What are the causes of climate change?

What do you know about climate changes? What are the causes of climate changes? Can we abrupt global warming?

climate changes

What do you know about climate changes? How can you predict any kind of changes connected with our planet? It seems to be natural changes, but they may have catastrophic consequences. Few thousand years ago, the climate change provided us with an Ice Age. Moreover, almost everything live was destroyed in a previous ice age. The first Ice Age cleared out dinosaurs. Therefore, people are more than concerned about well-behaving of our planet. We should try to save the current climate that allows us to live or we should adapt to changes. Nevertheless, human civilization is not the only reason for climate changes.

Causes of climate change

Causes of climate change

All causes connected to the climate changes can be divided into two groups. The climate changes created by human and natural causes. It can`t be big news for today, that most climate changes were created by human. The natural variability has always been a natural circle of life for our planet. Nevertheless, in the previous few centuries, the concentrate production of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere has reshaped magnitude and climate of our Blue Planet. The United Nations, governments, public organizations, scientists from all the world insist on immediate actions. It`s obvious that we need to preserve our climate at least on today`s level.

Natural Causes

The natural causes of today’s climate destruction are quite variable. It can be solar variations, Earth orbital changes, Ocean current, Volcanic eruptions.

Solar variations

Solar variations

The Sun is our mother star and also a source of our energy. Our climate can`t exist without the Sun. According to scientist monitoring, our Sun outputs the constant energy variation every day. Therefore, even small changes in these outputs can provide drastic climate changes. Some scientists provide information, which at the very beginning of the 20th century it was noticed and increase energy output from the Sun. Therefore, the climate started becoming a little bit warmer from that day. If the Sun is our primal source of energy, it should be assumed that even little changes in sun outputs nay become drastic for the climate. According to a scientist, the Sun outbursts have performed crucial changes in the climate in the story of our planet. Therefore, the decrease of solar energy in 1650 and 1850 managed to create a little ice age. Greenland and Alps were covered in snow and ice for the whole year in 1410 and 1720s.

Nevertheless, current global warming can`t be explained by solar variations only. According to the Sun, monitoring provided from the 1750s. The Sun energy output was managed to be saved on the same level or slightly changed. If the global warming was caused by solar energy, then scientist from all around the world could monitor the changes of the temperature in all layers of the atmosphere in the same time. Still, they observe warmth only in lower layers of atmosphere of our planet, where upper layers of atmosphere remain unchanged. Therefore, one of the suspects for changes can be only greenhouse gasses. If the Sun radiation were only suspect to blame for global warming, then we would have constant changes throughout the whole century and in all layers of the atmosphere.

Earth orbital changes

Earth orbital changes

As it`s known from geography books, the Earth makes the full circle the Sun for 365 days. The Earth is tilted at an angle of 23.5* to its orbital path. If there is even a slight change in the planet`s tilt, then we may have some climate changes. More tilts can only mean hotter summers and colder winters. Less tilt may lead to cooler summers and warmer winters. Therefore, even slight tilt can change our climate. The small orbital changes were the product of our Earth Ice Ages.

Ocean Current

Ocean Current

Our oceans are the major elements of climate changes. Ocean currents are the best providers of heat for our planet. Winds drive ocean currents and draw the picture of our climate. The circulation of cold water from one pole to another may play a significant role in climate balance of our planet. Moreover, warm water circulating the equator also play a significant role in staying our planet heated. Oceans play an important role in a concentration of CO2 in an atmosphere. The changes in the CO2 atmosphere may also effect on CO2 circulation.

Volcanic eruptions

Volcanic eruptions

When any volcano starts erupting it also throws a large volume of SO2 or Sulphur dioxide. A lot of gasses and dust can be thrown into the atmosphere which causes atmospheric cooling. They reflect solar energy back to space. Therefore, it provides more like cooling effect. The CO2 can also be produced by a volcano eruption. However, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is insignificant from volcanos. Still, it means that human production of greenhouse gasses cause much more troubles on climate changes. Moreover, there are not so many active volcanos which can significantly change the climate of our planet.

Human causes

Human causes

The industrial revolution in the 19th century saw a great amount of fossil fuel for industrial activities. It was the age of machine revolution for humanity. Fossil fuel, like oil, natural gas, coal other needed production resources, everything was needed to start our industrial desires running. Moreover, we invented cars; we needed fuel to sustain our households; we created new ways for transportation, which also needed fossil fuel. According to recent statistics, the energy sector is responsible for 75% of emissions of the carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. People are also responsible for 20% of methane emissions.

According to various scientists` researches, carbon dioxide is one of the most notorious greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. It was caused by changes in the land, deforestation, agricultural changes, industrial activities. Methane is another greenhouse gas which is responsible for changes in our atmosphere. As it`s known, methane gas comes from the different animals, like pigs, goats, cows, buffaloes, horses, camels. The Methane gas is also appearing during processes, like coal mining, oil drilling, waste dumps, leaking gas from pipelines. Therefore, there are a lot of gasses that should be dealt with.  In other case, people should be adapted to severe climate changes.

The global warming appears in our century. It can be simply seen through natural phenomenon. We have more catastrophes connected with powers of nature than in a previous century or centuries. The dramatic changes in polar caps can`t be underestimated. Our planet losses its polar caps with great velocity. The ice on Arctic and the Antarctica shelf keeps melting. It means that the global level of oceans keeps rising. It also means that the weather becomes hotter as polar caps serve to us as light-protectors from the Sun. Without them, we don`t have enough protection from the Sun.

The main contributors to climate changes

The main contributors to climate changes

According to the scientists` researches, the main contributors to the changes of atmosphere are:

  • 5% emissions of carbon dioxide from industrial processes
  • 8% methane emissions in agricultural sector
  • 19% carbon emissions from transport
  • 65% comes directly from the generated energy by fuel
  • 50% of carbon emissions comes directly from individuals (air travel, car driving, energy use at home)

Everything in a human domain is products of electricity, like computers, carpets, clothes, furniture. Everything can be transported and moved. Therefore, it generates electricity and electricity cause carbon emissions.

Agricultural contributors

Agricultural contributors

According to statistics, the changes of climate in a period of a quarter of millennia were caused by three main factors, like land use, agriculture and fossil fuel. Agriculture shows a significant effect on climate changes for the last years. It`s caused directly by a production of greenhouse gasses, like nitrous oxide, methane, and carbon dioxide. Agriculture also changes the Earth`s land cover. That means that agriculture can directly change the ability of the land to absorb and reflect the Sun beams. It also includes desertification and deforestation of lands. It should be mentioned, that for agricultural needs we also use fossil fuel, which also includes emissions of carbon dioxide into atmosphere.

It`s important to know, that rainforests play a significant role in our ecosystem. It`s a part of millions of years of evolution of our planet. According to statistics, rainforests absorb up to 20% of CO2 emissions. Therefore, it should be mentioned; that continued deforestation can provide large consequences for our Earth. If we continue to cut down rainforests in the same pace as today, then we should expect 17% more greenhouses gasses in our atmosphere in next years. If we continue to cut trees down faster that they can be replaced, then we may expect dire consequences. The deforestation which means cutting down and burning trees may provide twice more CO2 emissions, then agricultural and industrial sector combined.

According to the researches of ecologists, the climate changes and forests are interlinked. The rainforests form a precious cooling shield around the Earth equator. It means that with more deforestation, we can expect wholes in this shield. The mitigating of climate changes is largely dependent on trapping of carbon dioxide by forests. On the other hand, trees and forests can be major contributors to the greenhouse gasses when they are burned. If rainforests are not harmed, they can ensure the protection of equator. They can compensate fossil fuel emissions into the atmosphere. They can easily enhance ecosystem resilience, health, and stability on condition if they are not harmed.

Forests can be our major grunts in battle with greenhouse gasses. According to statistics, more than 20% of greenhouse gas emissions were provided by deforestation. It`s more than emissions of all cars, planes, ships and trains combined. Carbon Dioxide releasing into atmosphere provokes global warming together with climate changes. Rainforests can easily use this carbon dioxide and convert it to carbon with using photosynthesis. Forests save more than 125% of carbon in wood. Therefore, they can be our planet saviors, if we don`t burn them.

Trees on the planet save more than 20% of carbon in their bodies. It works as a carbon sink. The organic matter of the soil also works as a storage for carbon. It means that dead plants can become great contributors to the saving of our planet climate. The carbon store in the rainforests can be estimated by trillions of tons of deposit. It`s a twice much more than found in the atmosphere. Therefore, if we allow this mush of carbon is floated into the atmosphere, we may have constant hot summer on our equator.

According to statistics, it was monitored around 280ppm. of carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere in the pre-industrial era. Right now we can expect no less, than 375ppm. Of carbon dioxide level in our atmosphere. It means increasing up to 30% since preindustrial era. According to scientist predictions, in the second half of the 21st century, we should expect increasing of carbon dioxide concentration up to 450ppm. It means the increasing of temperature up to 3 degrees Celsius. It also means potential catastrophes, like cyclone intensity, melting of polar caps, changes of current sea level. The last option is super drastic for cities, like Amsterdam, Lagos, New Orleans, Cairo, Venice, Saint Petersburg. The increasing of sea level can cause species migration, which effects biomes of other territories. For a human being, it also means the spread of diseases.

Climate changes in human minds

Climate changes in human minds

According to statistics, common citizens express fewer worries or knowledge about global warming. This phenomenon is founded worldwide. There are even confusions between weather and climate.

According to statistics, Americans know less about climate changes, than their counterparts in other regions of the earth. Accurate and complete understanding of the problem is not a priority for many citizens. The concerns about ecology and awareness of the ecology are dependent from the footprint of a nation. Some studies showed that more aware respondents expressed much fewer concerns about ecology. People usually stop paying attention to climate changes, when they understand, that there is no solution to it. Many people can judge seriously the problems if there are a light and easy solution to it.

Myth of contributing climate changes

Myth of contributing climate changes

There are some myths concerned about climate changes. One of the first myths is that diapers can significantly change the climate. Nevertheless, the overall diapers effect on climate can be estimated non-less than 0.0001%. Paper bags can cause more global changes in climate than plastic. The truth is that they need much more place to be stored and it also means transportation. Diesel trains can provide more pollution, then cars. Burning wood for fuel is more environmentally friendly, then recycling it. Organic dairy cows are worth for climate as they produce much more methane gasses per liter.

End of climate

End of climate

Therefore, what do we know about climate changes? It seems that natural causes for recent climate changes were not enough to make the overall case so drastic. The point is that the main contributor to the global climate changes is a human. Starting from the industrial revolution, we changed the climate so drastically that even illuminated some species on the earth. Only at the end of the 20th century, the humanity began asking questions about problems in climate. We now have to face a new enemy which was raised out of our actions connected with the production. Therefore, we have two options. The first one is to continue working in the same direction and just adapt to changes. The second option is to try to reverse global warming process.
