ECOSYSTEM

(from eco... and the system), a term introduced into science by A. Tansley (1935) to describe any kind of unity (of different size and grade) that includes all the organisms (i.e. the ecological community) in this area (biotope) and interacting with the physical environment so that a flow of energy creates a clearly defined trophic structure, species diversity and the Cycling of matter (i.e. the exchange between the biotic and abiotic environment) within the system. Not any combination of life — environment is the ecosystem: By Yu. The Odum (1975), ecosystems can be identified as only those enterprises of life and the environment, which are characterized by a certain stability and have well-functioning internal circulation of substances. From the quantitative point of view an ecosystem can only be considered as the Union of the community — environment, the volume of internal metabolism which is more external. In the understanding of some foreign and domestic authors, the ecosystem covers a space of any length and dimension, from a drop of pond water, aquarium to the ocean and the entire surface of the planet
