Not several ones. Just one.
God set a perfect example in this verse: He let people know how marriage is supposed o look like all the time after the first marriage “ceremony,” and He instructed people that He only created two sexes: male and female. No variations for those who are not quite satisfied with what they have.
He had a point behind such creation. God wanted the Universe to exist this way: not in any other way. He wanted there to be a man and a woman. However, then Satan started whispering into people’s ears that there might be something they would like to change the way God intended them to be.
Another verse that can point out to the issues of transgender is this: “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are the abomination unto the LORD thy God” (Deuteronomy 22:5).
The idea of wearing something only a man or a woman should wear can slightly remind us of the transgender problem: men or women wanted to be someone they were not intended to be. There is no sin in the clothes. However, there is a sin that lies in the motives of the person trying to pull this with God.
God does not support the idea of cross-dressing, as He sees it as an attempt to change one’s sex that was given to a person by God from birth. As the Revelation website notes, the person that is willing to change his/her sex is as if saying that God’s design and plan for his/her life is not as good as he deserves or wishes to have. As if judging God’s creation, they decide to take measures and fix what they find created in a wrong way.
However, this is an absolute lie about God. He knew every person He created long before they were born. He thought everything through and made everything work. Not one person was created by accident: all things on earth make perfect sense.
On top of this, here is what prophet Jeremiah say about it: “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
God does not make any mistakes. All His creation is unique and has a purpose and a cause.
Finally, another thing you should remember when talking about God’s attitude to transgender is that there is a verse that mentions that God is not happy about men that show qualities or characteristics that are often associated with females than males. Here it is:
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)
In this verse, the word effeminate concerns the men that tend to act like women. God does not tolerate this kind of behavior; that is why He speaks very firmly about people who did this. The biblical scholars use these three verses to show how God condemns the practice of transsexuality, cross-dressing, and changing one’s sex through surgery or other means.
They claim that “you can never change your sex–you can only mutilate your body to make it appear as if you’ve changed your sex. You’re always going to be the sex you were born with, no matter how much you try to mask it. You can’t change your DNA.”
Remember the story with Abraham Lincoln and a boy. He was once talking to a kid and asked him, “If a dog has four legs, and you call its tail a leg, how many legs does it have?” The boy answered, “It has five legs.” Abraham Lincoln replied, “Nope, it just has four legs. Calling a tail a leg does not make it a leg.”
What a beautiful illustration of the simple truth that you cannot change the way God intended something or someone to be even if you call it differently. Saying that you are not happy with something only shows that you have issues and your motives need to be examined before it is too late.
People use different things to justify their choice. Now, as you see, the desire to change sex or transgender is a sin; and like any other sin, it is rooted in the motives of one’s heart. People state that God is okay with being undergoing surgeries to become a man or a woman because God just loves everyone and accepts all people.
God truly loves everyone, but it does not mean that we can do whatever we find comfortable. People have to repent and accept Jesus. And those who did would be tempted to sin, but they will also have the power to overcome the temptation and stay away from it.
‘What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law but under grace? God forbid” (Romans 6:15).
Also, people use the verse in Galatians as a justification for transgender. This verse says “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).
However, this verse by no means justifies our sinful choice of changing sex. With this verse, God mentions that he has no favorites. He does not prefer one sex or another, nor one nation to the other one. He treats us all equal. Therefore, one cannot say that this verse means that transgender is okay.
Last but not least, people claim that it is not their choice but rather a need and their suffering they cannot conquer. So, they state since they cannot overcome this temptation, God is okay with them changing their sex to whatever they want it to be.
Despite the excitement of the mass media about it, God is not happy with it. He’d rather have these people be what He intended them to be. We are never happy when our child looks at something white and calls it black. This means that there must be something wrong in child’s development. So, we call a professional and want to solve this issue by all means. This is even truer when it comes to our kids lying to us. We won’t let it go easily: we want to talk to them about it, explain to them that lying is bad and hat no good can come from sinning.
However, for some reason, people believe that God is different, and He will remain silent and enjoy His creation doing evil and support it. No way that is about the God of Bible. Bible makes a very clear point on transgender: that is a sinful desire to point out that God is not capable of creating good stuff. That is why this motive and an admonition to God in a way He meant sexes to work is sinful.
