Fountain experiment is carried out using gas properties and such thing as solubility. Several containers are needed to make it happen. Mostly two gases are used for this experiment. It is the ammonia gas which is soluble in water. However, it can be replaced by hydrogen chloride gas with almost equal properties.

Liquid vapor can also cause the same effect of fountain, it can produce the desirable effect, only the pressure should be made higher than that in the room. It’s an impressive experiment, but it should be carried out with care and by those, who know how to handle chemicals properly.
