Why Do People Like Blabbing In Church?

My cousin who is from a more traditional and orderly church setting visited a pentecostal church on invitation, and she asked me this question. She wondered why people have to shout so much and even be encouraged by the Pastor to open thier mouths and pray, shout . She asked me, "Is it that God will not hear you the first time? why would a group of people keep repaeting one point for over 10 minutes? Why the shouting? Is God to far away to hear when we talk to him Quietly? Why will a pastor tell you that you have to pray for at least 2 hrs at a streach? Is there a time frame for prayers when the Bible clearly states that we should pray without ceasing, which she translates as talking sliently to God and fellowshiping with him all day, so why would a pastor make you feel like a weak Christain if you cant Blab for 2 hrs?

These were her questions not mine. I realised to that most of the time at prayer meetings after making my point once i am usually lost, i jsut sit back and start thinking about stuff because i feel i have made my point with God, and as a human being it will irritate me when a person keeps repeating a request none stop for 10 minutes so i wonder how God feels when a whole crowd will keep shouting one request for 10 minutes.

Cause when it comes to religion, most Nigerians are freaks. . .

They think the more they're louder and the more they continue to scream God's name. . .

they'll be answered by God and their wishes will be granted.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Saying this prayer and The lords Prayer each day makes my day

1. our prayers largely reflect our level of trust in God. it takes maturity for a person to actually know that u dont have to repeat ur prayers a billion times before they are answered. This should not be confused with praying without ceasing. . .one can pray ceaselessly by continuously giving thanks, committing the present and future to the hands of God and also praying for the will of God be done.

2. The prayer described in the OP is a "commercial prayer" designed by the sons of satan disguised as the sons of God. The whole idea is to make people believe that by praying a POWERFUL prayer u get a response from God. but we know that there is nothing called a powerful prayer . . . .but that we only pray to a powerful God. We also know that though God honours and answers prayers . . the essential ingredients for such answers are faith and holiness. . , . coupled with the will of God.

WHEN YOUR PASSIONATELY SPEAKING TO GOD NOBODY TELLS YOU HOW TO DO IT

Jesus was teaching non- believers how to pray and rebuking the way the hypocrites pray

when he said we shouldnt be repetitive he meant we shouldnt chant like cultists

when ur rebukin demons u dont politely ask them?? when ur prayin for forgiveness u dont softly say it?? with passion comes the attitude and the willingness to shout

a pastor can say whatever the spirit tells him- if your heart is darkened then prayer may help you

prayer helps us as much as it brings us closer to God, there is no timeframe she can translate it how she likes theres no right or wrong way abt it!- its all an order of preference

a pastor can not 'make' you feel weak- if u are not strengthened in prayers you ARE weak! and the pastor will let you no, she may have felt intimidated because of her inability to pray for a long time!- I advise you to seek God because the devil is taking over if u are getting irritated by prayer!kaii!! Only the devil and his minions dont like to hear the name of Jesus- if praying for a long time doesnt suit u then go to a corner and read ur bible- whilst everyone else are praying!

theres a yoruba sayin- orii mi o nii ko adua!

I tell you now theres nothing God loves more than to hear his children- people dont pray cos they have to- they pray to spk to God!

Very good post.

I believe that your cousin's perspective on "praying unceasingly" is a good one.

Also remember that God knows what you are going to pray for even before you ask for it. Furthermore, we are taught not to make vain repetitions in our prayers. Finally, we can see the simplicity of the prayer that the Lord taught us i.e. the Lord's prayer as well as the simplicity of His own prayers as recorded in the Bible. None of these means that we cannot pray intensely of course.
