What is the power in the name of Jesus? Why should you trust Jesus and accept Him as your only Savior and the best friend you could ever ask for? I will give a number of reasons for this in my article.
The name of Jesus was one of that most persecuted and yet one of the most famous throughout the history. Jesus, God in a flesh, though only lived in a flesh on earth for 33 years, left an impact that still influences people all over the world.
What is the power in His name and why is Jesus worthy of your trust? The Bible gives a thorough explanation to these questions. And they all find answers in the Gospel.
The Gospel or a Good news is the key point of the Bible. The Gospel is what this whole world was created for and why it has not still fallen apart.
The Good news is that there is Power in the name of Jesus. However, this power is given through the Gospel. If you do not know what a Gospel is, here are seven points that will help you discover the truth within it.
First of all, God is holy. This means that has never sinned and has nothing to do with sin at all, He is absolutely separated from the sin. If you think of this holiness, try imagining a piece of white cloth, shiny white cloth. It has no spots or dirty points on it. It is extremely white! That is how the holiness of God looks like.
The second point is that people are sinful. It all started in the Eden Garden when Eve and then Adam chose not to follow God’s commands and ate a fruit from a forbidden tree. Sin is either an action, a word or a thought that contradicts the good will of God.
We do hundreds of sins every day and cannot help it without the power of Jesus. These sins build a great wall between us and God, as He is separated from the sin, and there is nothing we can do to overcome this great wall and reach God.
The next point of the Gospel is that God stated that the only way to pay for your sins is to die. Somebody has to die for your things. No other sacrifices would be sufficient to cover the damage you made with sins. It will either be you who dies and pays the eternal price for the numerous sins in the hell, or somebody else, who would decide to die for you.
The most amazing thing about the Gospel is hidden in the word grace. By grace, God decided to send His own only Son to die for us and ay for our sins. There is no other way our sin could be ruined so that we could reach God and live in His presence here on earth or in heaven.
Jesus said: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). This I sour next point: Jesus became an innocent but holy sacrifice for our sins. He did know sin, he never sinned and therefore, His death was a perfect sacrifice. On the cross, He paid the price every human being was supposed to pay: He suffered the eternal sufferings that were waiting for people in hell as a fair penalty for their sinful lives.
Now people can have life and have it in abundance if they choose to trust Jesus. All they need to do is to come to Him, repent your sins, genuinely admit that their sinners and ask Him to be their Savior. Then His sacrifice will be the perfect payment for their sins enough to break the wall between God and people.
When someone accepts Jesus as a Savior, he becomes holy in the eyes of God. Not because the person stops sinning but because all the sins were paid for by the death of perfect Christ, so they no longer count and God calls such a person His own son or daughter. There is no other way but through Jesus Christ to come to God.
It is when a person accepts Jesus as his Savior, he can experience the power of Jesus’ name. Holy Spirit now dwells in the heart of a person, bringing him peace in the midst of troubles and worries. The power of Jesus can give the person peace: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).
The name of Jesus Christ is the one that determines your identity. It means that if He is your Savior, God calls you a son or a daughter, His loved one, the one He care for and never leaves. These things will shape your personality and attitude to many things that you face in your life. Moreover, if you are a Christian Jesus calls you to live a life following the example He left for you in the Scriptures.
There is power in the name of Jesus for Christians as they can get anything they ask for from God with only one requirement for that: “Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you” (John 16:23-24). Asking for something in Jesus’ name means that a person should make sure that things he/she asks for are in accordance with the general commands of Jesus given in the Bible.
For instance, one cannot pray for something bad to happen to a person, as it contradicts the commandment of loving a neighbor. However, God listens to the prayers of His children and cares a lot to give them joy and ease their burdens in day-to-day life.
The other things Christians know is that the enemy, Satan, is afraid of God. He knows what a powerful name Jesus has, and trembles at His voice. Therefore, there is nothing God cannot protect you from when you pray in the name of Jesus.
The Bible also teaches that the power in the name of Jesus is a refuge and a hiding place for Christians. Remembering whom Christ is and how powerful His deeds are, Christians can run to Him in the midst of a storm and ask for comfort and peace. He is willing to help His children and protect them from possible dangers and hardships.
These things only “work” if you know Jesus as your personal Savior. It is not enough to just admit that there is God somewhere and He created everything. Accepting Jesus as a personal Savior means that a person has close intimate relationships with Christ, as He is a personality and He is always near.
To know that you really have a relationship with Christ and He is your Savior, you can check your heart and see whether there are any changes in it. People that come to Christ receive the Holy Spirit in their hearts. You get Him only if your repentance was genuine. Later as a sign of your repentance, you will notice changes in the core values of your heart.
You will able to forgive people you could not forgive for ages, or you will be able to do good to people who want to harm you. The Bible teaches that those who have not given their lives and hearts to Jesus will be once thrown away to hell when Jesus comes back again to take His church and to judge the whole world and people that ever lived or will still live there.
Therefore, if you have not accepted Christ as you Savior, remember that you won’t have the power of His name in your life and you are at risk of not being able to be with Him in eternity. Such a future is the worse than you can imagine. However, it is a reality that the Bible teaches will come.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). These are the words of Jesus Christ that encourage people to come to Him and experience the power in His words and His presence. Think about them for a while!
