Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take?

Every now and then, we bash the referees in the EPL and we

are quick to conclude that English referees are crap.

Watching other leagues, shocking decisions are made week in

week out.

Refereeing decisions were one of the highlights of the semi final

UCL matches.

What's gone wrong with the referees?

And where do you think they will end in England? Top 4?

Tell me any top league where the top 4 is unchanged season after season.

Roma is about missing out of a top 4 position. Bremen ended season in 10th position

The EPL's Big Four's has the best teams in Europe, why shouldn't they be the best in England??

Pep was sent to the stands against Osasuna over the weekend.

I thunk only EPL managers complain over referee's decisions.

Dayokanu is a dickhead.

EPL teams dominate the UCL recently because the same teams come every year.

If Pep did not chase the ref around after being denied a penalty and Ballack a red card in the first leg. But chelsea have the right to threaten refs from Anders Frisk to Ovbredo right?

How come you said Italy dominated the 90s . . . did they win every year??

For heaven's sake, we've been represented in every final since 2005

We've won two of the last four, had three teams in semi-finals for two consecutive years, had an all-EPL Final, we even beat out all three Italian reps without any assistance. And you say that's not dominance??

If dominance doesn't mean me predicting a three EPL representatives in the semis next year, then tell me what it is.

If we get the result we wanted, we usually forget the rest of it.

In the first leg when Henry was denied a penalty and Ballack was denied a red card This topic didnt come up right?

Ruudie i one of the few sensible EPL fans left The ref was not biased in giving Abidal a red card but was when denying penalty appeals?

RIDICULOUS!!

EPL can never do that, your dominance was suppose to start in 2005, unfortunately, BARCELONA and AC MILAN broke into the show, so sorry, nothing for you dude, maybe in like 20 year's time, you can talk about the epl dominance, when Madrid did theirs, it was 5 trophies in a role bro, wake up, one club 5 trophies with no interruption, that's what we call DOMINANCE bro

Well. . . . .  you don't have to be a genius to figure out the "genesis" of this thread - UCL semi-final / Barca - Chelsea!

At 1-0, y'all didn't raise so much fuss about penalty appeals. . . . .  at 1-0, y'all didn't remember that a Barca player was wrongly red-carded. . . . .

Chelskites. . . . . . just blame your UCL ouster on DROGBA - the ref did an excellent, made some mistakes but he handled that match well enough!

England refs are poor generally not in league only also in International matches ,cant u guy see wat they do to Nigerian at last edition of under 20 world cup in Canada against

chile, they are poor let accept it

England ref also issue three yellow card for one player at a match, haba haba is on fear, they are not standard in any competition

dayoK,

When I mention bias,it's refering to some statements he has made in the past:e.g. english clubs are ruining football and all that kind of talk.

personally,Guus Hiddink surprised me with his comments after the game.Thought he was above all that.

Eastbay,

Thank you oh!!!

Na only Chelsea dey for Europe wey be say anytime dem lose na to dey threaten referee?

Their players would be chasing refs all over and their coaches making silly comments.

Platini does not like English football, what did he do to stop an all English final last year. Bias? Didnt they award CR7 a penalty under 3 minutes at Nou Camp, yet Barcelona players are not up in arms but when its Chelseas turn, All hell would be let loose

chidichris,

The only reason a conspiracy (whatever that means as regards the chelsea/barca tie) seems believeable is because of platini's apparent bias against anything English.Chelsea themselves didn't cover themselves in any glory judging by their response.i just wonder why the referees always get death threats from Chelsea fans.this is the second time.na only them dey?

ozzyb,

i know u are talking soccer but that thing (dayokanu) claims to live in the usa hence he talks american football which are two different ball games.

please let there be peace. for soccer fans, let us wait and see when next that particular refree will be at the centre of

any pitch to officiate a match.

while the game was on, i wrote it in one of the threads here that that was a consipiracy becaue i know platini for once never liked chelsea and english football.

even barca fans including pique himself later accepted the penalty when he delibrately handled the ball inside the box. what is the difference between the penalty given to juventus against chelsea and the last minute foul on etoo on wednesday?

platini has seriously brought in questions to the game of football.

I don't even know what you guys are talking about. Malouda was choked in the box and brought down. He blew the whistle. It's either one of two things. Blow against Malouda for simulation or for Malouda for penalty. But noo he gave him the foul outside the box. The Pundit on tv analysed it and showed the ref's 4 faults and you here and saying something different because of bias.

The referee was smuggled out of London for his safety and all I'm saying is that to some extent he deserved it.

0

The major mistake made by the ref was the undeserved red card to Abidal and Barca aint whining about it

0
Avatar
Newbie

they refused to take their chances by not scoring, evidence is the sub

0
Avatar
Newbie

well, it depends on what you saw on Wednesday. Did they stop?

0
Avatar
Newbie

What are you talking about? If someone deserves a penalty it should be given. There can be errors due to the pressure but when you make 4 of such errors you deserve to leave London the way he did.

0
Avatar
Newbie

Why did they want to win via penalty even with a man advantage? The referee to me performed above average in that Chelsea - Barcelona game. He had split seconds to take decisions in a very charged atmosphere and its not like he even overruled his linesmen who also did not see all those wayo penalties.

Chelsea should be banned from European football.

Their fans have been sending death threats to the Ovredo guy again the same way they did with Anders Frisk in 2005.

Why do we have bitches all over the place crying and whining like IDIOTS

The referee for France 1998 finals between France and Brazil was from Morroco

The ref for US 1994 finals was from Hungary

so those whining about using a Norwegian as a ref are simply ignorants and sapheads

in football, a team not making use of their chances has never been an excuse. it is ok if we say there was no conspiracy. it is equally ok if we say uefa had no hand in it but let us see when next that particular refree will be on stage again for uefa. the did has been done. i must confess here that i am yet to recover from the shock of that game. bayern was very clever in their games until they met barca. barca felt the heat in the two games against chelsea against the wishes of 90% of football fans all over the world. football is not all about what we think. my prayers is that i lost interest in this game as i have not had contact with my sports chanels since wenesday.

platini in all his comments since inception never liked chelsea.

all the same, the first time i know about norwagians in sports was when morgan fraudulently sold mikel to man u and earned himself a cool jail term and the second time is a norwagian refree in a semi final game between chelsea and barca.

if this is how platini is going to handle the affairs of uefa, i am sorry the game is going down as i have never seen such an officiating in the history of football even in our nigerian league that is not possible.

lol, it was so sweet seeing how chelsea fans cried, all the agberos mellow and couldnt even talk, even a 9 years old boy could beat a full flesh agbero that yesterday, they were SOOOOOSO inferior after the match.

One cannot rule out human nature.

Refs may have inner admiration or dislike for a team.

Imagine assigning a ref to a team he dislikes, human nature may distort professionalism.

Again, if a team is superb and takes its chances, there is little the ref can do to cheat them out.

0
Avatar

I think the game is getting too big and too serious to allow

part time referees to handle them alone.

Assistant referees should get more involved with the use of

technology.

cant remember the game this season where Barca almost lost a game and the REF added more than 5 mins and also gave a penalty to Barca in the added minutes.

the stadium nearly went up in flames in the ensuing fiasco!

such things dont happen in the epl and you hear undiluted bollocks from the Chief resident ninnies as to how the epl REFs are shitty everyday.

If it was Rob Syles that committed the blunders yesterday, Hell would have been brought down

0
Avatar

You're spot on.

The noise is usually more about English refs. Sauron has a point about the coverage

and scrutiny of the EPL being the reason.

There has to be a solution to this.

0
Avatar

If you want to see terrible referees, come to La Liga,  that is their headquarters.

I think it is part and parcel of the game,  It is never ALWAYS in favour of one team over another. They have a way of leveling out and overall everyone "benefits" and "suffers" from it. Somtimes it is in your favour and other times not. Chelsea can not honestly claim they have never won a game because of bad ref decisions that favoured them. Same as any other team

0

Its not about the Chelsea Barca match and who took his chances or

not.

It's about shocking decisions we see week in week out. What is the

way out?

Videos? More assistants?

Thats what this topic is all about.

im not contesting why Chelsea lost.

We are discussing if the REF was bad with his officiating

Nobody is asking if the officiating cost them the game.

simple thing

was that a good officiating? Yes or NO

Man UTD won the game but we all the know REF made bad calls when he sent off Fletcher and when he gave a freekick that led to the goal.

We are not talking about the outcome of the matches but some of the actions taken by the REFs

Despicable is the word

0
Avatar
Newbie

The way TKB behaves like an illiterate is another thing

Why are Man Utd players not in protest after Fletchers red card? If that decision had won Arsenal the game it would have been a point for discussion. Chelsea felt aggrieved and needed to complain because they lost

0

Drogba should be ashamed of himself, with all the clear chances he threw away, disgracing africa with that ungodly manner, he should have let guss do the ranting, he wasn't even on the pitch, why didn't the english players on the field do the ranting??

now he has spoilt his name the more on european scene, remember manu chelsea last year?

that ref was just too frightened to blow well lol

0
Avatar
Newbie

Refereeing;poor.Agreed.

But Chelsea failed to take advantage of:

a)An extra man advantage for 25 good minutes.

b)a weak Barca defence.

That negative approach overall in 180 minutes cost Chelsea, and it's that simple.

0

im lost. Is this what the OP asked?

Bad decisions on the REFs part is the topic of convo.

No one is talking about Chelsea or Barca.

read b4 you post

@Topic

The 2 semis were bedevilled by very poor officiating and it goes beyond errors.

Some european REFs are as worse as the heavily criticisized English REFs

How do you explain the RED to Fletcher? The free kick to CR7 that led to the goal, The countless penalties that were overlooked by the REF against Chelsea and also why did the RED give a RED to Abidal.

If those are not poor officiating, then somebody needs his brain checked.

I guess those will pass as poor officiating when the English people are in charge but will be called human errors when thier european counterparts are blowing the whistle.

Some brains need surgery!!

they should be banned for life but again, teams should learn to finish off opponents with every opportunity they have. When they don't refs will always be blamed. They suck anyway.

0
Avatar

I think the FA should have red and yellow card for referees should they begin to mess up a match.

This is also a good case for the introduction of the video technology!!

What are your comments about Drogba's attitude.I for one didnt like it.He was so indisciplined.

0

Just like Jose Mourinho and Chelsea were moaning that Anders Frisk spoke to the ref in 2005.

Cant English sides but moan about officiating?

0
Avatar

Poor refereeing even out in a game an undeserved red card and no one is complaining why are EPL teams so classless

The same way Arsenal was complaining that Lehmanns sending off was responsible for losing in Paris.

Thiery had 2 good chances to bury the game at Parc de prince and later was complaining about ref.

Wenger was complaining Etoo goal was laid off by Larson in an offside position

Henry complained he was fouled by Barcas players

Fans complained that the red card to Lehmann made them lose.

Chelsea complaining about Handballs.

Why didnt Chelsea players complain when Abidal was sent off and Chiellini was sent off?

Chelsea should blame themselves for not wrapping the game up when they had presentable chances

SHAMELESS PEOPLE

Victory to the ANGLOPHOBES!!!!!!

Eva since Collina retired, refereeing in European competions hv gone 4rm bad 2worse. Collina inspired referees 2make faultless decisions. 2days matches r won nd lost 2bad decisions. I tink d referee world nid anoda Collina 4inspiration. Speaking of Collina, whr is HE?

Em referees are human beings prone to human error.

English referees get criticised more because more people watch the EPL than other European leagues.

If a referee makes a wrong decision in a game involving Sunderland and Hull(we are dead cert to know about it).

If another referee makes a worse decision in a game involving Osasuna and Numancia. . . .Who cares??
