Nevertheless, at the same time, it can be described as a morality school, and Code of Ethics, and methods of cognition. It is a true  "Royal Art". The purpose of the Order of Freemasonry and the main spiritual tasks set for the Brotherhood is formulated as a self-improvement and education of men for their improvement. The duty of the spiritual self-improvement

The duty of the spiritual self-improvement commands Freemasons to be wise, virtuous and fair in the personal life and the world around. The Freemason unwittingly becomes a worthy and attractive example to follow.

Freemasonry is based on a sense of the unity of life and higher moral law. Rules are very strict; you should treat other people exactly in the same why like you would desire the people to treat you, and you should not treat other people in the way you wouldn`t like to be treated. Freemasons should follow these rules in Lodges and amongst other people.

Free Masons consider themselves as brothers and must help each other and support, even if it means to endanger one`s life. They must also assist any person at risk.

Free Masons

They stay in a relentless search for the truth and justice. Freemasons do not recognize any barriers or restrictions. They are totally committed to the respect of the individual and freedom of another person; they shall understand rights for self-opinion and free speech. They always seek to reconcile the opposites and unite people by universal morality and respect for each. They consider their work as their duty and obligation.

Freemasons are obliged to respect the laws and legitimate authority of the country in which they live and freely assemble. They are enlightened and disciplined citizens. Therefore, they are guided by the imperatives of their conscience.

They practice "Royal Art" and respect the traditional rules, manners, and customs of the Order. Free Masons recognize each other by words, signs and light touches with which they traditionally communicate in the Lodge during the initiation ceremony. These words, signs and a light touch, as well as the rites and symbols, are the subject of inviolable secrecy and must not be transferred to anyone who does not have the appropriate status, to know them.

Royal Art

Each Freemason is free to disclose or not to disclose their status, but he/she can`t disclose the status of the Brother. According to Masonic traditions, Freemasons are combined to form an autonomous group, called Lodge.

Every Lodge is operated by decisions taken by the majority of Masters of Freemasonry, properly dressed, but can not depart from the general principles of Freemasonry, and should follow the obedience to the law, to which it belongs.

Lodges are grouped into Grand Lodges, which are independent national structures, the guardians of tradition, carried out exclusively and undivided jurisdiction under the "symbolic Masonry," i.e., over the three symbolic degrees: Apprentice, Journeyman and Master.

 Apprentice, Journeyman and Master

Grand Lodges are managed according to tradition, "Ancient obligations", as well as its own Constitution and laws. They respect the sovereignty and independence of other Masonic bodies and avoid any interference in their internal affairs. They support each other in the necessary relations for the unity of the Universal Order. They enter into agreements with each other and fraternal associations but do not recognize any higher national or international Masonic authority. They independently adjust their legislation and administration, justice and internal discipline.

So, through the respect of the personality of every Masonic national entity, the autonomy of each Lodge and individual freedom of each Brother, it`s retained the versatility of the Order of Freemasonry, which reigns between all Masons in love, peace, and harmony.

The origins of Freemasons

The origins of Freemasons

Freemasons are members of the oldest and most numerous of the existing in the modern world of secular fraternal societies, which is deeply rooted in the past.

The spectrum of opinions on the origin of the Order of Freemasons is extremely broad. Many researchers believe that the history of the old Masonic organizations is closely connected with the general history of craft guilds and brotherhoods in England. Therefore, modern Freemasonry was formed directly from the builders of organizations, like masons and architects, who had many branches throughout Europe of the Middle Ages. Others trace is a direct link between the Order of Freemasons and Order of the Brothers of the Poor Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, went down in history under the name of Order of the Knights - the Knights of the Templar. Some of the Freemasons sincerely believe that the history of the Order began with the arrival of a new era, and the first Freemason was Jesus Christ. Some go even further, referring to the starting Pythagoras, Moses, Abraham, and even mythical Enoch.

However, Masonry surely is related due to the dedicatory Brotherhoods of the distant past. These communities always bore the stamp of the time. They were born and died, changed its organizational structure, tactics. The original goals might have been forgotten or changed. Nevertheless, there were always holders of traditions who could save and create new Lodges. It was the path for those who now call themselves Freemasons. These people have pursued the same goals as self-improvement, the supreme Truth, the supreme justice. That is why Freemasonry has the ancient origin. In fact, as a way of thinking and behavior, as a "state of mind" of Freemasonry, in one form or another, it has always existed.

Freemasonry has the ancient origin

Modern Order of Freemasons organization took shape at the beginning of the XVIII century. On the Christmas Day of St. John the Baptist, June 24, 1717, in a London tavern it was formed the world's first "Grand Lodge", bringing together the four lodges also gathered in local taverns at that time. Thus, it was established a Masonic organization of the new era, marked the beginning of the institution of modern Freemasonry and spread out after a couple of decades all over the European continent. In 1723 it was published "Book of Constitutions" by James Anderson (1680 -1739). The Constitution of the Freemasons contained history, responsibilities, and rules of this ancient and very venerable brotherhood, which was approved and adopted as the basic law of the Masons. The "constitution", among other things, contained the mythical history of Freemasonry from the Garden of Eden to 1717. The purpose of the Union of Freemasons was designated as a desire for moral self-improvement, knowledge of the Truth and love.

Truth and love

Today, the Brotherhood puts its main objective to promote the moral, and spiritual development of man, the development of the human nature in an atmosphere of community and mutual support, the high spiritual qualities are the basis of personal happiness and greatest utility for all. Brotherhood active in education, charity, promotes the high level of education and social responsibility, thus set the highest standards of moral principles.

Skin color, nationality, political or religious beliefs can not be obstacles for membership in the Order, as in the Lodges of the Brotherhood it`s forbidden to discuss topics that can divide people. One of the most surprising aspects of Freemasonry has always been the fact that so many different people from very different walks of life can mingle peacefully together, never discussing politics and engaging in religious debates, in mutual harmony and friendship and treat each other as brothers. Regardless of their position in society, the Masons relate to each other as equals among equals.

Brothers learn to focus on what unites them

In his work in the Lodges, Brothers learn to focus on what unites them. They deep their understanding of morality and found that the range of values that unites them can be widened. This makes the brothers more open and able to learn from each other what is necessary for everyone to promote their way. They can find interest in each other in their differences; they treat each other in tolerance and equality, and they prefer to deal no harm to others in any way.

Freemasons and Church

Masons welcome the principles of conscience, belief, and religious freedom and reject any abuse of these principles. They respect any sincere belief and any honest conviction. They reject any form of discrimination against dissidents.

Laws of the Great Lodges prohibit intervention in any controversial political or religious matters. Freemasonry is recognized officially by all major churches and maintains friendly relations with them. For centuries, Freemasonry was persecuted by the Catholic Church.

Are Masons racists or elitists?

Freemasonry declares the equality of all people regardless of their skin color, religion, national, social origin or social status. Freemasonry does not only declare, but also profess this principle. Among the brothers, there are people of all races and nations.

Elitism is a quite difficult term to define. Freemasonry obligate its members with stringent requirements. These requirements are the faith in God and the fulfillment of His covenant, the highest spiritual and moral development, a constant concern for others, unbending loyalty to the ideals of the family and the state.

Rumors that Masonry is open only for the "upper classes" for businessmen and senior politicians are wrong. The source of these rumors is false beliefs about the purpose of Freemasonry, unfounded suspicions of the Order of the quest for world domination.

Freemasonry does not hide the fact of its existence. Some lodges also did not hide the fact of its existence.  At the same time, it`s deeply personal questions related to the scope of spiritual development which the brothers consider inappropriate to discuss publicly. This position deserves, at least, understanding. According to the traditions, each brother has the right without any approvals to declare his/her affiliation to the Order. However, he/she is not entitled to name other members of the Order without obtaining explicit consent from them.

The Masons in Africa do discuss not so widely and openly their affiliation to the organization, like in the US or Europe. This is a consequence of the negative attitude of the Order for a small, but extremely aggressive part of Africans. In addition to the lists of members of the Order, Masonic rituals are also secret.

Is Freemasonry a religion?

No. Freemasonry requires its members to believe in God. Nevertheless, Freemasonry does not force a person to adhere to a particular faith, it does not impose any private performance of religious rites system and does not even require a specific religious affiliation.

All the rituals of Masonry and its symbolism are the means of spiritual improvement of man, but they avoid the judgments of God. Such beliefs are determined by Brothers religious affiliation or the inner spiritual sense. The Order only contributes to the disclosure of internal religious man, it strengthens faith, making it more deep and sincere. Nevertheless, in the personal religious beliefs, Freemasonry does not add any color.

Do Masons control the world?

According to Freemasons, the authors who provide these statements are in need of immediate assistance of a psychiatrist. Also, some of them may recommend you to read "Foucault's Pendulum" by Umberto Eco. In this book, in particular, it`s showed how people reach such mental disorders. According to the members of the Brotherhood, this thesis is entirely frivolous. Therefore, it is not particularly considered in Lodges. Freemasons also dislike authors, like S. Nilus, Leo Taxil, O. Platonov that Masons worship Satan alleged that he is presented in the form of a goat at each meeting of the lodge and consistently hit with a hammer on the table.
